I know that titanium is not a magnetic metal, but has it been any problem going through airport security? How about the sound processor? I have some titanium in my heart, but it never shows up, and if it does I carry a card from the manufacturer. Any problems?

James,
I have a card from Cochlear that I can show if I'm ever stopped by airport security. Neither the titanium implant, abutment, nor BAHA sound processor has ever set off the security alarm ... and I have flown a whole bunch of times both domestically and overseas since my January 2008 translab/BAHA implantation surgery.

Hi James,
I have 3 titanium bands and 6 screws holding my head together and I have not had a problem at the airports. I asked my doctor and he said I wouldn't need a card identifying my problem. So far after 5 years and flying numerous times, it has not been an issue. You should be fine. Ann

Thanks!

I pass through a metal detector at work a couple times a day. I never remove my titanium frame eyeglasses, and I never set the detector off.

Security has never been a problem for my titanium BAHA implant. It did set off the alarm at Best Buy once, but that might have been the processor that caused that. Not sure. I think the poor guy at the door almost passed out when I showed him it was just the screw in my head! :D

as others have said, the titanium rod in your skull won't set off the metal detectors. I've been through airport security numerous times since my implant surgery and haven't beeped once. I also have titanium mesh, screws, and a plate in my head from my AN surgery.
I am curious to see what will happen next time I go through security at O'Hare since they now have those new x-ray machines that are supposed to show "everything". I don't know if the x-ray machine will exclude the BAHA implant or not. Logic tells me it won't show up, but you never know. I think I'll keep my card from Cochlear handy just in case.
Just a note to those wearing the new BP100.
I've walked through airport security with my Divino on my head a few times, but because of the BP100's feedback manager - that will even "answer" a beep from your microwave - I'd suggest removing it before going through security.
