Title: Funny things that we THINK we hear...
Post by: Kaybo on August 18, 2009, 07:26:35 pm
This may be in the wrong topic but it is about our inability to hear things correctly so I put it here...please feel free to move it if it gets to be going the wrong way...I always hear stuff wrong and usually it is VERY amusing what I hear!  After this weekend, we decided we should start a thread...so here goes:

Funny from Chicago...Thursday night dinner:

Clarice to Saralynn: (what I thought I heard) "So how do you like the Redwings?"  <wow, I didn't know they were big hockey fans...they appear to be such calm, quiet women...>

Sara's response: "The rooms are very nice..."

*what was really asked: how is the Red Roof Inn?"*    ;D ;D

This is a great idea for a thread! I've posted this a while back, but I still laugh about it.

When Dr. Noren was placing the headframe on my head for the GK procedure, it was the most intense pain I had ever felt. Tears were welling up in my eyes, and I remember I was twisting my pant leg with my hand. He asked me if I was in pain, and I replied that I was. Then I heard him say, "Do you feel any PLEASURE?", and I'm thinking... Is this guy some sort of sadist?...I was kind of freaked out that he would ask that...Wasn't it obvious I was hurting?  So I answered with a rather cross tone  "Uh, no, no pleasure at all!", then the nurse started laughing and said "He said PRESSURE, do you feel any PRESSURE?"
"Oh yes, yes I feel pressure", I said, sheepishly....

Oh yes,   A thump that makes me think someone is knocking as our one doorbell doesn't work.  No one there of course.      I get a ring in the head in the night that sounds like the phone and wakes me up but no more rings heard.       I used to have a sound that made it sound like a tv was on way in the background but haven't lately.                  Figuring out what words my husband is actually saying as part of a sentence is a real challenge as he doesn't make much effort to make it a bit slower and toward me.
Part of the time sentences sound scratchy to me and my dr isn't concerned over it.        It is annoying though.

I "hear" things all the time too. I know that door knocking one way too well. I can't begine to count how many times I've run to the door to find no one there. Now I wait until the dog runs to the door. His hearing is much more reliable than mine. I also hear "voices", mostly in the car. Isn't it weird that we hear this stuff? Does anyone else?

When I mishear things it's always something dirty and I laugh out loud!  Usually the person who has said something perfectly normal, when I explain what I thought I heard, is not as amused as me!  Not sure why not!

I'll join the crowd -- I usually don't know what was said, but think I hear things when there is nothing to hear.  I often have what I call Emily Lotella (a character from early Saturday Night Live shows)  syndrome and completely mishear what is being said and say "Never mind!" and laugh  I hear the false doorbell sound quite often too.  I wonder what causes that?

While visiting my mother-in-law this weekend, we started talking about how erratic her blood pressure was. She said she had White Colt Syndrome. I’m just sitting there trying to figure out if I’ve ever heard of this malady… nope never heard of it! Then she continued her story… “Yeah, every time I go into the doctors office, my blood pressure spikes”. It was only then that I realized she said White Coat Syndrome. I thought of this thread and had to laugh!

This is a perfect thread to start.  I loved the "mishears" shared thus far.
I know this has happened to me too, but right now it appears that I've blocked them from my memory:-)

Still laughing over Lisa's!! ;D ;D

All of us with severe tinnitus can readily identify with the voices, bells, etc.  Late last night my husband was out in the yard with the electric trimmer ...... not really because he was right next to me, but I teased him that it sure sounded like he was!

Lisa - that is soooo funny!
I've not had an AN - just lost all hearing in left ear a few months ago due to ???????.  But this forum has been very helpful and I thank you all for it.

