Title: BAHA 5 trial experience
Post by: Bellium on May 03, 2016, 05:53:16 am
So yesterday was my first day back to work post op! Today is 15 weeks out. As some of you know, I have had a BAHA 5 demo headband since Friday to try the BAHA out in real circumstances and situations. So my BAHA trial came with me today. I know a lot of you had asked for an update, so here's my experience with it: When I put it on I don't notice an immediate difference, but when I take it off after wearing it for a while, THEN I notice the difference. The difference for me is subtle, but significant enough where I don't have to ask people to repeat themselves as much and I am hearing things on my left that I was missing out on. Since my surgery, the area around my incision and my ear feel 'dead' because of lack of sensory input (SSD and decreased sensation around the incision). When I'm wearing the BAHA I feel like I have some increased sensory input. I feel slightly less wonky as well - likely because of the increased sensory input. I have worn the BAHA headband to the supermarket, Buy Buy Baby, the park, out for a walk, and many hours at home in my house with just my husband and also with 3 guests, to work in a hospital setting. Nothing will be real hearing and I know that, but I am enjoying the subtle yet significant difference the BAHA demo headband has made so far.

Glad you liked the BAHA5.  I upgraded in April 2015 and I love it.  In the past I've had a Divino, then a BP100.

Love my BAHA; wouldn't want to live without it; it makes a huge difference in my life.

Best,

Jan

I appreciate the feedback. I'm seven months post surgery and just starting to consider my options. I wonder how similar the headband is to the real thing?

Similar, but not the same.

The "real" thing is much better.

Go for it!
