Keith .....

Even though I am not a candidate for a BAHA, I found the video very interesting and informative.  I had no idea there was that much soft tissue between the skin and the bone.  I cannot feel it at all when I feel behind my ears.

Thanks for sharing the link.

Great link, Keith - thanks for sharing!  I'm going in for baha surgery next week, so this is very timely.  Probably not for the feint of heart, but I enjoyed it!

Wow, we are almost surgery "twins!"  Mine is Thursday the 18th.  So, I guess we will be getting our processors at about the same time, too - we can compare notes ... and sounds!  Good luck Wednesday, Keith!

Thanks for the video - but no thanks.

I was wide awake during my implant - local anesthesia only - but I didn't see a thing; thankfully  ;D

I'd rather be oblivious to seeing the procedure, but that's just me.

I'm sure others will find this video very interesting.

Thanks for posting it, Keith.

Deb - BAHA kit will be in the mail on Saturday or Monday.   ;D

My surgery went well, I was given a general.  My surgeon used the existing scar from my AN surgery. The only problem was right after I arrived in recovery, I had difficulty breathing. The nurse said she saw my oxygen level go from 97 to 83. She gave me oxygen and some ice chips and my level returned to normal. Today I removed the BAHA hatand found the square spunge that is under the healing cover to go from a nice pink to a dark brown. I am waiting for the doctor to call back.

Way to go Keith!  ;D  And a future "way-to-go" to you Debbi!   ;D

The pink to brown  :P is probably normal, as in my case.  Until I had that changed (after the turbin was off), I taped a piece of gauze about 1.5" x 1.5" over the site.  That made the view more palatible.  If you choose to do the same and decide to use duct tape, pick a nice color .... HA!

The next 3 months will fly by .... so keep smiling!

Thanks Greg. If it can't be fixed with duct tape then it's broken.

Debbie, how did your surgery go?

Keith -

pink to brown is normal, like grega said.

I'm guessing the brown is actually dried blood - at least it was on my pink bandage.  There is some bleeding and discharge for the first day or two post implant.

Glad things went well.  Hope your healing goes smoothly.

Keith, glad to hear it went well!  Hope the drainage stops - sounds nasty.  I had a lot of drainage yesterday and last night (red and some yellowish gunk) but the area is dry and crusty today.  Delightful.  My hair is going every which way, and it is stiff as a board from all the gunk they put in it.  Can't wait to shampoo tomorrow!!

Like you, i had general anesthesia.  For some reason the procedure took a little over 2 hours, which no one of us expected.  My husband was so scared when the surgeon finally came out that all he wanted to know was if I  was okay (which I was).  So, I will ask the surgeon why it took that long - just curious, not worried.  I went in to the OR about 12:30 and woke up in recovery at 3.  I did have some pain issues and a spiky pulse, so they kept me until about 7.  So, it was a very long day - we left to drive to NYC at 8 yesterday morning and got home about 9 last night.  Other than feeling tired and a little sore, I feel fine today.  I plan to take it easy anyway - my hubby is insisting on waiting on me hand and foot ... and, hey, who am I to argue!

Keep healing, Keith!!

I am glad everything went well for you. My surgery tool longer then I was told. I think the sergeon didn't count the prep time. When I had my AN surgery the pywayrep time was 1.5 hrs. Now all we have to do is wait 3 months to get switched on. That will be a wonderful birthday gift and an end to my hearing issues. It was around February 2010 that I started to notice hearing and balance issues.

Have a nice Thanksgiving

Thanks, Keith.  It's kind of reassuring that yours took longer, too.  AFter reading about all the people who talked through their 30 minute procedure, I was starting to feel like an oddity!   :D :D

Yes, now the countdown.  I am figuring that we should get "turned on" in late February!! Great birthday presents for both of us (mine is Jan 30, so a little late, but still a great present!)  Can't wait to compare notes.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

I can't speak for implant surgery under general anesthesia, because I had local, but prep time for my surgery took more time than the actual procedure.

Lots of drapes  :o  By the time they placed them all, I basically could only see down a long "tunnel" of drapes to a really nice nurse who was seated at the other end.

Start to finish was only about 90 minutes, but I only had lidocaine injected into my head.  I think the time of your surgeries is normal in light of the general anesthesia.
