Title: Best Dr.s in Alabama and Mississippi areas?
Post by: musicmaker on March 04, 2019, 08:35:47 am
I am looking for an AN Dr. closer to my home for a 2nd opinion. I live in west central Alabama, (looking in the Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Mobile Alabama or Meridian, Jackson Mississippi areas.)

I go to Vanderbilt and have since it was discovered. They have a fantastic unit over there and currently follow around 300 patients with AN's. My experience there has always been first class and it's only 4 hrs from my home in central Alabama. I see Dr Rivas there.

Hi musicmaker,
I used UAB in 2011. Diagnosed in Mobile in 2008. Not really any good doctors down there unfortunately. I used Dr Ben McGrew at UAB for initial and follow up visits and Dr Winfield Fisher was the surgeon. They are team that do the surgery. Very qualified and good. I believe you would be happy there for second opinion.

I agree also that Vanderbilt is excellent if you want to travel a little further. They have excellent doctors and brain tumor center.
Not sure about MS doctors,,,
If you are considering radiation, we do have excellent doctors in Mobile at the Mitchell Cancer Center who use the Cyberknife treatment. Our support group actually toured that facility last year. Very impressive!

On that note,, just got word the support group is having a  meeting Saturday, March 30 in Mobile at 11:30-1:30. It would be great if you could attend that and get some of your questions answered! It is a wonderful resource when you are first diagnosed,,,
Good luck,, hope to meet you,,
Jane
