Hi All,
I got a message from DLM4me's husband about 5 PM today. He hadn't been in to see her yet, but had just spoken to the doctors and wanted to give us a quick update. The docs said the surgery went well (yeah!) and he'd be able to go in and visit her in about an hour. I'll post again as soon as I hear any more news.
Congrats DLM4me - we're sending lots of healing vibes your way!
Thankful for another safe arrival in Postie-ville,
Nancy L

Hi Everyone,
I spoke to Doug (DLM4me's husband) yesterday while they were waiting for her to be transferred to a private room. He said she was doing great. Since she had a middle fossa and her hearing nerve was preserved, the docs tried some basic tests to see exactly what she could hear on the AN side. She was able to hear all the sounds they made on that side, but they'll know more after any swelling goes down.
He said she had a very slight paralysis, which she described as a "novocaine feeling" that made it a little difficult to sip out of a straw - but she was in great spirits, laughing and joking around.
Sounds like she's pretty happy to be a postie. :)
-
Nancy ~
The good news just keeps on coming! Thanks for the update.
Jim

Great news! Keep the updates coming! That's great that she's doing well and it appears that her hearing was spared. Pass along that we're thinking of her and continued healing.
Regards,
Brian

Okay, if she is over the surgery and doing pretty well, it is time to ask the question that is on everyone's mind.
What does DLM4me really mean? I think it sounds like the license plate of an inveterate card player, myself. ;D
And best wishes to postie DLM4me, too.
Steve
-
Fantastic news! Wow, so many great surgeries the last couple of months eh??? Hope that gives people awaiting their surgery date a good feeling!
Everyone is rocking it!
-
AWESOME news. I know she was worried. Here's to a good recovery :)

Hi DLM4me,
As the others have said, it sounds like another successful surgery. That's fantastic ;D ;D
Hope you have a comfortable and speedy recovery,
Rich & Scarlett
P.S. Thank you for the updates Nancy, they're very much appreciated ;)

Dave used to always type "KLT4me" before we married - my intials for him!! I didn't think anything about it at all!! ;D

Hi All,
I spoke to DLM4me this morning and she sounded great. She does have some facial weakness, which the docs say will be temporary, and she was a little surprised by some double vision last night and this morning. But she is extremely upbeat, and very relieved to have finally been properly diagnosed and have the surgery behind her.
She appreciates all your support and well-wishes. (K - you cracked her up with your hokey-pokey comment. :D And Steve, I found out the origin of her username, but I'll let her tell you herself. ;))
She may be going home tomorrow, so hopefully you'll be hearing from her sometime soon.
Nancy
-
Wahoooooo Great news!
Thanks Nancy for the updates. Let her know we are sending healing vibes her way.
Hugs Michelle ;D

And Steve, I found out the origin of her username, but I'll let her tell you herself. ;))
I can't wait to hear what DLM4me means - I've been wondering since she joined us.
Glad to hear she's going to be going home soon.
Thanks for the update, Nancy ;D
Jan

Thanks Nancy we really appreciate you keeping us updated :)
Glad to hear that she's in good spirits, and will be going home soon.
Keeping her in our thoughts for a speedy recovery,
Rich & Scarlett

Sounds as though we have the same symptoms resulting from surgery on the same day . . . facial weakness and double vision. I wonder if we should track same day surgery outcomes? ;D
My DV is gone. Working on FW. Dressing off today up at Mom's. It will be nice to sleep without the lump.
Great news!
N
-
Excuse the hijack, but I just had to say I'm so glad your double vision is gone, Nancy. I know from experience how aggravating it is.
Is the dressing in question the one you got post op? I've never heard of anyone wearing theirs so long - mine was removed about 24 hours post op - is this just your doctor's practice? or did I miss something along the way that required you to wear it longer?

DHM~
I felt really bad about the Hokey Pokey comment after I did it - I hoped it didn't come across insensitive! However, NOW I am kind of proud of it - maybe it can be the official Acoustic Neuroma Dance!! :D
K
-
Jan,
When I asked to be discharged on day 3 post-op, they said they like to keep the pressure on for 4 to 5 days. I told them my mom is a retired physician and loves gory stuff and would be pleased to remove it on Monday. They said Fine!
I'm glad for the loss of double vision, too. Now I can begin the vestibular exercises, some wonky headedness is becoming evident.
Nancy

Hi Nancy,
I'm so glad that you're doing well and your double vision is gone. I'll pass the news on to DLM4me - hopefully she'll be right behind you with her progress.
And K, seriously...she LOVED it. ;D

Silly girl! Don't you know that the official AN Dance is the "Bobblehead Strut?" ;D
Glad you got your headwrap off, Nancy, and welcome home!