So anyway, my job allows me to telecommute most days and my 2 little dogs spend most of their time in my home office looking out the window at the street.  When anyone passes, they start growling but have learning to shush if I snap my fingers - otherwise it escalates into full-blown barking.  A few days after I lost my hearing on one side, I'm on the phone with the HR director of a client company and I hear dogs barking in her office.  How nice, I think, they allow employees to bring their dogs to work.  Well, the dogs continue barking and barking and it becomes really annoying and I'm wondering how she can allow them to carry on like that when I can hardly hear her and then I realize - it's my dogs.  I hadn't realized it would now sound like everything was coming from the phone, since I wasn't picking up anything in my other ear.  I really didn't know what to say to her to explain.  Live and learn.

We have a fairly small house and sound really travels.  My daughters (13 and 15) often fool around way too long after bedtime and since they have to get up early for school, we really discourage this.  I thought I heard them laughing about half an hour after they went to bed and yelled upstairs for them to turn off the TV and go to sleep.  My husband looked at me like I was crazy and said why are you yelling upstairs, they're probably asleep.  We were watching Jay Leno and it  turned out that the laughter I heard was from the TV, not my kids.  Was my face red!! :D

Thank you everyone sooo much for the warm welcome and vast knowledge, i feel like I'm in information overload.  I have been highly referred to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Dr Baetty, they do over 2000 cases of AN each year, does anyone of any personal input.

I have a new funny to add to the thread. Last night my husband came home from a meeting and said (what I thought I heard) Well, I'm fat and dumb!! He had a huge smile on his face. Now this is not at all true of my husband so my comment was , No you are not!!! He looked at me kind of funny and said, What do I have left to do?? At this point I was new I had not heard him correctly and asked what the original comment was. What he really said was "I'm finally done". He had just finished rechartering our local Boy Scout Unit. (and it's a real pain to do) We both had a good laugh over it.

Ok, I was waiting for it to happen...dropping off my 10 year old at sleepover and helping her get her stuff out of car when I hear her say "do I smell bad"  and I am like huh?!?  So I say "of course you don't smell bad - you smell fine - why are you worried?" at which time she tells me that she asked if we had her small bag....oops! :D

Oh...this was too fun! Thanks for the laughs everyone  :D

I wonder if that is what's happening to me? Hubby and I will be upstairs in bed and it will be really quiet and suddenly I will hear a sound or something. I am waking him up all the time saying "honey, did you hear that"? Of course he says "no" and looks at me like I'm crazy lol  ;D I hear knocking noises and always think someone is trying to break in or vandalize or something....hmmm...very enlightening!

I've had some funny things happen with misunderstandings as well, but cannot think of a single one right now...maybe tomorrow! Thanks again everyone for the funny's  ;D

Even though I hear VERY funny stuff ALL the time, a couple of nights ago there was a HUGE gas line explosion about 10 miles from us.  Apparently you could hear the explosion, feel the ground shake and see it from a LONG way off...me?...I slept thru the whole thing!

The first few days after surgery I "heard" electrical sounds and weird violin and organ music in my non-hearing ear.   ???

Today I was on the phone when my baby started crying, and I thought for a second "Why do they(was on the phone with insurance) have a baby in their office?" It sounded like the crying was coming through the phone!

Speaking of things we think we hear, my daughter has become a dog whisperer. She is constantly yelling at him to be quiet. He is NOT making a sound but she keeps saying he is crying, wimpering. It's pretty bad actually. This has been going on since her first surgery in December 2008!!

Husband in the other room:  "Oh, you're going to New York too early, if you had waited until my birthday you could have gone walking with dying lawyers."
ME:  "Why on EARTH would I want to go walking with dying lawyers...what does that even mean anyway??"
Husband, laughing, still in the other room:  "NO, walking with Diane Sawyer"
ME:  *pause* "I could go walking with Diane Sawyer??"
Husband, finally coming into the room with me:  "I said, 'Walking with DINOSAURS!'"

