Title: putting a photo on your forum profile
Post by: teffaz on April 10, 2009, 05:22:04 pm
Steve and Ernie, thank you for your advice on putting a photo in a profile on this forum!  It took a little work because I'm a novice at such things, but I got it to work!!
Teff (Brenda)

This is Steve's advice:

You have to upload the picture to a public web site. Many here use http://www.photobucket.com. Click the green Join Now button - it really is free. I think you have to give them an email address and get a confirmation; don't give them anything else.

Once you have an account, you can upload your picture onto their site. Then you get the link for your picture by clicking the box labeled Direct Link. It should show another little box that says Copied. Now go back to your forum profile, and paste into the URL box for your picture.

This is Ernie's advice:

I know on my laptop, just clicking on the Direct Link does not give me the box that says Copied.  I actually have to highlight it and copy it with CTRL-C or by right clicking and selecting copy.  On the main PC, it works as Steve said.  Very strange indeed.

You did get it to work, and you look great!  Still scheduled for the 28th of May?  My birthday is the 27th :).

Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd chime in.  Steve helped me also (thanks again Steve).  Another tip, is to make sure the photo you upload is square to start with, then it won't look stretched or squeezed.  Nancy McDonald, who is doing great by the way, gave me that advise.

Nice to see some more profile pics. :)

Teff (Brenda),  I see a new member called Teff hubbie registered. Any relation?  ;)

Steve, you should be charging for all this advice; you'd make a fortune - and it would go a long way towards yarn  ;)  :D

Good to see you guys!  I love profile pictures  ;D

Thanks,

Jan

Steve,
You guessed it! Yes, Teff hubbie, recently registered, has been my best friend (and husband) for almost 39 years. He's getting ready to post when I won't quite be up to it in a few weeks.

Brenda (Teff)

P.S. How does one copy a quote from another post on this forum and get it to go into that tiny purple box at the top of a new post????

I can answer that one for you.

Just go to the post you want to quote (upper right hand side of the post box) and click on the quote button.

It will open a reply box for you with the quote at the top in purple.

Thanks, Jan, but I have another question for you. I was able to put all of your post in the purple box, but how does one put only a portion of another's post in the little purple box? I tried highlighting the desired sentence, then selecting "quote." I tried selecting "quote," then editing the purple box in the "preview" mode. Neither worked. I know the answer must be simple, but I cannot figure it out.

Teff -

once you get the quote in your reply box - like you just did with your last post - you can edit it just like you edit your own typing.

For example, if you want to delete a sentence from the quote, just click at the end of the sentence and backspace.

When you're done editing it, it's always helpful to preview it before you post.

Thanks, I have tried that and it works. I realized what I was doing wrong was deleting the top line which is essential ("quote from..."). However, when I wanted to write my own text, as I am doing now, it was put into the little purple box. How do I separate my text from the quoted text? I know I must be having a brain lock. I should do this when I'm feeling better!

I think you are deleting too much - or adding your own text inside the quote area.

As you say, it's essential to leave the top line ("quote from...")

But it's equally essential to leave this [/quote] at the end of the quote, before you starting typing your response.

AAAHHH!!  I think I have it now, thanks to you, Jan, and your infinite patience!

Congratulations on your first annual MRI results!

Have a good night.

Congratulations on your first annual MRI results!

Actually my first annual MRI was last April - the 2nd one is next week - so I'll just apply that congratulations to my 2nd scan since I'm expecting nothing less than a clean MRI  ;)

Glad you got the whole quote thing figured out; sounds like you have more patience that I do.