Dear DLM & Nancy,
So glad to hear that you are both doing well! Keep us posted during your recovery!
Kathy

Personally, Kaybo, I thought the hokey-pokey comment was hilarious ;D
I was just sorry I didn't think of it. Of course if I would have, Lori would have found a way to take credit for it ;) :D
Nancy -
it must have been great growing up with a mom who likes gory stuff - puts me to shame :-[ as I'm a mom who would rather bypass that kind of stuff :P
I remember the mastoid bandage being so tight I was immensely thankful it was removed on day 2. Kudos to you for sporting yours so long. Glad that's over with ;D
Jan

I thought the hokey-pokey comment was hilarious ;D
That is EXACTLY what DLM4me said today!
In fact, she wanted me to let you know that while doing the side steps the PT was giving her today, she was trying very hard to actually do the hokey-pokey. ;)
I went to see her at the hospital today - we laughed that she had the exact same room I did eight months ago. The room has a great view of the sunset and the Hollywood sign (and the most strangely designed bathroom you've ever seen). But she'll be staying there another day so the docs can do a CT scan due to an increase in her post-op symptoms: dizzyness, facial weakness, and double vision.
She still has an incredibly upbeat and positive attitude, and appreciates your support AND humor more than you know. :)
-
That's great! Same room! I was thinking about calling the MGH Neuro ICU today to send Steve well wishes and compare notes.
I had increased symptoms post-op and didn't get a CT scan. :'( Tell her double vision will be gone very soon. The rest perhaps a little (I hope) longer?
Time for 'roids.
Nancy

Time for 'roids.
Nancy
Is that STEroids or HEMORRHoids? :)
I couldn't resist!
Signed,
Jan
-
Believe me, that's not even funny right now.
JB suggested an antidote in AU that helped her. I'm googling it right now to call on-call nurse for rx this AM.
-
I'm glad DLM is going for the Hokey Pokey and is enjoying that comment so much! I'll have to see if I can come up with something else from the wacky world of little girls!!
Hope today is better and you do get to go home!!
K

I thought the hokey-pokey comment was hilarious ;D
That is EXACTLY what DLM4me said today!
Sounds like she's a girl after my own heart! ;D Any chance she'll make it to the symposium? Lori, Kaybo, and I could use humor like that :D
Freaky about having the same room as you :o
Ernie! :( Stop trying to get me in trouble!! :( Lori is going to be so upset that you are taking her job away! ;) :D
I bet you picked on your sisters as kids. Right???
Jan - the REAL one
-
I just spoke to DLM4me - the CT was fine and she's going home! ;D
She hopes to be back here in a few days to fill you all in firsthand - between naps, of course. :)
(And Steve - she said to check her avatar for a clue on her username. ;))
Nancy
-
Great news!
I can't quite make it out. She's in someplace with a Happy Time graphic in the background? Disneyland? I don't know . . . too tired to work it out at this point. I haven't been there since the '50s!
G'night, All.
Nancy
-
Thanks for the update, Nancy.
There's no place like home.
I'm sure DLM4me would agree ;D

