Title: Regional Section to Forum - All hail from Boston, please sign in here! :)
Post by: ppearl214 on May 19, 2006, 02:01:16 pm
I would LOVE to see a regional section to this forum so those from a particular area can possibly coordinate face to face meetings, etc.  I know the Boston ANA group has lost it's group leader and we're in limbo out here...so...

If you are from Boston/New England/NYC, please say hi here!  Maybe we can coordinate a face to face meeting or such. I've spoken to some of you here so I know you all exist! :)

Thanks!
Phyl

Jane, I have missed you and thought of you often. Will have to chat on phone sometime soon to catch up on things!  Here's hoping you are feeling well and thank you so so so very much for the talk we had and sharing with me all that you did! xoxoxo

Hi all,

Anyone interested in a mini-AN get-together? I know summer months are tough and not sure how driving affects you all, but I'm willing if others are. Wonderful to meet other AN'ers face to face to share and laugh and share and whatever. Just a thought.

Hey Paul and Katie!

Thrilled to hear this! :)

Thoughts... a Sunday in July? Any Sunday during July not work?

Was thinking out towards Worcester, MA... so, for those in CT, W. MA or Metro Boston, easy to get to (yep, even for Littleton! ;) )

Thoughts?

In general, a Sunday brunch in Worcester works fine, with the possible exception of July 16th.  But I'm also hoping to hear back about a surgical date soon.  I got the impression it would be sooner rather than later, but I don't know if that means as soon as July!!

*zooms up in red Porche!*  ;)

Ok, we got 2 for July 23rd!  Any others or another date if need be?

Will do a Google (my 2nd cousin, twice removed) to check for locations for brunch and will call ahead with headcount and quiet corner so things aren't too noisy for us!  There may be some spots by Auburn Mall.... anyone got suggestions or dietary needs?  Just want all comfortable. This is going to be great to FINALLY meet you all!

...ok, except for CrazyRockerDude since I've already met him and he already knows how I eat like a sow! :)

Unfortunately, I don't know Worcester at all so I don't have suggestions on where to go.  But I'll ask around.  I have friends that live out that way.

Weekends from April through mid November are mostlly reserved for cruising in Maine. The meningitis has temporarily prevented that. But I got a clean bills of health from Dr McKenna last Monday and Dr Barker on Thursday. So now we need the weather to improve....some sun and a bit less rain would be good.... and that's where we'll be until Thanksgiving.

Hopefully, after meeting in July, some of you will want to do it again, maybe in the non-sailing months.

Mac from NH.

Hi,
Why do you think the Boston group has lost its leader? I am and have been the Boston Support Group leader ever since my diagnosis in 2001! We have meetings twice a year. If you are a member of ANA you should be receiving announcements by mail of these meetings if you live within a certain radius of Boston. If you do not live within that radius, you just have to check the ana website or call their office to find out when the next meeting is.

The confusion may come from the fact that I have requested that someone take over my position as group leader. Five years is a long time for one person to do this. But I have not stepped down since no one has stepped up. There is an active Boston chapter.

Oh, hun! Phyllis here in Wakefield! I spoke to you a while back on the phone when I first discovered the ANA and this site! Thank you for posting!  I received a special notice from the ANA annoucing your departure as group leader and thought you were done at this point!  I had no clue you were still doing. I have not received any updates on any meetings or such in the past months, thus, we were just putting together in inpromtu, informal  brunch to meet others in the New England area.  If you are still leading the group in metro Boston, please let me know and if any upcoming group meetings are going on, please advise. I have heard nothing more except the notice that you resigned the position.  Please do not take anything personally... my understanding is that you were already done and the ANA was looking for another group leader.

Thank you for clarifying this!

Phyl

Hi Phyllis,
I recall our conversation and you are partly correct. ANA is looking for someone to take my place at my request but I have not abandoned ship. Actually, I have been asking for someone to take over (at our meetings) for the last two years! It doesn't take a lot of effort. A group leader decides on a topic for the meeting and recruits an expert speaker on that topic; finds a place for the meeting to be held; and ANA handles mailing out the notice and directions. Sometimes a meeting is just for sharing experiences. This is called a 'Caring and Sharing' meeting. No speaker needed. Meetings can be held in a quiet restaurant, a hospital meeting room, a church meeting room....or a members home. I have had two meetings in my home. Maybe one of you in the Boston area will consider taking over. I'll give you all the support you need...even act as a co-leader if you like. But in truth, you won't need much help. It's pretty easy.

When I came on board, there hadn't been an active Boston chapter for several years because the former leader stepped down and no one took over.

Normally, we would have already had a meeting this year but I have been extremely busy and we will likely only have one meeting this year in August or September so stay tuned.

One more note, I have just had an MRI after watching my tumor for 5 years and after holding the film up to a window, I expect that my dr. will be telling me it's decision time when he gets the report. That's what prompted my visit to this forum.