I guess there was some kind of exhibit or show or something he saw on TV.  The first time I didn't really hear him, but the second time I could have sworn he said Diane Sawyer.  Pretty funny to me.   ;D

That is funny!   ;D

My "funniest" happened earlier this week while driving...I kept hearing road noise much worse than I have ever heard it in my van.  I even checked to make sure the door was shut good.  I thought, "Well, this van is getting some years on it - what can I expect?"  It was even louder when I got on the expressway...

Later (don't know how long this went on...day or days), I was waiting to pick the girlies up from school and was looking out the passenger side window - it was then that I noticed that window was down about a 1/2 inch.  Since I am deaf on that side, I guess the sound was kind of wrapping around.  It was loud enough that it bothered me, but of course, I couldn't tell where it was coming from!!  LOL!!   ;D

Kay ~

Recently I told my wife that I thought there was a noise coming from the right side of one of our cars...probably the brakes.  She asked if I was sure.  I thought about it a moment and then I realized that to me, everything sounds as if it's coming from 'the right side.'  That's the side my functioning ear is on!

For SSD folks, the fact that both specific as well as ambient sounds will seem to be on our 'good' side is simply a fact of life.  Not really a major problem as long as we remain cognizant of this reality.

These are way too funny....and altogether too true!!   We have a new refrigerator.  I knew the sounds of the old one...but the new one's sounds are different.  It likes to "defrost itself" early in the morning...(which is when my symptoms seem to be at their strongest).  We also have a cat, who, from time to time, leaves us a "present" in the form of a hairball!  The noise is approximately the same....As I was searching the house for the cat because it sounded like she was "coughing", my husband reminded me that the refrigerator probably wasn't going to give us a "hairball", so I could stop looking!

When I first started reading this discussion I didn't think I was 'hearing' stange things. But the last few days whenever I am in the kitchen by myself, I think I hear my dog gagging  like she is going to throw up. So I keep turning around to check on her and she looks at me like "Hey, what's your problem?" It's so weird!

This is the first time I have read this thread.  Way to funny!!!  I see quite a bit  of me in the posts.  Right after surgery I was talking to a friend on the phone & I heard a dog barking.  Asked her who was barking & she said YOUR dog!  No way!!  It was coming through the phone.
I also hear water running in the early early AM, have to run to the BR!!!!  That is the only time I hear water.  Right after I go to bed I hear talking, can't quite make it out.  Still haven't figured that out.

Happy Trails,
Lynn

Might as well keep the thread going.  Lots of laughs.    I had an incident of mis hearing during one of my hearing tests.  I m sure some of you can relate.  There was an actual women giving me the test behind the window.   She said,   say the word  !!!!!!!.     I started to say it and then realized,   I can't say that.   I remember looking at her thru the window with a blank stare on my face.   She kept saying ,   say the word !!!!!!!!.    I didn't know if I should just make something up or what.   I didn't want to guess wrong.    Finally after about ten times she moved on.   I was looking for the candid camera.  I never did find out nor could I figure out  the word she wanted me to say.    Ironically , I thought my hearing was pretty good up to that point.

                                                                                                                                           Bryan

We live in an avocado grove with hills. Somebody yells my name and I have no idea where it's coming from. I stand in one spot turning round and round really slowly, trying to figure it out. This usually gives everyone watching a bit of a laugh. With my wide footed stance and quizzical expression I look kind of like a puppet dangling and slowly circling. No, they aren't being mean - you just gotta laugh, otherwise???

Boy do I know that feeling.  I get that a lot when I am getting out of my car and someone calls out my name. I have no idea where they are calling me from and I haplessly keep turning around trying to find who is calling me and I feel like I am in a slapstick comedy.

This is a twist on the topic at hand.

Yesterday I was at the health club and decided to start out by walking on the track to warm up.  I pulled my iPod out of my pocket, stuck my single ear bud into my ear and started walking.  No sound  :(

I fiddled with the mono adapter thinking it wasn't in the socket correctly.  Still no sound  :(

I checked to see if the sound on the iPod was turned down.  It wasn't.

I checked to see if I had it on pause.  I didn't.