Brian,
Are you on steroids?
Nancy
-
Brian,
Some great options if she ever wants to change the meaning! :D But yes, it's in your top ten. ;D
Nancy
-
Brian -- Like Nancy L. said -- you got it. Now guess which one. She obviously has a sense of humor. But as Nancy M asked, are you on steroids?
-
Haha.. Google is such a wonderful thing. That list took me about 2 seconds to put together. So, to answer the question, no I'm not on steriods (or anything else for that matter). :)
So, we've narrowed down to:
DLM Distributed Lock Manager (Oracle Parallel Server)
DLM Dead Like Me (TV series)
DLM Dorothy Lane Market (Ohio grocery chain)
DLM Document Lifecycle Management
DLM Digital Landscape Model
DLM Depot Level Maintenance
DLM Dynamic Linear Model
DLM Dominica Liberation Movement
DLM Data Lifecycle Manager
DLM Data Line Monitor
Knowing what I do know about DLM, then I would have to choose (in this order):
DLM Document Lifecycle Management
DLM Distributed Lock Manager (Oracle Parallel Server)
DLM Dorothy Lane Market (Ohio grocery chain)
Those are my top 3 choices in order.
How close am I?
This is fun!
Brian
-
OOOOHHH! A mystery!
I vote for Dorothy Lane Market - just because I've never heard of it and like the sound of it.
Am I right??? BTW, what is the prize? A hat knit by Steve?
-
Hey Brian --you're getting there.
-
Based on the microscopic avatar picture, it has to be
Dead Like Me
Steve
-
OMG, Steve!
Are you trying to tell us that you've knitted yourself to death? (GASP) :o
So I see from Pooter's post that Dead Like Me is a TV series. I'm lost here; someone elaborate, please.
Jan
-
Sounds like STEVE watches it, so what's the scoop, mad hatter? Hope it's a comedy.

Plot Summary: "Meet Georgia Lass (who prefers to be called George). She is a young Seattle college dropout who is unhappy with life. She is always at odds with her mom, Joy. One day coming back from her temp job as a filing clerk, she is hit by the toliet seat of the re-entering Space Station Mir. Finding out she is now dead, she is recruited to become a grim reaper. As in life, she is a pain in the butt in death. She does not like the details of her job, and is always at loggerheads with her boss Rube. Her fellow grim reapers don't really take much of a liking to her either. She also learns grim reapers don't even get a free ride in death, as they must hold down regular jobs along with their death duties. Written by Pat McCurry {laraspal00@aol.com} " (Found here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0348913/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0348913/))
It apparently was a series in 2003-2004. I never saw it.
If it's not any of the ones said, I'll go with "Data Lifecycle Manager".
Am I right? :)
Regards,
Brian
-
Brian,
You need to win something for all your effort! ;D
Maybe she'll change it to "Data Lifecycle Manager" ;), but for the time being (at least until she reads this and sees her other options), the answer was in that oh-so-tiny avatar.
Steve, I don't know how you managed to see it - I knew what it was and still couldn't see it in that tiny pic.
So does this mean Steve has to knit himself an extra hat as a prize? ;)
Nancy
-
Ok, you're all on steroids. Now that we have that out of the way, I vote for Dorothy Lane Market. Because I live in Ohio.
Marci
-
I think we lost, Marci :'(
Pooter -
is that seriously the plot?? Sounds like something you just made up ::) Now I know why I never watch TV :D
Jan

Steve, I don't know how you managed to see it - I knew what it was and still couldn't see it in that tiny pic.
I blew it up a little, then decided which of Pooter's top ten DLM acronyms fit the red lettering:

I'm thinking that's a compliment ???
Good detective work, Steve ;D

I didn't even think she had a picture - did she put it up from the OR??
K
-
DLHM4me,
When you are feeling up to it, please, end this misery we are enduring guessing ;D
What's the real scoop???????
Maureen
-
Moe -
I'm fairly certain that the verdict is already in - and that Steve won.
Kay -
the profile picture was there prior to DLM's surgery. I remember it, just didn't know what it said.
Jan
-
Pooter -
is that seriously the plot?? Sounds like something you just made up ::) Now I know why I never watch TV :D
Jan
Yes, that's really the plot. I got it straight from IMDB, so it MUST be true. :)
I guess I should have thought to copy the picture and blow it up to see it better. It makes more sense with it blown up because I can read it. Before, all I could read was "Happy Time" written in white letters at the top. I thought about Dead Like Me that I didn't want to be morbid in the face of what we're dealing with, which isn't deadly unless left untreated for many years.
Oh well.. Guess I'll have to knit Steve a hat.. Now, where did I put that yarn and those instructions again? ;)
Brian
-
Oh well.. Guess I'll have to knit Steve a hat.. Now, where did I put that yarn and those instructions again? ;)
Brian
Now that is something I'd pay to see ;) If you actually follow through with this task, Pooter, I'll make a donation in your honor to the ANA too.
But I want proof that you actually knit it - like pictures taken by Jenni or something.
BTW, what does "IMDB" stand for??

Thanks, Ernie.
Was unaware of that site. Movies, like TV, aren't really my thing.
I tend to read - or fall victim to my forum addiction ;) :D
