Title: nasty coldsore right before surgery
Post by: flier58 on November 27, 2010, 06:38:51 am
Hi everybody,
What else can go nwrong   I just noticed a developing huge cold sore above my lip ... Does anybody know how it may affect upcoming surgery (Nov. 29th), will they bump me or proceede with it.  I am so exhausted with anxiety, cannot take any pills or vitamins, have no apetite so my immune system is probably sshot.  Do you (esp. medical professionals) know what is the chance that they will move surgery?  I hope not and I know that I will not be able to talk to any docs,  Any advice to speed up the healing of the sore

Flier,I find Herpecin-L works really well to speed up healing of cold sores, it's a lip balm and you should be able to use it post surgery.

Hang in there, lot of people have been through this ahead of you an come out just fine.

Abreva is a good one also to put on cold sores.   Kind of expensive.           Do you have any phone no of the hospital surgical area?        I had one ahead of time in case of health issues.           I am sure if it could be canceled with the closeness to the surgical site.              They do seem to break out under a stressful time.                       Cheryl R

Hi Flier,

I certainly understand your concern.  I was put on an antivirial medication pre surgery to prevent an outbreak.  I would do a "cold sore" search on this site to get more information, as I remember there is a lot of good stuff.  Best of luck with your surgery.  Sues

Hi Flier,

Carmex works great for me! Stress definitely brings out the cold sores!!! Sorry you're dealing with this nuisance, try to get some rest.
Blessings to you and hope you get some peace.

Flier,
Surgery just around the corner, hope you get that surgery out of the way. I would not imagine that a cold sore would postpone the surgery, but then again, who knows.
As long as you are not running a fever...
I personally gob on the CARMEX morning noon and night, before I go to bed. I'm sure you're extra anxious.
Try some relaxing/sleeping if at all possible. Calm CD music is my best friend, with headphones.
See you on the other side. It'll work out.

I too suffer cold sores from stress and my AN surgery is scheduled for Tuesday the 30th, so I'm right there with you.  I noticed a tingling on my lip today, so started taking my Acyclovir which always seems to prevent a full-blown episode.  I don't think they will cancel your surgery, but the stress will probably make your cold sore worse.  Just alert everyone--doctors & nurses--to it.  Good luck with your surgery tomorrow.

Hello everyone,
Surgery tomorrow.  Keep your prayers for me and my little one. I'm scared.  Thank you all for the support and good thoughts.  I'll try to post asap.
