Title: Pre-surgery preparations?
Post by: GaryWNT on July 26, 2015, 06:15:47 pm
I am wondering if anyone can provide information on what sort of pre-surgery preparations would be required if one is having retrosigmoid/sub-occipital surgery.
Thanks,
Gary

Your surgeon will probably give you a list prior to the appointed date.

Hi GaryWNT .....

I do not think the approach (retro-sig, translab, etc.) makes any difference.  In the US, I suspect for liability reasons, many doctors will require a chest x-ray, CBC blood work, and perhaps an EKG within a month of surgery.  Beyond that, it depends upon the surgeon's pre-op protocol.  I had to wash my entire body with Phisohex the first time ..... second time only needed to shampoo my head with an antibacterial shampoo they gave me ..... and, of course, nothing by mouth 12 hours before surgery.

Hope that helps.  Thoughts and prayers.