Hi Donna,

No worries but if you can, that would be terrific! :)

I was researching some potential brunch restaurants and stumbled on this. Very quaint historic location.

http://www.maxwellmaxine.com/Maxines/Brunch/brunch.html

Terrific Sunday brunch menu.  I did call and make a few inquiries. Sunday brunch cost/adult is $17.95. If that is too costly, please let me know (private email is fine).  Directions to the restaurant seem easy, immediately off the highway:

http://www.maxwellmaxine.com/Maxines/History/history.html#reachus

Brunch is served from 11:00am to 2:30pm on Sundays.

I inquired about having a table for us tucked aside to keep us away from any potential loud noises (as well as ease of speaking to each other and hearing each other). They said no problem.

So, this is just one suggestion.  If anyone else has any places in mind, please chime in.  I'm not all that familiar with the area so any and all suggestions are truly appreciated.

Thanks!
Phyl

Hi Phyl-
Sorry I have not responded sooner, just got back from a week long (successful) horse show in VA. I am going to try and join you but do not know for sure just yet, should know in a day or two.  It should be fun trying to figure out where we should all sit so that we may hear each other (musical chairs anyone?)
I really appreciate what you are trying to do! Have a great day,

Hi,
I can't commit to that date. I will be arriving home from vacation the night before and that could be a stretch to get out there the next morning. But I'd like to play it by ear...my right ear that is....and have the option of showing up if the stars are aligned. I'm sure the restaurant can pull up another chair for a paying customer. I am putting down in my calendar. I just need to know what time....and am I right to understand that we must leave the restaurant by 11 a.m.? That's fine with me but if it's true, I hope the meeting would start by 9 a.m.

Finally saw how to navigate and get to all four pages of thread, so now I know we start at 11, much more civilized given that it's a drive for most.  I hope to make it July 30th, would be even better if I could figure out way to team up with another so I don't do all the driving in one day.
What has happened to the NH ANA Support Group?  I attended two meetings and have heard nothing more.  Anyone know?  I'll be interested to learn of the Boston area one.  And any help on headaches, bring it on...

I did not like the directions on the web site .. so I found the place on yahoo

http://maps.yahoo.com/py/maps.py?Pyt=Tmap&addr=25+Union+St+&csz=Worcester+MA+&Get%A0Map=Get+Map

Can anyone verify if this is the correct spot?

as having never been there, I double checked their directions to your map directions... looks about right... suggestion would be to call them and reconfirm based on the map you found.... I'm coming from a totally different direction so hoping it is right.

Can't wait to FINALLY meet you!

Wish I could join you all - so close on vacation this week in NYC and I am feeling so close to you all already...  Unfortunately I have to go home on Wednesday.  Will miss all of you this time.  :(  But you all have fun!  ; :-*  May be I should look into the west coast group?

Ya know Mary.... I'd reeeeeeeeeeeeealy think about extending that vaca and fly back Sunday night! ;)  Will have an eggs benedict or Bloody Mary for you.... there are so many here from the "bad" coast, I'm sure you all can figure out the same.  Have a terrific vacation and hoping you aren't near Queens/NYC.. they were still without power at last check.

Hello all-
Sorry to let everyone know that I WILL NOT be able to attend Sunday's brunch.  My driver(spouse) is
a real estate broker and has to do an open house.  In the mean time, I will continue to monitor the forum.

Hey Phyll - thanks for the post in the other category regarding the brunch.  Found time to pull this one up and read about it.  As mentioned, got to go to Plymouth that day to check out John Alden and Pocahontas (not sure if I have my historic characters correct) - only kidding!! Got a cousin's reunion that had been planned for months.  Hope everyone has a great time - would love to meet y'all - maybe I'll get something going in Florida when we return for the winter - oh the life of the rich and famous - ya right!!

Katie and All,
I'm just not there yet for all that driving, alas; I was hoping, and the time will come....  You all sound so effortlessly energetic, it amazes me.  Yesterday I did have a day with NO head pain, and that was very special, not even that low grade pain I manage to just ignore.  I'm hoping for more such days to come.  In the meantime, please let me know any advice/thoughts for that (very special) head pain post sub occipital.  I do acupuncture and craniosacral therapy, would like to know what has helped in other cases.

So, tomorrow have a fine brunch, I'll be thinking of you...

oh, Wendy... I'm so sorry to hear that... should your body decide to cooperate, I'm still holding a chair in the minute chance you can make it.  I have no remedies for you to offer but was hoping that face to face huggles would help.

I just spoke to the restaurant and we are all set. Round table, in the back away from others and they are looking forward to us coming! Can't wait to see you all.

CrazyRockerDude/Paul, will call you later to confirm up our ride... will pick you up at 10am at Borders/Chili's parking lot.  You have my mobile phone number if anything comes up.

See you all there!  Reminder: Reservation under "ANA", 11am! :)

YAY!!!!!!
