Title: Captain Deb Returns to Sea!
Post by: Captain Deb on February 11, 2009, 11:22:46 am
AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRNOSIRRRRREEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

The old girl ain't sunk YET!!!! And here be the digital PROOF!!!!!!!!

After a fierce battle wiv the Headache Monster, yer Fearless Leader has lived to sail the Seven Seas once again! Armed to the teeth wiv the dreaded Topamax Torpedoes and Neurontin Nukes, Posieden has once again allowed me to venture forth across the Rolling Blue. Or shall we say Flat Turquoise as it was, after all, Sarasota Bay.

I actually ventured forth also, onto the cabin top of our Coronado 26 as seen from this shot:

It was pretty chilly that day, but we are going out again on Saturday, and it is supposed to be 89 degrees so you may get some bikini shots yet! (Yeah, right!) More photos to follow if you wish................

Sailing off into the sunset..........

Deb, my former boss and his wife sold just about everything they owned -- house, a couple of apartment buildings, furniture, you name it -- put the rest in storage and bought a catamaran. They lived on it for two years and our family was fortunate enough to be able to spend a night with them on Kentucky Lake one summer. The kids were quite small but still remember the boat. They got to steer! They have since sold the catamaran and live in Idaho now, but what an adventure. I don't think I could be quite that gutsy.

Great shots, Deb.  And great fun.  I know Sarasota Bay well.  My mom had a place on Siesta Key and I've been out on that beautiful bay many times.  Enjoy!

We are venturing forth again this Sunday out upon the Mighty Flat Turquiose of Sarasota Bay so we will need our Pooter to conjure up a nice 15 to 20 knot breeze!  Jeez, then maybe we will even make it out into the Gulf of Mexico! Yo-ho-ho! AAAARRRR!!!!

Thanks Nancyann! Good to hear from you!  You know folks this is such huge progress for me!  3 years ago when I found (or re-found) the forum in its now more user-friendly state, I was practically bed-ridden with daily migraine post-op headaches. Through the experience of others here, and the information gathered at the ANA symposium in Philadelpia in 07, I finally started to find a way past those horrible awful headaches.  Thanks to a great doc at a headache specialty clinic that was willing to listen to me when I requested certain meds suggested by docs at the ANA headache workshops, I finally feel like I have my life back--I don't feel like "the sick one" any more. So to all of you recent posties with fresh new headaches--stick around here and for gosh sakes try to find a good doc with an open mind!  And try to tough it out and get to a symposium or at least order the headache workshop on CD and make your doc listen to it!  These are not ordinary headaches!

I'll be thinking of all of you on Sunday whilst out upon the briney deep!

Love and Hugs,

Capt Deb. P)

Warm winds and steady seas... :)

AAAARRRRRRR!!!!!!

Ahoy Ye Wenches, Scallywags and various assorted Bilge Rats! That includes you Master Laz! Yers truly ventured forth upon the Great Flat Turquiose of Sarasota Bay again this past Sunday afternoon wiv me new mates, Captain John and First Wench Karalee. Light winds we had and a few squalls and fog to the north but it be fairly warm.  Here be a pic of me Aids to Navigation! We don't need no stinkin' port and starboard runnin' lights!

Wivout these toes we'd a been hopelessly lost and probably ended up with Oceanic Flight Number whatever on that island with the Smoke Monster and the polar bears. And Sawyer. OOOOOOOOHHHHHHH SAWYER!!! I digress..........

And here's a pic of me in my position as lookout on the bow.  (Boat already had a captain!) Good thing we only had about 6-inch seas instead of the usual rolling 4 to 5 footers are commonplace in the Caribbean.  I didn't even fall overboard!

And I had to give you guys a close up shot of my favorite pirate wench sailing T-shirt!

Ain't she a cutie? I'm actually wearing her in my forum profile pic but you can't see her!

Dr Love, my husband, is coming down here to fetch me tomorrow because I threatened to miss the plane home. I hope he gets to go sailing too! At least he'll get a little beach time and a break from working outside building a house in the snow.  While I have him down here we will start sniffing around for a little place down here for the winters--there are some sweet deals right now.

Goodbye from the Sushine State!

About the toes for all you landlubbers--on a seagoing vessel, her running lights on the port (left) side are red and the starboard (right) side are green. Basic seamanship 101 with Captain Deb. Or seawomanship.

My friend Marge and I have been doing this to our toes for years ever since I crewed on her sweet 42 foot wooden Herreschoff yawl "Tradition." I'll post some crazy toe pics when I get home that will really crack you up! Nowadays wiv me sense of direction all cattywhompus thanks to severed balance nerve.  I use them as "Aids to Navigation" to help me find my car in the Wal-Mart parking lot!

can I say jealous ... you look great ... and the water does too ... you need to board a bigger boat to
hold all us stowaways ....

haven't been on any sea type waters in years as in 25 or so  ... haven't been on the rivers in maybe
12 years ... my sons grew up and abandoned me  :(... my landlubber husband almost drowned when he was
8 and is scared of a filled bath tub...he has told the girls horror stories of water and other than our waist high
creek and the pool they don't want to get near the any big water ...then they go chasing and herding
1000 pound cows on foot like no ones business  ...

I am gonna have to hire someone to get in a canoe and float down the Elk ... I had a very interesting good/bad
encounter with the Elk River almost 23 years ago and it became my friend ... I find water sooths me in ways
nothing else does ...

No sure how I would do on a boat... walking along the lake in Centennial park the water rippling made me
dizzy and headachy... I go sit by the river and watch it go by but canoing it alone is not a good idea but I
think about it  ...
the river changes regularly... gonna put that on my list of things to conquer this summer... boat ride... may
end up just paddle boating at the state park but it would be a start ... may coerce my out of work more than
working son to go in case my legs give out ...

Captain Deb,
Wish I were there....the ocean always calls to me because I spent most of my childhood in Atlantic City, NJ (before casinos, when it was just a resort town).  It looks beautiful where you are, and you look great.  Enjoy.

Well folks Dr Love is down here to retrieve me.  I threatened never to come home so he has come to tie me up and stuff me in the car kicking and screaming and drag me back to the frozen north. He's mean!  However today I took him to beautiful Turtle Beach where we watched pelicans swoop and dive and play in the turquoise Gulf of Mexico and as we speak he is on Hotpad.com looking at houses on Siesta key.  Really small houses, but houses. I think he's thawing!

What a cutie patootie!  I have yet to get my grandkids out sailing even though we have a small Dagger 18 which we trailer to a large lake over in Tennessee.  Haven't sailed her since my surgery. Maybe this is the year!!

YES!  The only way he got me in the car was to promise to buy us a place down here. I'm ready to sell everything and move on down! I can't handle winter anymore. Period. Being down here reminds me of how much I miss the islands. There are some great deals down here right now, too and we just sold one of our rentals so......who wants to come visit next winter?

P. S. Post surgical patients can learn to walk again on the beach so if they fall over they just fall in the water and bob around a little. No problemo!

4teve-o you won't need insurance! You can just knit me a hat! (Have you figure out how to knit a jolly roger yet?) If not I'll take me some Rasta colors mon! Maybe I could get some grant money for my rehab center. Folks could fly to House for their surgery and then to Capt Deb House for their rehab!  Take 'em sailin for vestibular training and laughs! Yeah!
