Title: EMG
Post by: Catflower on December 16, 2008, 09:40:56 am
The neurologist I saw for the facial twitching has ordered an EMG.  He said it was painful.  For those of you who have had this done--on a scale of 1 to 10 how painful is it?

When I had my first EMG at six weeks it didn't bother me at all because I was just starting to get the feeling back in my face. Then I had it again at four months and it was uncomfortable. Really I kept thinking suck it up buttercup you want to know if there is any regeneration. The fine needles go under the skin in three places and the machine makes a crackling noise if there is any regeneration.
REMEMBER IT IS ONLY A SNAP SHOT IN TIME!!!!!!!!!

I had mine (at four months) and it showed no regeneration at all near my mouth and then 2 weeks later it started to move.
You can do it!

My EMG included two procedures, one of which involved shocks and the other tiny needles.

It's not comfortable by any means, but it's no worse than a visit to the dentist for a filling.

Mine was done about 8 weeks post-op. It showed no regeneration whatsoever, but the facial nerve specialist I saw the next day could discern a tiny bit of movement, and I have had slow but steady progress. The nerve guy says I won't need to repeat the test.
