Title: preoperative symptoms
Post by: Sible on January 03, 2014, 09:14:53 am
So I have recently been diagnosed with an AN 2.1 cm.  This morning I woke up to the smell of burnt toast, realizing it was quite early, I went back to bed.  Is this a 'normal' sensation? Can anyone relate to this symptom?

Thanks

Other members have reported similar issues.

Use the search feature at the top right hand corner of the page, put in taste and smell (no and) and you'll come up with other discussions on the topic.

Hi Sible

I can relate totally to your smell issues.  I have had the same and I became aware of it in the couple of years before my AN was even diagnosed.  I could only describe it as a smell of diesel oil or similar a sort of a burned smell.  I used to say to colleagues at work that it must be coming from the traffic outside but they never had it.  I then noticed it was with me at home which was all very odd. It's wasn't there all the time just in spells.

I had GK one year ago next week here in the UK.  I've also had the smell issues a couple of times since then but less than before.  I've never had any taste issues that I have noticed just smell.  It's very weird because I don't think the AN is near the nerves for smell although I could be wrong on that.  Perhaps someone can advise.  I await my first post GK MRI on 31 January so will know if the treatment is working or not as the case may be.  Pretty soon now anyway. Not exactly looking forward to that because worry it might be bad news of course.

Hope it shows that all is well. Do they do GK all at once or can it be done over a period of weeks in fractionalized doses?