Then I realized that I'd stuck the ear bud into my left ear.  BINGO!!!

I promptly removed it and placed it in my right one - you know, the one that can actually hear  ::)

Boy did I feel stupid  :D

Duh!!

hi- i guess we've all had our share of mishears. this past christmas i had a good one:( my husband works in the medical field)we were at a restaurant and i asked him what he wanted for christmas. he told me he could use some new scrubcaps. well i thought he said hubcaps! i asked him how was i supposed to pick them out? he said he thought i would be great at that. our conversation went on for a bit like a "whose on first" session until i asked him why he even needed them anyway when his car was brand new? lol...yeah, we do this kind of thing alot! i love reading about everyone elses oops too though.
i also hear phantom noises and when my good ear is in the pillow, i hear running water all the time. that took me awhile to get used to-i kept thinking we were having a flood from a pipe or something!

I was recently answering a patient's call bell at work and she asked for "A cup of oysters with ice."

I was thinking "What kind of place does she think this is!  ??? We don't have any oysters." When I asked her to repeat herself, and gave myself a minute to comprehend it, I figured out it was "A cup of orange juice with ice", which made a lot more sense!

I am always having someone yell at me across a parking lot or some such, then having to turn in circles looking for them. Then they'll try and direct me - turn this way, on your right, no, the other right... - hilarious. And once I hung up the phone on my husband because he wouldn't talk to me even though I said hello like five times. Yeah, had the phone to the wrong ear.
I have discovered an awesome side to theis one-sided deafness, though. I have a young son who was just past his frst birthday when I had surgery and has always (still to this day) been a terrible sleeper. I was constantly up and down with him during his first year. Now, if my goos ear is turned into thw pillow, then 9 times out of 10, I don't hear him. Hubby has to get him. Haha, your turn now, honey!!!

I have always used my left ear to listen to the phone. My right ear is deaf from the surgery. I was lying on the couch one night on my left side and the phone rang. Just because of the position I was in, I put the phone up to my right ear, not  even remembering I was deaf. I said hello several times and nobody answered...said hello again, no answer, and as I was hanging up the phone, I told my wife there was no one on the phone. The phone rang again right away, and it was my neighbor, who I had just hung up on...and I remembered I am SSD. There is some small humor in all of this!

Yep, I've been known to hang up the phone when I think that no one is on the other end - only to realize that I've got the phone held up to my deaf ear.  And, I have perfected the "Swhwanomma Spin" - when someone calls out my name, followed by "over here."  Duh.

Pretty funny stuff.

My latest hearing incident was while cleaning out my mother-in-laws house. We took a break for lunch and my sister-in-law handed me a plate of food and asked me if I would like a fly swatter with that. I said no, wondering the whole time why I would want that. Then as she handed my husband a plate I heard her again, this time I heard it correctly. Would you some ICE WATER with that. I burst out laughing and then had to explain to everyone else what was so funny.

The other night I went into a 7-11 to get some chewing gum for my husband. As I walk in the door, I said to the clerk, "How ya doin?"

I heard her reply, "Do you know you're exposing yourself?"
I immediately wonder if my shirt had popped open, or if my fly was unzipped. I checked both, and was fine, so I said to her "I'm sorry, I didn't hear what you said", she then repeated what she had originally said which was "I'm doing fine... and yourself"?

Had a good laugh yesterday when our 5 1/2 year old granddaughter asked me, "Grandma, did you ring the doorbell when I was born?"  I looked at her with a very puzzled look and I asked, "Ring the doorbell???"  At this point my husband began to chuckle and said, "No Dear, she asked 'did you think she was adorable?'"

Great thread.  I sometimes will have the TV on and will hear such weird background noise WITH the TV that no one else hears.  That will also happen to me occasionally on the phone.  I DO hear things and sounds and voices that are not really there.  No one else knows what I am talking about.  And I do NOT have tinnitus, but have all the other things that may go with it!

