Title: Vestibular Therapy / Physical Therapy
Post by: MomCK on September 25, 2015, 06:56:18 pm
My mom had retrosig surgery yesterday.  She is doing great.  She has no pain, no dizziness, and has been doing a little walking to the bathroom and around the hospital (with the assistance of her nurse and her walker).

She will probably be released from the hospital on Sunday.  We were told that she would be released to a skilled nursing facility for physical therapy.  I read on a post that she should have a vestibular therapist, not a PT.  Any suggestions for a good nursing facility for someone on Medi-care in the northern suburbs of Chicago?  A good vestibular therapist in the area or how to find one?  Any info on vestibular therapy?

Dr. Kazan & Dr. Battista were wonderful.  The nursing staff at Adventist were knockout too.  Mom's surgery went as planned.  The doctors drained her cyst (around the tumor) and removed part of the tumor.  We are thankful for her great experience so far.

My vestibular therapist in Phoenix was a physical therapist so I don't think avoiding a physical therapist is appropriate, just ask questions to determine the physical therapist's experience and training in vestibular therapy.

Check out the following search results for guides to what questions to ask:

Thanks.  My mom ended up going to a skilled nursing facility for 3 weeks.  She saw a physical therapist, occupational therapist, and speech therapist while at the facility.  After her release, she's been seeing a vestibular therapist.  She is in the process of scheduling the Gamma Knife procedure.
