Title: Our staunchest supporters during this AN journey...
Post by: ppearl214 on September 15, 2006, 04:53:37 pm
...who provide us with the biggest amount of unconditional love during this very trying time in our lives.... our pets.... so, here is my staunchest supporter, yes, Beanie, the "toot" queen, in her wedding dress at her wedding to Elvis, the "younger" pug.

and yes, she will be wearing this during Cheeky Bloke's and my speshal day!  She is the true bride.. he's only marrying me to get to her.

Who are your staunchest supporters during your AN journey (besides all of us here)?

Phyll,
My girls went wild over this darling little bride.
We have an all white American Eskimo/golden retreiver mix little girls who has a friend who lives across the street. He is all balck with a white patch on his chest. My girls decided they needed to get married and that they wouldn't need a wedding dress or tux cuz they are already wearing them.  My alaskan malimute of 16 years had to be put down 2 weeks after my AN surgery. Should have been done sooner but I just couldn't deal with that at that time. Our new little girl has been by my side through much of this.  What a cutie the "tootie" queen is.

This is Thing 1. (The little guy, the big one is me!) He was born in Atlanta Georgia, the night before my surgery in Los Angeles.  He really gave me a reason to wake up!  I can track my progress as he and the "new me" are the same age.  He looooooves Pirates and he is the only one in the family who I can get to play Pirates with me besides you guys!!!

PS he looooves choccie, too! Notice the color of the cake!

Just wait Deb,  when they hit about 11-12 yrs old, they no longer will be referred to as Thing 1@2, it'll be Teror 1@2. Of course, I have girls, it' probably worse as girls approach teenhood. I currently have one Tween (inbetween kid & teen, almost a teen, not quite there yet, but practicing real hared at the attitude)  enjoy them while they are little things, granny priate

But aside from the norm of kidhood. They are the greatest. and great supporters when you need them. But then, dogs don't talk back, something to be said for that.

Here is a picture of my baby, his name is Cosmo. He never left my side during my recovery and would always try to lick the AN side of my head, he knew his momma had an ouchie.

And he is a pirate pup ;D

I don't know how to post a pic but we got Comet 6 months after my surgery. He helped me in my recovery quite a bit. Someone new who needed me! (As if having 3 kids wasn't enough?! ;) )

Comet is a golden retriever baby. He's scared of everything and I love him to death. He has been a great little brother to our now 12 yo golden retriever Tucker.

Ok, so I really wanted to post a pic of my pup here but I have no clue!  Anyway, she's a golden retriever, presently 7 mos (alot older than in the pic by my name) and she is currently my best buddy!  My old best bud was another golden who we had to have put down earlier this year.  I miss her dearly, she was the best dog I'd ever had, but Zoey is helping to fill the void.  If I can figure out the pic thing, I have tons of pics including one of her "surfing" in the pool!

Here are my two faithful.

The white one is Pickie and the other is Abbey. Pickie is a real "boy" and tries to get his way but Abbey seems to have a headache all the time!

They are in their favourite spot - on the spare bed - guess who gets the "doghouse"!

This is my wonderful Black Lab, Ursa:

I had to put her to sleep yesterday and I am totally grief-stricken. She was diagnosed with a spinal tumor which finally pressed on a nerve and caused her incredible pain. I think she was in pain for a long time, but never let on.
She was my best friend an absolutely wonderful dog--so smart and loving and playful.  She took such care of me when I had my brainwreck headaches--laid in the bed with me with her head on my waist or feet when I was curled up in fetal position and crying. She slept in the bed with me and Dr Love most of the time, especially in the winter. She loved living on the river and loved to swim and got to do it almost every day.

She was incredible with the grandbabies--even when they were infants, she like to curl up next to them.  Thing 1's favorite thing was to give her a full body huggle and just lay on top of her with his arms around her neck. I taught him how to roll her a tennis ball and watch her kick it back.  Thing 2 just squeals with delight and reaches for her when she's around him.

She has this game she plays all by herself called "Puppy Soccer" where she has two tennis balls, one in the mouth, and the other she kicks around the house until it rolls under a piece of furniture, then she comes up to one of us and just looks at us with big Lab Eyes until we get the retrieval stick and get it out.  There must be two dozen tennis balls under different pieces of furniture in our house. I think I'll just leave them there for a while.

Anyway, thanks for reading this--I may be a little quiet on the forum for a while until I do a little healing over this--it was quite unexpected and has thrown me for quite a loop.

I know Ursa is in puppy heaven right now chasing bunnies and kicking around a tennis ball.

Deb,
My heart breaks for you! People that don't have pets just do not understand how attached you can become to them. It is just like losing a member of your immediate family. We lost our Golden very suddenly last year and it just has never been the same for any of us. Take all the time you need and just know that your AN family is here thinking of you!

Anyone who loses their animal has my "deepest" sympathy.  There is a *quiet private language* and bond that can't be put into words.

