Title: Tinnitus in healthy ear?
Post by: RickyV on August 31, 2018, 04:55:55 am
Hi all.
I was diagnosed with a neuroma in my right ear last October after I suffered total hearing loss on that side. Since then I've learned to live with being deaf on one side, as well as occasional ringing, but lately I've started noticing the same sense of "fullness" in my left, healthy ear, and occasional ringing. I'm getting another MRI in November to continue monitoring my neuroma as it was quite small when discovered. My question is, is it common to feel occasional symptoms in the good ear, or is this something I should alert my doctors to? Thanks for your advice, folks.

I have tinnitus in both ears with the left side being a little worse as it's the AN side. My symptoms started with a sudden hearing loss but hearing came back after 12 hours and thats when tinnitus came roaring in. I had another SHL a year later and it happened several times over the course of a month. Amazingly my tinnitus got a little better. I also experienced fullness in both ears along with hyperacusis which tapered off after a month. I also have a small AN at 3mm.

Hi RickyV and bobster755 and welcome to this forum .....

For what it's worth:  I never had any tinnitus until after my first AN surgery, when it developed in my almost deaf ear (at the time).  About a year/year and a half later, I began noticing tinnitus in my "good" (completely normal hearing) ear.  Now I have roaring tinnitus in both ears (one completely deaf and one completely normal hearing), but no evidence of any tumor on my good side (most recent MRI was in January, 2018).

Most of the time during my active waking hours, I can divert my attention away from it.  The more I focus on it the louder it gets.  I have found that noisy environments will crank it up, as will too much caffeine, increased stress, and/or not enough sleep.

Best wishes.
