Hello everyone.
I have noticed that my tinnitus gets a lot louder when I turn my eyes towards the AN operated side ???
If you are curious, please try it out and let me know if you get the same change in volume as I do.
If you have an explanation thats even better.
Regards, Kenneth.

I just tried it, and the ringing got a lot stonger for me too. I never knew that before. I don't have an explanation, but am sure somebody will offer up something.

WOW, that's odd ..... never thought about it before, but the tinnitus is definitely worse when looking to the AN side ..... although it was somewhat louder when looking to the non-AN side as well. However, I also had retrosigmoid surgery on the non-AN side 15 years ago so it may have to do with that.
The tinnitus always seems worse when I am tired or stressed ..... and always at night before going to sleep.

Sounds like gaze-evoked tinnitus. The explanation offered in the article referenced in this post will clear it all up:

I honestly don't understand a word of the explanation, but it sounds like a good story. :)

I am truly amazed :D

Hi all,
Mine also gets louder and higher pitched when looking toward the AN side. It gets slightly louder when looking toward the non-AN side. I didn't know this until just recently when I read something about it.
Clarice, I hope you don't mind the question, but I am curious why you had retrosigmoid on your non-AN side?

Kathy ....
The technical term is microvascular decompression, which was done for relieving the excruciating pain from trigeminal neuralgia. An artery and 2 veins were pressing into the 5th cranial nerve as it left the brain stem so the artery was lifted off via teflon pads and the veins were clipped. One of the risks of that surgery was damaging the auditory nerve because of the close proximity so monitoring was done continuously during surgery. I do not have any hearing loss from the surgery on that side, but I did lose 80% on the AN side.
Hope that briefly explains ...... :-\

Oh, my goodness, Clarice!
You have had quite a journey...much more so than "just" an AN. Bless you!
And thank you for answering my nosey question! ::)

My tinnitus doesn't change at all when I look to either side....although....if I move my jaw in certain ways it makes it louder and higher. A friend at work (who also has tinnitus but for a different reason) said that it could have to do with sinuses..
