Title: Wonkyheads Unite!!!!
Post by: Captain Deb on July 17, 2006, 10:27:32 am
Well, I just came up with this silly word that describes vestibular symptoms that a lot of us have--a feeling that your head isn't attached to the rest of you, that the world doesn't act horizontal anymore, and doesn't have straight lines, and that gravity is no longer your friend.
I've had this ever since surgery and some days are better than others, depending on how tired I am, what I did yesterday, how much sleep I've gotten, my stress level, headache status, etc.
I thought in this thread we could shared our experiences and Unite the Wonkyheads of the World!!! (or at least this forum!)

Oh yeah Girly, you count--even the zapped folks qualify for being a Wonkyhead.  They got Dead Heads and Parrot Heads, why not Wonkyheads?  Should it be one word or two?
We should make a T-shirt and sell them at the convention!  We need a logo! Like one of those generic stick figure people only wobblin'!

Capt.,
Maybe we could put together a blues band, The Wonkyheads.  The first album would have songs like "The Wonkyhead Strut" and "Wonkyheaded Woman".  The video would be interesting to see.  :)

 Rob

How dare they!  I thought it was a rule (or at least it should be) that potato chips and soda are in the same aisle! I can relate to being wonky headed  but I can also relate to feeling as though I always have IMR (insufficient memory retention).  Maybe we can combine them somehow.................

I actually sent letters to all my doctors in June and used the term "wonky headed".   ;D  Of course I had to explain to all of them....they all just laughed and said good explanation  :-*  Told em Capt Deb taught it to me :o)

I've been using Wonky to describe me, too and I guess I found that word here.  It's that not quite light headed feeling, verging on dizzy but not quite....disconnected sort of feeling...I have that too!  It's a perfectly good word and I did find this when I googled Wonky. Did you guys know this was a real word and pretty darn close to what you guys have been defining it as?
wonky
A adjective
 1  rickety, shaky, wobbly, wonky

inclined to shake as from weakness or defect; "a rickety table"; "a wobbly chair with shaky legs"; "the ladder felt a little wobbly"; "the bridge still stands though one of the arches is wonky"

 2  askew, awry(p), cockeyed, lopsided, wonky, skew-whiff

turned or twisted toward one side; "a...youth with a gorgeous red necktie all awry"- G.K.Chesterton; "his wig was, as the British say, skew-whiff"

I've already adopted "wonky"--it's perfect for me.

I am definately a "Wonkyhead"!  Now how do I convince my PT that I am not alone in this?  He has only had one other AN Wonky and he was a Dr. who is back to work in surgery after only a year with no symptoms or after affects?  He thinks everyone is the same!
 ::)Have a great day!

I think we should get "deelybobbers."  They are these glittery shaped thingies that are attatched to a plastic headband by long springy wires and they bob around like antennae on your wonkyhead.  I usta sell 'em at my T-shirt stand during Carnival in the Islands.  We could get 'em 2 toned so you could wear one color on yer deaf side and one color on your good side, so in a crowd of wonkyheads, you would know which ear to yell into!!!

Brenda,
You bring up a god point.  Being wonkyheaded is difficult to describe to someone.  I don't think anyone, particularly a Physical Terrorist   ;) , really understand what it's like unless they've experienced it.

Rob,
I usta call my Physical Terrorist "Elivra--Mistress of Torture." After each excercise I had to sit and consiously try to bring my wonkiness down a few notches. "What's your wonky level?" she would ask!
