You might think it a little odd to bring up the topic of Heart Disease on an Acoustic Neuroma website but brain tumors are not the only catastrophic medical conditions that affect our medical world.
So, as kind of a public service, I present this simple calculator that predicts the 10 year risk for a first atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) event:

Based on my most recent parameters my risk is 16% (down from 24% last year when my cholesterol and BP was a lot higher than it is now.
I invite you all to share your results so we can perhaps get into some discussion of what to do about our potential risk factor.
We may be stuck with the consequences of our Acoustic Neuroma but let's try not to add heart disease into the mix.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. My result is 0.4%, based in large part on a freakishly high HDL, I'm sure. My dad has the same thing -- HDL runs around 100.
Which makes me wonder about a possible genetic component to AN. My dad's in good health, but my mother died of a rare cancer called multiple myeloma, which affects about one in 30,000 people. So she had a rare cancer, I had a rare brain tumor, and my dad and I both have abnormally high HDL. What are the odds? I think that's what the Yale Study hopes to find out.
Sorry for jumping around here. Awaiting results of neuro-psychological testing done last week. Trying to keep that BP down and not worry too much. :)
