Title: Emergency Surgery 12/16/15
Post by: SlaJ83 on December 12, 2015, 12:06:55 pm
Hi everyone! I hope I'm posting this in the right place.

A quick background of what is going on with me. I have had problems hearing in my right ear for at least 10 years now. My daughter was born in August and we met our deductible. So I decided it was time to get my problem checked out. I went to an audiologist first at the beginning of November. The audiologist didn't like my test results so he referred me to an ENT. The ENT ordered an MRI and I had it on Saturday, November 28. I got the results on Tuesday, Dec. 1. I have a 3.5 cm acoustic neuroma.

I went to see Dr. Ravi Samy at University of Cincinnati Neuroscience yesterday, Dec. 11. He stated that I have a "ticking time bomb" that needed to be dealt with sooner rather than later. I am now scheduled for surgery on Wednesday, Dec. 16. I have already done my pre-op evaluation with the anesthesiologist and I meet with the neurologist, Dr. Mario Zuccarello, on Monday who will be working with Dr. Samy on my surgery.

I'm not sure what to think of all this as it is happening so fast. Does anyone have any experience with Dr. Samy or Dr. Zuccarello? I know that getting other opinions is important but the urgency scares me. Another thing that has scared me is that over the past month, whenever I cough or sneeze or laugh hard, I get these intense headaches that last for about 30 seconds. They feel like what I imagine having an aneurism feels like. I'm scared of not being around for my wife and daughter.
