Title: Eye and Nose Waters Uncontrollably When Active
Post by: NancyT on June 23, 2013, 09:30:06 pm
I'm about one year post op - 2.5 cm on the right side with some facial weakness/paralysis.  When I am physically active, like house work or yard work, my eye begins to continually water.  It also runs through my sinuses so I'm constantly having to stop what I'm doing to get a tissue and because I can't see what I'm doing.   My Ophthalmologist thought it was either dry eye overacting or synkinesis with my sweat gland.  Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem and if it got better over time.

I have had this problem from the get go. It still happens. When I do yoga, getting clothes out of the dryer, walking in hot weather: my AN side nose runs & my AN eye waters like crazy.
It's been 7 years since surgery & it's still the same for me...

I am 32 years post AN removal and I still have this problem.  So annoying, I have asked several doctors in the past and have been given no answers.  It's just something I have learned to live with and always carry tissues or handkerchiefs with me.

Hi Lynn;
   You could check with Dr, but, I've an idea it will show on the record as "no clinical significance.'
   It is normal and natural for the body to produce increased phlegm or tears when smelling food or eating. Some people just produce more.
   I realize phlegm or tear production sometimes changes post Tx, but it will likely be termed, "of unknown etiology".

Ditto here.  Not so much of my eye watering (Oh how I wish!  :P) but nose on AN side runs whenever I do pretty much anything LOL

You're not the only one. My face is paralyzed on the right side, which means I can't smile, blink, or make tears, but my nose runs on that side. Go figure.  :-\ So I bring extra tissues when I know I'll be exerting myself or when it's very hot. Those seem to be the times when my right nostril runs the most. I also suffer from inexplicable saliva production (drooling) for no reason. It comes and goes, is not consistent or very frequent, but when it happens it's usually when I'm asleep and I wake up to a completely saturated pillow. I mean completely soaked. Ah well. Like one ANer said, ANs are the gift that keep on giving.

My eye waters whenever it chooses to, no rhyme or reason as to why that I have figured out. I am over 4 years post op.

As far as fluid out the nose, I had a CF leak that was evident when I was active. I would ask you Dr. if you should gather a sample and have it checked just to make sure. When I was moving around and tilted my head forward it was a solid flow of fluid. Do not wan to cause any panic, but it is something I dealt with.
