My Surgery Eve is finally here. I know today is going to fly coz I have a ton of things to do! One of which is to treat myself to a pedicure. ;D I know I won't look the greatest post op, but at least my toes will look pretty! ;D My surgeon (Dr. Porter) is a Christian and he prays with his patients before they are put to sleep. That is such a comfort to me. My best friend (Barbara S.) will be posting updates on here as soon she is able. I am so very thankful for this forum. I am a bit nervous of course but not like I thought I would be. I believe what is keeping me at peace about this is my wonderful support system that I have. My bf keeps me strong and this forum has just been so encouraging to me. Such wonderful people on this site! We all have at least three things in common....we all have AN's (of course), we have compassion for eachother and we all are strong throughout our AN experience. I really want to stress how thankful I am for this forum. I will be in touch later today. Gotta go work on my "to do list"!

Hello Laura,
We will be praying for a great outcome and quick recovery for you as well! I think it's great that your surgeon says a prayer with you too! I'm heading off to work soon, but will be looking forward to updates after your surgery.

Be strong Laura. Before you know it it will be over. Sleep well - during surgery I had the wildest dreams. One was a design of a tattoo for myself (I am getting it this Saturday). I wish you well.
Let us know how you are doing when you can.
Hugs Michelle ;D

I like that your doc prays with his patients prior to surgery. Very nice touch 8)
See you on the flip-side ;D

Laura ~
I think it's wonderfully comforting for a person of faith who is about to be anathematized and operated on, to have their surgeon, not only be of the same faith, but to pray with the patient. You're very fortunate in that regard. My surgeon never shared his faith with me but when the surgery was proven successful and I thanked him (profusely) he smiled and said that God deserved the thanks, not him. As a Christian, I was very pleasantly surprised and agreed with him but also stated that I thought he did his part, too. He just smiled and said "I guess so". Good man.
Thanks for your kind words about this forum. Know that many people will be thinking of you, sending good vibes your way and praying for you tonight and tomorrow. I'll be one of them. :)

Laura dear,
Your day is here! As I shared with you on the phone, I pray for you every day. I know you will be strong.
I am looking forward to visiting you at Barrow N.I. in a few days!!
Fondly,
Brenda
P.S. to everyone else: Laura and I have become close AN friends because we share the same doctors and the same facility, Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix. I'll follow her translab with my own in a few weeks! Laura will be such a big help to me as I prepare for mine! Thank you Laura!

Wonderful . . . then Laura can pass the scarf and journal on to Brenda perhaps?
We've PMed a bunch, so Laura has all the knowledge and encouragement that I am able to impart and the power of the Magic Scarf. Great surgeons are the final ingredient.
See you on the other side, Laura.

I just love hearing forum stories like this one. It's one thing to connect on the forum, but the ability to be physically there for another AN patient is just so incredible to me. It always reminds me for the great group in LA (David, Nancy, Lainie, - did I forget anyone?) who take the time to meet newbies who are having surgery at House.
I hope this is just the beginning of a great friendship full of love and support for you and Laura.
Wishing you both the best,
Jan

Laura,
We'll be thinking of you tomorrow and looking forward to the updates from Barbara.
I'm glad you've got Brenda close by, too. There's something very special about AN friendships. (I saw my AN friends today - they're the best.)
Sending lots of prayers and good vibes your way,
Nancy L
P.S. - Thanks, Jan. :)

Laura,
I agree, that's great about your doctor praying for you. I'll be praying for you too! I know the prayers of my friends / family of my church sustained me throughout the whole waiting for diagnosis, decision process, waiting for surgery, surgery, recovery, etc. We look forward to hearing from you as a postie. And seeing fashionable pics with your head dress and fancy AN scarf!

As a Christian, I am in awe of surgeons who pray with their patients. You, as a team, have truly put everything in God's hands. Bless you, Laura.
