Title: cold weather is making the facial paralysis worse!
Post by: amymeri on October 14, 2006, 07:29:24 pm
 >:(I notice that this cold weather is making my facial hypertonus worse and I can hardly move my mouth!!  Its awful.  This is just the beginning...temps were only in the 40s.  I wonder what happens when it gets to freezing around here.

I thiink I will have to start using those baclavas and scarves.

I don't have the paralysis, but I have facial numbness and my nose gets really cold. I told my husband I might have to buy one of those head scarves things that cover your whole face with the eye holes...like bank robbers wear.   :o

This will be my second winter with facial paralysis and numbness.  I got a good reminder of what it's like again this morning.  I was at my son's cross country meet doing the timing.  I was out in the cold (mid to upper 30s) and wind for over three hours.  I noticed my face getting a bit more difficult to move as the morning went on.  Now that I'm warmed up again it is good.  Well, as good as it gets these days.  I have to pay close attention to the good side of my face to know when to cover the bad side.  I did well last winter.  No problems.  I have noticed that the cold tends to stress my balance a bit.  It's easier to balance when my muscles are relaxed.  Hoping it warms up again before winter really sets in.

Jean, my brother related two incidences of Bells Palsy in his face when driving the Pennsyvania turnpike in winter weather.  He is not an AN patient.  His drooped face recovered after several weeks each time.  This reminds me of your complaint about the facial nerve problems in the cold.
