Title: Does anyone who does not have tinnitus want to hear it?
Post by: Obita on October 21, 2006, 06:51:29 pm
Now this is interesting.  For our loved ones and friends who can't imagine what tinnitus is like, try this:

HI Kathy,
WOW, that's really interesting. I'm playing it for my family, maybe it will give them a clue.
Although none of the sounds were like mine. I have what sounds like a 100's of high pitched, all different frequencies, ringing going on all at the same time, all the time. And it varries in intensity. Wish this had a sound like mine for my family to hear.
Thanks for sharing this.

My Tumor was removed in partial surgeries.  I used to have it on occasion mainly between surgeries.  I had something in bed recently like a loud tone in my ear...I dunno what the hell that was.  But for the most part, Tinnitus does not bother me really...I bet its horrible.  How often is it?  Is it all the time?  Do you get used to it?

Obita:  that was interesting.   My tinnitus seems to be what Patti experiences, more high pitched.    At the end of the tinnitus track it sounded like someone was farting(or just my sick mind).  Anyway, really neat.  Thanks Obita

I only have tinnitus infrequently, but when I do, it's most like the first sound, like the sound of a fan, or like that the sound you get when you put a seashell to your ear. One thing I can no longer stand, though, is to have a car window open while it is moving. For some reason, it seems to trigger the tinnitus.

Nancyann,

My kids were listening to it with me, they thought it sounded like various bodily sounds also :D.

dfcman,  mine is constant, all the time, always very loud, but sometimes extreemly loud. I can't wait to fall asleep because sleep is the only time I am not aware of it. But if I wake to use the restroom, or just turn over, that's it, I'm up for at least 2 hours trying to fall back asleep. The incessant noise keeps me awake. If you every want to know what theyre peddling on late night infomercials, just ask me. I've seen them all between 2-5am.  Sometimes I think I am going to loose my mind due to the noise.

So there ya go, that's how it sounds for me..   And my mother said I was never musically inclined.  LOL

Wow, Kathy, that's amazing...finally!!!  Something to play for them.  Mine is the first one maybe 1/2 an octive higher.  It's constant, very loud, but I've had it since I can remember, so I can usually tune it out.  Sometimes, it's like the one that sounds like it's in a bottle...that usually only lasts for a few seconds.  When I'm really exhaused, it gets really loud.  It's screaming right now.  Thanks for the find!!!

Mine is more of lower pitch and has a rushing sound to it. Kind of like when you passed by a jack hammer, the sound both of  your ears make when subjected to Loud Obnoxious nosies Like Heavy metal!!! :o OK I'm Old school. now Steppenwolf is music to my ears.

Chris, I am very glad you don't have that bothersome, annoying, distracting, irritating tinnitus.  That is part of my "barganing" prayer.  "Please God, I will be more than happy to be totally deaf in one ear, if the tinnitus will just go away."  I hope you never develop it.  In my opinion, from what I've read, once it is there, it's very likely to never go away.

I have a fan in my bedroom to give me some "white noise" to help with the sleep. It does help. I have tinnitus constantly, Chris, but I know it's not as bad as it could be.  My computer threw  a rod or something and I don't have sound anymore, so I can't hear that website that you posted.  Darn.  I have a hissing/buzzing sort of sound.  Often in the car, with the car noise, I'll get secondary sounds...like off key plucks on a guitar string. It plays a little tune with 4 or 5 different notes, then starts over again.  Sometimes I get that when I'm in the bathroom with the fan on.  Sometimes I notice it at night with the fan in my room. Just like everyone else, it intensifies with too much caffiene, or in noisy/echoy rooms.  It's no fun. It's hard to ignore. It's tiring.  I like staying in the shower for a long time, because it sort of gets lost in the water sounds and makes me feel somewhat normal for 10 minutes.

Treasure your quiet moments, Chris.  It's a real blessing.

The tinnitus intensifies. Isn't that what you had mentioned previously? I was only saying that I get the same effect when I shift my eyes.
I first heard about it from Joef. I think many of us can attest to the same thing.

My tinitus sounds like one of those relaxation tapes titled "Sounds of the Rainforest." The little coquis from St. John have taken up residence inside my head. I sleep with an overhead fan and a nightstand fan beside my head. Does double duty in case Dr. Love decides to cut one! (Old people do that, Taylor. "EEEEEWWWWW," says Taylor.) Now it really sounds like St John with the fans going. I just try to drown it out with music, fans and TV. I have a really hard time concentrating if I'm reading a book because I need quiet for that.  So I've given up literature in favor of cinema!!

I thought my high pitched bell ringers were bad, but I'll take them anyday over the Jackhammers and machine guns. Geez, I couldn't imagine listening to that 24/7.

Thanks Kathy!
