Title: Possible re growth after radiation
Post by: Sueh on August 09, 2015, 03:24:50 pm
I am looking for information on surgeons who have experience doing surgery on previously radiated tumors. Information from anyone who has experienced re-growth would be appreciated.

Hi Sueh and welcome to this forum .....

Although I did not have regrowth from a radiated tumor, I did experience regrowth from surgery.  I decided since regrowth is very uncommon, I would seek out the best care I could find.  I went to Drs. Friedman and Schwartz at House Ear Clinic in LA for my second surgery, which was four years ago.  So far no further regrowth so I am a happy camper!

Dr. Rick Friedman (neuro-otolaryngologist) is now at USC/Keck Med Center and Dr. Marc Schwartz (neurosurgeon) is still at House.  Both of them are excellent, highly experienced AN surgeons.

Thanks Clarice. I'm trying to do research now so I can be ready if I do need surgery. And I know previously radiated tumors are "different". I would prefer a surgeon who had done one before. Next MRI is in October.

I just read in the most recent newsletter that Dr Schwartz has done over 2000 ANs.  That's probably a good place to start as any.

I read the same article on the latest ANA newsletter.

Very informative.
