Some of you may remember that my father-in-law passed away unexpectedly last October. It has been very hard on my mother-in-law who does not drive and was very dependent on him. She has since had a nasty case of shingles and just had surgery for spinal stenosis at the L3/4 and L4/5 levels.
Yesterday around noon, my brother-in-law and his family were involved in an automobile accident. I'm not sure of the details, but my niece thinks that a pickup hit another pickup, knocking it into their van. My sister-in-law and nieces have been released from the hospital, but my brother-in-law was killed upon impact.
My husband and I told his mother last evening. I think it was the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life. Tony was a wonderful, gentle man and we will miss him terribly.
Please keep my mother-in-law, Ethel, Tony's wife Marilyn and daughters Julia and Sara, my husband Phil and his other brother John in your prayers.

That is such a horrible thing - it seems like we are having more than our share of things to pray about here lately, BUT as we can see with Jim & Donnalynn, we must have some pretty powerful ones! I will pray that the Lord will wrap His loving arms around you ALL during this horrible time.

This reminds me, sadly, of a time when we lived on the Oregon Coast. A tragic accident, just like this, happened. Car crash, banged up family, except for their oldest son, who was killed instantly. I worked with one of the kids that went to high school with the boy. Small community, terrible loss for everyone. So, so sad. I will continue to pray for you and your family also.

Thank you all so much for your sweet and supportive messages. Visitation has been scheduled for tomorrow afternoon from 4 to 7 with the funeral Wednesday morning at 10.
This is all so senseless. The driver of the pickup that hit Tony's van was cited for speeding and for careless and imprudent driving. The policeman who worked the accident has issued subpoenas for the truck's black box and for the driver's cell phone record. Depending on the results, he may file vehicular manslaughter charges. It is so sad. The driver is only 26 years old and still in the hospital with a lacerated liver.
We are taking comfort in knowing that Tony is in heaven with his dad. The support from family and friends, including my cyberbuddies here, has been tremendous.
Thanks again,
Sara

Dear Sara,
I'm so sorry about the tragic loss in your family. I will be praying for you all too.
I commented on your daughter's game earlier without reading this post. I didn't realize what had happened in your family.
I'm praying God's comfort and help will be very evident to your family.

Thanks everyone. As soon as I've taken a shower and picked up the kids, we're on our way to the visitation. The funeral is tomorrow at 10 a.m. Keeping busy has been helpful.
Thanks again for all the love and support.

Thank you all again for your kind thoughts and prayers. God blessed us with a lovely day. The service was beautiful and uplifting. The sun was shining and the spring flowers were blooming. Tony was widely loved and will be forever missed.
We are so blessed that the girls were not killed as well. They are all recovering nicely from their physical injuries, but of course the heartache will take much longer to heal. My husband took pictures of the van on his cell phone when he and his other brother went to pick up personal items, and I am amazed that they survived the accident.
Take an extra minute tonight to tell your loved ones what they mean to you. Our lives can change in an instant.
Take care,
Sara
