Title: Cold sores on mouth, tongue and gums

Has anyone developed cold sores on the surgery side a week after translab surgery and if so what can you use to treat them?

YES. I had an entire mouth of cold sores and they hurt so much. If anyone is preparing for surgery and has ever had a cold sore, i suggest they have this discussion in advance with their surgeons.

I just used over the counter medicines, I think i was too tired to really push it, but in retrospect I should have.

Did yours clear up?

My first signs of AN were tongue pain and sores on my lips. Since, I occasionally get tiny painful bumps? on my tongue. I am now very careful not to get too much sun on my face. Alot of sun has always given me trouble with oral herpes. I use sunblock on my lips all day long in the summer. I discussed this with my family doctor who is  an infectious disease specialist. I got a herpes culture when the symptoms returned on my tongue-nothing grew. Actually, if someone has oral herpes- and is planning to have open surgery-taking an antiviral might be recommended (to reduce the chance of facial paralysis). With radio-surgery an antiviral might not be indicated.