I loved reading this.  Before my surgery, I used to hear music or chanting...almost like American Indian songs.  Since my surgery, I haven't heard it.  When it first started, I had just built a new home.  I tend to have the ability to sense things and wrote it off to that.  I figured there had probably been an Indian village at some time on the land where my house had been built.  Just figured the Lord was messing with my mind again.  Now, I realize that I started experiencing some AN symptoms about the same time that I started hearing the music.  Interesting...very interesting!

OK, this is really weird: sometimes when I have a fan or bathroom exhaust on it seems like I can faintly hear music in the background. It could be a pop song or an orchestra but it is faintly in the background. When I turn the fan or exhaust off it disappears!

I was driving my daughter to a friend's house the other day and the radio was on.  I don't know the name of the name of the song that was playing on the radio, but I asked my daughter why someone was singing a song about a cheese steak.  It turned out the singer was saying "G6" not cheese steak.    We both got a good laugh out of it.   :D

Lynn,
Sometimes when I am around loud noise or music, I get feedback in my BAHA.  I do have a music setting and need to remember to turn it to that third setting when I am in a movie or the theater.  That somehow prevents the feedback I get.  I was actually on a date last weekend (rare occurrence!) and we were in a movie.  As the suspense music got louder, so did the feedback noise on my BAHA.  The man I was with was looking around to see where the screeching was coming from!  I tried to wait til it was noisy and then I changed the setting, and it often screeches louder as I am changing the setting because I am touching the processor.  How do you say to someone you don't know well that you have to fix this box on your head or take it off!!!!!!  ??? ??? ::) ;D

Dale that is to funny.  Excuse me while I adjust my box!!!!!  Gotta smile.  I am hoping to get a BAHA as my insurance has changed.  The request to the insurance co. should go in next week.  Then my deaf ear will have a reason to screech!!!

Last night, my middle daughter said, "Mom, when do we stop using our teeth?"

I replied, "When you die!!  You always need your teeth..."  She looked at me funny... she had actually said, "When do we stop LOSING our teeth??"  (she's lost 3 in less than a week and this Tooth Fairy is TIRED of staying up!!!!!)

Sounds like our kids listen to the same station, but in different cities (if that makes sense).

I can't stand that song and my daughter knows that.  Maybe next time it's on the car radio, I'll start singing about a cheese steak just to annoy her  >:D

Jan,

I'm glad to have given you an idea on how to annoy your daughter.  God knows they do things just to annoy us sometimes -- I guess the shoe will be on the other foot, unless she just thinks you're weird.  My daughter laughed about my thinking the song was about cheese steak, but also told me I was weird.

Of course we talk to kitties!      I talk to my grandkitties.       Any teenager thinks their mom is weird.     Been there, done that.     I kid our daughter of what she has to look forward to.                  My almost 4 granddaughter told me I am old the other day when looked at age spots on my hand.   And when you're old, you die!     I made sure she knew I wasn't that old!

My kids have always thought I was weird.  When I first got the SSD, they would tease me by calling my name, knowing I would have to turn in circles to see where they were calling from.  They were both young adults and living out of the house by then.  As the years have gone by, they still find things to tease me about, but are a little more accepting of who I am.  All in due time!

I was putting groceries away in the garage refrigerator. The door to the house was open. Someone asked me a question and I thought it was someone in the house. Without turning around, I answered and the conversation continued like that for a few minutes. When I finally took my head out of the fridge and turned around, my next door neighbor was standing in my garage with her 3 dogs and an odd look on her face. I hadn't even turned around to acknowledge her!

