Title: ISO NYC referral
Post by: mandy721 on November 16, 2009, 12:04:27 pm
Does anyone in NYC, Manhattan, have a referral for a mental health specialist for dealing with the post - surgery depression?

Hey Mandy

Suggestion.... check with your (husband's) surgical team as they may have Social workers as part of the team to help work with patients that need a little assistance. I know the BT surgical (back up) team I have does have a SW involved... and my radio-team does have SW as well (met with him before my radiation).

I want to make sure you all are in proper hands and am not familiar with Manhattan mental health specialist, but just a suggestion of having you check with the surgical team first. They may be able to make the referral for you all (for insurance purposes as well).

Please hang in there.

Phyl,

Thanks for your response.  I have gotten referrals from the surgeons and are in the process of contacting them.  I am impressed that your surgical and radio-teams include  social workers to deal with post-treatment issues.  We could definitely use something like this.

Best,
Mandy

Hey Mandy, glad to help if I can. I hope the referrals bring what is needed... and sending wellness wishes along. I hope the SW's can help bring guidance as needed.

You both hang in there... I'm cheering you on!

Hi,

His surgery was up at Columbia Presbyterian with Drs. Sisti (neurosurgeon) and Storpor (neurotologist). Who did your surgery and how are you doing?

My neurologist also referred me to Dr. Sisti I heard he was excellent and also the hospital is I believe in the top 10, but he did not accept my insurance so I had to look somewhere else who accepts GHI and was very limited.  I went to one surgeon at Cornell and she accepted GHI but did does not do AN surgery and she referred me to Dr. Stieg and Dr. Selesnick who are both excellent my AN was small 9mm and I have hearing loss and possible problems with the titanium plate but we are doing wait and see needs time to heal but the tumor was completely removed.  The only thing with most surgeons is that they are pleased that their end is done but the after effects from the surgery they don't seem that interested in.  But this forum has helped with knowing that there are others with same side effects and helps that you are not just imagining it. I am interested in the details with your husband please let me know and it will give you a chance to vent also I am sure you are exhausted caregivers also need some TLC.

Hey Mandy - just want to wish you both well.  I know what it is like to deal with all of the post surgical issues, which are compounded for those of us who wake up with funky faces.  You guys both hang in there - it DOES get better!
