Title: 6 months since gamma knife
Post by: Fender3131 on November 27, 2013, 04:19:57 pm
Hello Everyone,

Well it has been close to six months since I had gamma knife surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. So far so good, I have not lost any additional hearing (as far as I can tell) and I only have slight numbness/sensation on the face side of the AN.

I researched quite a bit on this site and elsewhere before I decided on the University of Pittsburgh (Dr. Lunsford). I also looked into my local hospital (University of Wisconsin), The House Clinic in LA and Stanford University (Dr. Chang).

I am glad I made the decision of radiation therapy, even though it will be a long time before the doctors will proclaim the AN controlled, I believe my quality of life (for now) is much better then would have been if I had surgery.

My tumor was 2.85cm with multiple cysts inside.

Thank you everyone on this site who has helped me along the way!  :) :D

That's great news.

Have you had your first follow up MRI yet?

I had GK in Jan 2013 and had my first follow up MRI in August. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing the dark splotches of necrosis in the tumor that means the tumor is dying.

Don't be alarmed if the tumor looks slightly bigger than it used to. Swelling as it dies is to be expected.
