Title: Symptoms on opposite side of tumor with tumor side asymptomatic?
Post by: ANAuD on June 30, 2015, 08:32:42 am
Hi everyone, I was diagnosed 3 days ago with a left AN measuring 0.8(AP)x1.5(TV)x0.6(SI). However, the reason I had the MRI done was because I have a right sided vestibular hypofunction that has become more pronounced (I am an audiologist who works closely with a neurotologist and had a colleague do a VNG because I was feeling dizzy/lightheaded). My hearing is almost completely normal, but have a slight high frequency loss in the right ear. I have intermittent right sided tinnitus and facial numbness as well. I've seen the MRI scan and know that the tumor is definitely on the left side and that it wasn't just a typo on the radiology report. At this point, I'm definitely leaning toward watching and waiting, especially since the tumor is on my "good side." Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi ANAud,

I haven't experienced exactly what you are describing, but I can tell you that my AN is on my right side. The hearing on my left side is not perfect, I have lost some hearing due to age (high frequency sounds) in that ear.  I wear a Phonak BiCros which I absolutely love.  When the barometric pressure changes I can occasionally experience pressure inside my head.  For the past few weeks we've had some really nasty weather.  I've had a fairly constant pressure in my head making BOTH ears feel full and I find my hearing seems worse than normal in BOTH ears.  No idea why my good ear is feeling the same kind of pressure that my AN ear is feeling, but if I don't feel an improvement when the weather clears, I'll be looking into this further.

Hi ANAuD,

Is your facial numbness on the AN side?

No, the facial numbness is actually on the opposite side! I'm thinking it's totally unrelated and maybe related to the TMJ I have on that side...
