Title: Facial Paralysis 5 years post op
Post by: lovelace on April 08, 2014, 07:53:06 am
Hi. I am trying to find someone in Atlanta, GA that may be able to help me regain my smile from my surgery 5 years ago. It seems to be getting progressively worse and though I've tried to make the best out of my new" face-uation", I'm still not comfortable with my face.  I'll never give up on my smile....has anyone found acupuncture to work? Anyone had cosmetic surgery? I've waited a long time to inquire (maybe I did give up) but at 45 (still not married) I want to do all I can to regain "my normalcy". Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can't give you personal testimony as my facial nerve came back enough that, although i definitely see the difference, people who met me after my AN surgery don't always know my face is not "normal"  (which really bugs me because i know how i am "supposed" to look).  however, my surgeon recently referred me to an ENT plastic surgeon.  i am getting botox from that doc, but we have talked about reanimation surgeries that are being done now.  he uses a nerve from the foot to reanimate and i have read and seen some other successful techniques.  please keep searching for a good doc...you are definitely near some major medical centers that should be able to help you.

Sorry, not checking this part of the site often.  Dr. Sidle, at Northwestern in Chicago.

lovelace: get to see a plastic surgeon who specialises in facial reanimation.....lots can be done, and I should know! I've had lots done. You might not get back to looking exactly like you did but you can get some improvement I'm sure.
