Title: MDHearingAid?
Post by: ampeep on March 12, 2014, 11:32:15 am
Saw an ad for these in a magazine - Amazon used to sell them & have 4 1/2 star rating & they cost ~$300/each.

Anybody have any experience with these?  Thought they might be useful for folks that have some AN side hearing remaining.

I have some hearing but practically no word recognition in my AN ear.  After testing some options I ended up purchasing a Phonak Bolero hearing aid that has been specifically programmed for my needs.  Though the quality of my hearing is better with it in, I still have word recognition issues with this and the price was very significantly more than $300.  I cannot imagine the Amazon MD hearing aid being sophisticated enough to help me or somebody whose hearing is limited.  Though I may be wrong and it won't be the first time ;D  !

terisandler,

Actually, it's a separate company -- they no longer sell through Amazon.   However, the MDHearingAid site still shows the reviews; some mentioned having had expensive hearing aids.

In what way was your Phonak hearing aid programmed for your needs?  Did it boost certain frequencies?  Wondering if any hearing aid is able to compensate for distorted sounds.

Thanks, Keith

Keith, i am no expert buy I know adjustments were made several times in response to issues I reported to the audiologist.  I have a horrible time in noisy, crowded, acoustically challenged places and my hearing aid was programmed to accommodate that.  I think the program directs the earphone to focus on the person I am speaking with in that type of situation.  There are four automatic programs available on my hearing aid and I had a fifth added as a manual adjustment.  I think that one has something to do with focusing on sound from my AN side.  You might want to check with an audiologist about programming options and see if there is somebody to speak with at the company that sells the MD hearing aids.