I'm an easy target for a mugger, I guess! ;)

I can't believe I haven't posted my poem on here, before this.  It was on the Forum at one time, probably deleted by now or buried deep in the archives.  This came about a couple of years ago when the phantom sounds were driving me nuts.  I would wake up, on occasion, to the sound of a doorbell.  Nobody there.  Now, my aunt says she has heard that too, and she has no AN, so maybe it's just a random brain thing.  I heard a radio softly playing somewhere, like it was on a talk radio station.  The bathroom fans played me harp music.  Everything that people have said on this thread, I have had experience with too.  So, one morning, after the doorbell incident, I said to myself, I hear doorbells and there's no one there.  Saying that brought to mind this old song.  You can go to this link and hear the music and have your own karaoke thing going on, if you want.  Original title (I wonder why) You're Just in Love, by Irving Berlin, 1950.  My apologies, Mr. Berlin.  ;)   This is actually supposed to be a duet, with one person singing the first part and one person singing the second part at the same time.  I keep thinking that there should be a Talent Show at the next symposium and two of you could belt this out for one and all.  ;D ;D

http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/lyrics/hearsinging.htm

I Hear Doorbells

I hear doorbells and there's no one there
I hear music but I know not where,
All day long there's buzzing in the air
I wonder why? I wonder why?
I hear noises in my head all day,
And what's more, it doesn't go away
Sounds that used to never bother me
They sound so loud to me, I wonder why?

You don't need analyzin'
It is not so surprisin'
That you hear everything you hear
Your brain hears pitter-patter
I know just what's the matter
Because I've been there, too, my dear
In your head you've got a tumor
Yes it's real, it's not a rumor,
Those AN's bring on a symphony
There is nothing you can take
We might as well commiserate,
Because it’s the same for you and me.

Over the past 5 years in my AN ear every so often I have a few days of chimes blended in with broken glass? Believe it or not it dosn`t sound too bad but I still rather not hear it. The "white noise" has been part of me for as long as I can remember (30yrs.+) more so on AN side. I guess we can adjust to anything, Mickey

OK...so I wanted to tell a "funny" that I heard today (& went back & read this whole thread thru and just laughed & laughed again!) but it gave me the red warning that it hadn't been posted on in over 120 days.  I thought that it had...did I start another thread about this same thing?  Of course, I guess 120 days is really only about 4 months - really not THAT long!!

While driving this afternoon, this kind of putty colored Suburban turned in front of me,

Addi: "Those cars always remind me of hippo's..."  *OK, I am sure you think as I thought this was where I was hearing her wrong...*

Me: "HIPPOS?  Really?"

Addi: "Yeah, a hippo...they are just long and comfy..."  *O-K-K-K...*

a few minutes later...

Me: "So how are hippos 'long & comfy'?"

Addi: "WHAT? They aren't COMFY..."
Me: "You said that they were COMFY..."

Addi: "I said CLUMPY!!"

OK...there you have it...didn't hear what I thought wrong but still heard the wrong thing none the less...   ;)

I have to say I loved all the posts too funny! I always mishear what people are saying to me. Just today my husband was in the kitchen talking to my daughter who can not talk yet...

Richard: (what I thought I heard) I like your cancer dear!
Me: WHAT?! what did you just say to Eva?

Richard: I SAID I LIKE HER PANTS! you know her stockings!!
Me: oh  :-[

My hubs always makes fun of me. I am always hearing strange things also, but my least fav. is this ringing that comes and goes... can not stand it.

Whenever I get down or frustrated, I go back to this thread and reread it.  Its a hoot!  I'm constantly messing up things to my son's great amusement.  First it was my hearing (either phantom noises or wrong words), but now I've got this cognitive mix up going on too because of the extreme fatigue.  So here are two recent funnies to add to the list:

#1
I keep hearing my husband's cell phone going off.  Because he uses it for business it's important that calls get answered.  So each time I say in an urgent voice, "honey, honey... your cell is ringing."  He runs around the house trying to get it on time... or he nearly swerves off the road while driving and trying to get it out of his pocket.  After a few times when it obviously wasn't going off <but I was hearing it> he then decided to not check it the next time.  And wouldn't you know it... next time comes around and I again say, "honey its your phone" to which he says "oh no, not falling for the phantom noise in your head again"... but this this time it I was right and he missed an important client call.   We both laughed so hard.  He now calls me the girl that cried wolf!

