Title: Suprise!
Post by: Pooter on March 27, 2009, 06:23:42 am
Everyone,

I opened my mailbox this morning to get the mail from yesterday (very busy, long story) and guess what I found inside?

How's THAT for a pretty sight to wake up to?!

I feel very honored to have received a one-of-a-kind Steve Original!

Thanks a million Steve!

Regards,
Brian

Nice looking hat there Pooter!

Where does Steve find the time to post on these forums???

Does anyone else think it would be funny to get Steve a new book, like "How to build a nuclear reactor with knitting needles"?

We should probably start a fund to keep Steve in yarn.  Everyone wants one of his hats!  Hey Steve...tells us what kind of yarn to buy and we can send it to you.

Brian,

That's great! You and Steve have shown that his "originals" look good on guys, too!

(OK, since Keri pointed it out - it looks like a steel string and an electric - do you play nylon string, as well?)

And Steve - Someone needs to start a gallery of your work!  ;D

Okay, just have a minute so let me answer some questions real fast..  First, it's Navy Blue, not Black but the lighting wasn't very good for the picture.  I'll post another after my camping weekend.  Second, I was learning guitar up until diagnosis, so I do play kinda..  I actually play accoustic (ironic, eh?) but what you see in the background are my guitars for Rock Band..  Jenni and I LOVE playing that together but rather than fight over who plays guitar (I STINK at drums), I got another so we can both play.  She's actually really good at drums, but likes the guitar (on Rock Band).  I've vowed to pick up my real accoustic again soon since I haven't picked it up since surgery (with some prodding from Cheri that is).  ;)

After looking at the picture again, I look like quite the mountain man in it..

I'll post more pics that better show the color, but for now I'm off to camp with my daughter for the weekend!  Pray for no more rain for us!  With any luck, I'll be horseback riding for the first time since surgery.  Yea!  :)

Regards,
Brian

Enjoy your camping, Brian.  Hope the weather does cooperate - the rain is starting to get to me a bit here...

Can't wait to hear how the horseback riding goes!  Perhaps a picture of that as well???

NICE HAT, Pooter  ;D

Looking good!

Hope the rain stay aways from your camping weekend.  Every time I've camped I've had to deal with rain - must be that little black cloud that keeps following me around  ;)

K -

I offered to pay Steve for my hat too.  If not the yarn, and labor, than at least the postage.  He wouldn't hear of it - just suggested I buy him a drink at the symposium.  When I get a chance, I plan to make a donation to the ANA in his honor.  (Don't worry, Steve, I'll still buy you the drink)

Brian:

Nice hat, sailor!  :)

Unfortunately, I look terrible in a hat of any kind - and absolutely ridiculous in a knit hat.  My wife has made this abundantly clear to me, many times, breaking out in loud laughter whenever I've worn even a baseball cap.  She tells me that "I just don't have the face for a hat".  Remember, this lady loves me and we've been married for almost 39 years.  Well, after seeing photos of myself in caps, I agree.  Thus, I haven't requested one of Steve's creatively knitted chapeaus for that reason, since he has so many requests from folks who look good in and can really appreciate his handiwork....like you.  :)

Looking good!   ;D  I'm sure the hat will come in handy for your camping trip this weekend!

Jim, maybe Steve can make you a scarf.  Or earmuffs?  Maybe socks?

.  First, it's Navy Blue,

After looking at the picture again, I look like quite the mountain man in it..

AAAAARRRRRRR Ye scurvey Son of a Bilge Rat Ye! No mountain man ye! A fine swabbie ye be in a fine watch cap!  Which part of Navy blue don't ye get--the Navy part? Which watch do ye want, 2 bells or 4 bells or 6 bells or 8 bells? AAARRRR!! I always liked the dog watch cuz I got to watch the sun come up over the ocean whilst at the helm, AAARRRRR.  A bit chilly then even in the tropics so thet fine watch cap will come in handy aboard the PBW on her next voyage.  Stock up on the beans, Pooter! Off we go!!

First, it's Navy Blue.

KnitPicks calls it Admiral.  ;D

I think it looks darker in ordinary light than it is in this picture.

That works. The line is getting longish, though. I hesitate to say this to an AN patient, but you'll have to be patient.   ;)

Hey Steve,

I have learned a lot about patience in the past 6 months, so sign me up for cranberry. I know there are lots of well deserving people ahead of me.  I'm good for the wait!

Well, I'm happy to report that I didn't get trampled over the weekend and didn't fall off the horse.  I made it through like a champ.  My daughter, who never ceases to amaze me, did something called the "Screamer" (among many other things).  If you can imagine being harnessed in and attached to a 50 foot rope, then hoisted to the side (still attached to the rope at the top) and then you let go when you're ready to swing; like a big pendulum.  She held on and swung from 50 feet!  Not one, but twice!  And, then, she swung for part of the time with no hands holding on the the rope to which she was attached!  She did a great job!

My feat was hoseback riding for the first time since surgery.  Here, you can see a photo that I snapped just before getting on the horse.  Some of you have asked for a close-up photo to show my progress.  Well, here it is..

It was a busy, but fun weekend..  We shot .22 rifles, bow and arrow, made homemade candles, crafts, the screamer, and horses..  All on Saturday!  Somewhere we fit in breakfast, lunch and dinner in between those things..

Regards,
Brian

Brian -

sounds like a really fun weekend.  Sign me up!  But please delete my name from the horse list - I had a bad incident as a child and refuse to get on one since then.  I think I'll pass on the screamer also  ;)

Glad you and your daughter had a great time.  It's so nice to hear of life after an AN  ;D

Jan

PS - did I notice Syl sporting a Steve original in her latest profile picture?

Great "visualization" !  :D

How on earth is Steve knitting all these hats so fast??!!  I'm only just finishing my second scarf and hat combo!  Granted there's been a bit of lay time with the old brain surgery and all... but jeez!  He's a machine!  I think he should enter a speed knitting competition!

Ya know, I'vew been away for awhile and now that I am back, everywhere I turn I see these kick-butt knit scarves!  Which can only mean that Steve is hard at work!  Steve, I want a roll cap in blue, please!!!  Pretty please?  I will wear it to the symposium (a knit cap in August in Chicago - am I crazy???)

Really nice work, Steve!

I'm not sure of this - because I'm getting older and forgetful - but I think the ANA will tell you when your membership is up.

Is this true, Steve?  Or did I just make that up?