The love in an animal leaves me at a loss for words.

Capt Deb,

I am so sorry to hear about Ursa.  Many years ago, we lost our first family pet, a golden retriever, called Tomasina.  She was the sweetest companion and we felt so bad when we had to put her to sleep.  We could not tell her how we felt and I still remember the last moment with her to this day.  Her eyes opened up one last time to look at me.  I just remember it was so painful.  I am about to cry now even so many years later just the thought of her  :'(.

Take your time to heal.  Pets are the best family members whom you never fight with except share the joyest moments.

Ursa is in doggie heaven now with Tommy and all others we miss.  Picture them hoping up and down and rough housing all over the Pearly Gate!!

Our deepest condelences!!

I am also so very sorry for the loss of Cap't. Deb's beloved pet. Been there and done that too many times.  No pets for us for a while, if ever again.  Awfully hard on the heart.  :'(

Anyone who loves dogs, or any animal, or anyone who just loves to read...I highly recommend reading the book "Marley and Me" by John Grogan.  I just read it last week. It's been on the top 10 lists in non-fiction for a long time.  It is really a great book and absolutely hilarious and all you dog owners will certainly identify with John and his wife as they deal with a big, loveable, yellow Lab pup and the mayhem that ensues --- for the next 13 years.

Hi Palace,

Beautiful golden retrievers (and you too)!!  Aren't they sweet dogs with such lovely personality?  It's great to finally see your picture.  Thanks Kathy for posting it!

Suzie (our ragdoll cat) had such a ball with Christmas, literally.  Alex (my soon-to-be 9 year old) made a ball with string and left all the wrappings on the floor.  She was in heaven jumping into the papers, playing around with the string ball, hiding in boxes and most of all, she loved boxing the little twist ties and lego pieces around on the floor!  It was more fun watching her than anything else  :D.

My little doggie got a great gift from her grandma, it's one of the AKC stuffed geese that doesn't just squeak, it quacks....a very strange sound to hear in the middle of the night, but she loves it!!!!  carries it around everywhere making it quack.  I need to get the pictures up of Genny opening her present from Auntie Deb!!!  Hopefully I can get to that tonight!

dying to see the pics! :)

Beanie all mad at me for leaving her for a week. Back in office today so we can have mother/daughter time... she is fast asleep in her portable fleece bed, snoring away at base of my desk.  But, she did manage to give me snuggles last night... I needed them.

happy holidays to all of our staunchest supporters! :)

May Cheeky Bloke be giving you those snuggles himself FULL TIME very soon, with Beanie in the middle of course.

Until then, hugs from all of us.......whenever you need them.

Our furrrrrr-friends are just "the best!"  We need to keep them safe on New Year's Eve with all that noise at midnight.

What a beautiful collection of animals on this forum.

Keep those supporters up on the forum.  It is refreshing!

Thanks all of you for posting your animal supporters................spend time with them as, their lives are too short...........extend their lives by making more time for them.   ;)

"HA HA HA!"

Is that *fabulous* or what?  Thax for posting that one!  We need to try and smile.  My ear is in "killer-pain" this morning and I had that migraine; 19 migraines out of 25 days!  (did 100 mg of Imitrex)

That was fun to see this picture up after I got rid of the migraine.  I suppose the "killer ear isn't much next to that migraine."

Keep those "supporters" a comin' and have some fun with your fur-friends.

How I started my new year with my staunchest supporter (yes, Queenie Beanie, the "toot" Queen).

Tuesday, Jan 2.
I leave for office in the morning, with Beanie laying in the sun on the foot of my bed
Lunchtime, I head home as always to walk her and play for my lunch hour.
I walk into the back door and am usually greeted with her jumping around me... but alas... nothing.  Knowing she hasn't been feeling well lately, I think the worse.
Calling her name, I walk to my bedroom.... but to see....
Queenie Beanie, sitting on the edge of my bed... with... the threads from the fringe on a bed throw pillow attached to her tags on her collar... with... my 12"x12" bed throw pillow stuck to her back (via thread caught on her tags).

Look of fear on Beanie's face... "Mummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm-my! Get this off my back!!!!!"

Ah, yes, where is a camcorder when I needed one?

They make us laugh, they give unconditional love during our time of need... but I had no clue that giving me back my throw pillow would be her gift to me and how I would start my new year. :)

Well I hope this thread supports all sorts of support no matter if they are based in reality or not...hehehee

I disasociated myself from my tumor by creating an alter for it called Kuato.
Through the thick and thin he has "supported me" along with my dark humor.

I was able to laugh my way all the way through surgery and recovery due to kuato instead of freaking out about dying and a drill in my head.

Do not bother with trying to get a weird sticker because I ritually burned them all and threw them off a bridge   :D

Other support came from my Wife, cat, this BOARD OF COURSE, and purging on THESTATUS.COM!!