#2
Buying father's day card for 12yr old son to give his dad.  Should have taken him with me because when I brought out the card, oh so proud that I helped him not forget to do this nice gesture for his dad, he read it and looked at me quizically and said... "mom, this card is for a girl".  "No its not" I said... determined I was right because I had read that dang card at least 5 times in the store to make sure it was just perfect.  So I take the card, read it, and see that it is from a daughter to her dad ON HIS BIRTHDAY!  We laughed until we almost pee'd our pants.

OK, here's one...as a resident of Long Island, NY the first part of my daily commute to work in NYC is on the Long Island Rail Road.  As our train was arriving in Manhattan I heard the annoucement of the conductor on the train's PA, 'the sensation is in the pasta.'   I had to think about this for a moment as I wondered what the intention of this statement was.  Then I realized what was really announced was, 'this is Penn Station, the final stop.'

I love this thread!   Reminds me of one of my funnier "mis-hearing" moments.   The hubs and I were watching American Idol earlier this year and at one point the camera panned the crowd and Ryan Seacrest said "there are all the stink bombs."  What?  I turned to the hubs and asked if he found that to be a bit offensive and insensitive?  He looked puzzled, so I repeated what I'd heard.  After the hubs got done laughing, he told me that Ryan had said "there are all the stage moms."   Stink bombs ... stage moms, whatever. ;D

I love this topic. My friends are sad that I will be activated (BAHA) soon because their SSD clown will be able to hear again.

I was waiting for surgery and it was taking forever. The doc finally came in to explain that he was waiting for radiology to send over the CT scan of my temporal bones because he didn't want to "barrel into your skull" without them.

He walked out and my friend said, "that's good, huh?"

But I was confused. I wanted to know why the doctor was waiting for Daryl hall to call. Hahahhahaaaa

We were driving in our vehicle the other day on a trip. Our youngest has three McDonald's all big alien monsters. They come in all kinds of colours.

I'm a police officer so when he said 'Rush, catch up and Bust her' I was wondering what he'd seen that I didn't...

Then my Husband said, the toys are green red and yellow, you know 'relish, ketchup and mustard'.

On a funnier note, that makes me laugh every single time until I cry...my husband took my kids out for dinner one day a few weeks ago to a place called East Side Marios. Their tag line is "badda boom badda bing" My husband has been having difficulty with his eyesight as he ages, and he didn't have his glasses with him. He will often squint and read menus.

So when it comes time for desert he says to the waitress, 'we'd like to try the Buddha Fingers'....she looks at him funny. My daughter says Daaaaadddd...and when he points at it on the menu the waitress says, 'it's Budda Bingers Sir'

Now I always ask him if he'd like some 'Buddha Fingers' when he makes fun of my hearing issues.

I'm loving this thread too!  I was looking for a thread to tell my story too!

Last night we went to dinner with my husband's family, his parents (my in-laws), his sister, brother-in-law and nephew.  I was not really looking forward to the dinner, don't really get along well with my sister-in-law.

I was sitting between my daughter and husband (he was sitting on my AN side).  I need to preface this by saying that I have lost some hearing on my right side, and my daughter make fun of me because I can't always hear everything correctly).  After dinner my husband leaned back in his chair and said quietly (or so I heard) "DINNER WITH SCHMUCKS".  I told him I agreed, though was surprised he said that.  He replied by whispering to me "Honey, I said I'M STUFFED!"

I was on the way with to meet with my ENT surgeon last year with my mother, grandmother, and aunt when someone's cell phone started going off.  It rang a few times and nobody made a move to get their phone, so finally I asked, "Isn't somebody going to answer their phone??"  Everyone kind of looked at me weird and my aunt said, "Um, Jamie, that's YOUR phone."  For some reason I still always keep my phone in my right pocket even though that's my deaf side.  Oh well.   :P
