Title: Dr Backous in Seattle has left VM
Post by: rezski on April 20, 2010, 06:09:35 pm
I just got a letter from Virginia Mason today saying he had left as of March 26th.  Even though I don't need to be seen again till 2012 as my AN isn't growing I will need a new doctor.  Any recomendations for Seattle or Tacoma which is actually closer?  VM has not hired his replacement yet.  Courious minds want to know where he went but there is no info on the web at this time either.

Hi,

There doesn't seem to be very much information here about doctors in Seattle. I am newly diagnosed and am deciding to W and W until late fall. The doctors' names I have been given are Dr. Mangham (ear), Dr. Hoistad (ear), and Dr. Raisis (brain). Which team in this city is "the one"? Or do most folks from this area head south to LA?

Dr. Mangham & Dr. Raisis did my Facial Neuroma surgery in 1992.  At the time I was told they were the best in the NW.  Jill

I just spoke to Dr. Backous's office. He is now over at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute.

I had Dr. Backous as a surgeon at Virginia Mason and loved him.  My tumor was very small but we got it removed within 2 months of finding it out. He removed it on Dec 4th.   I'm going to see him tomorrow for my post op appointment at Swedish.  I've been waiting till he started seeing patients.  My fiance and I loved him and just thought he was a great surgeon.  The only issues I really have now is my hearing and a little facial paralysis but you wouldn't notice it.  And I lost my balance nerve but in June we ran a 1/2 marathon so I don't think it affects me too much.  He said it would take time and it is.  We are getting married on Oct 9th so hopefully by then my old smile is back but if not its totally okay.

Dr. Backous is a great Dr and I can't wait to see him to show him my progress over the last 9 months.  And Lynn is nurse is super sweet too.  She went to Swedish with him.
