Title: Brain and eye aren't working together
Post by: sunfish on March 26, 2011, 06:01:11 pm
Went to neuro-opthalmologist this week.  I have floaty, murky stuff in my vision, some mild double vision at times (ghost images, stacked), and shaky camera kind of vision.  Doctor did a very thorough exam, especially looking at field of vision and if I have nystagmus.  She could find nothing obvious wrong (the good news), but this doesn't explain my symptoms (bad news).  However, she did say she believes my brain and my eyes need to learn to work together again, due to my vestibular problems (testing last summer showed 46% loss on that side).  She hopes I still compensate, and improve.  My balance is improving, and so is my health overall.  Doctor is sending me to retina specialist "just to be sure."

Actually, I'm pretty happy with this answer, even though it's not really an answer . . .

Sunfish ~

'Good news/bad news' results from a doctor can be frustrating.  However, the fact that there isn't any discernible physical problem with your eyes has to be comforting.  However, that isn't much help if your vision is compromised by...whatever.  The doctor's opinion that you may possibly have a brain-eye coordination problem (that can be overcome with therapy) is encouraging, if not definitive.  Having a retina specialist conduct a further examination is prudent.  I'm glad you're happy (if not entirely satisfied) with the doctor's conclusions.  I hope this problem ends for you, soon.

Keep asking for answers.  I think it's the only way we can get to the bottom of some things.
My neuro physiotherapist said that my eyes and my brain have to learn that I'm in a particular 'space' again.  Are you having neuro physio yet?
Since starting this kind of therapy I can now move my eyes to an object and not feel like the room is spinning so this week we've moved on to standing with eyes closed and then taking a step and opening eyes again. This is one of the weirdest feelings I've had but I know I'm on the improve and hope that you are too by the time you read this.

Keep on keeping on mate.

Thanks for your responses, Jim and Suu.  Wow, a neuro physiotherapist . . . another kind of specialist I can think about visiting . . .

Hi

I hope this comes right for you and think it will. It just takes so long.
