Word on the street is that the latest edition of "Notes" is in the mail - and has even been received already by some :o
I hear it's a great issue - no pun intended ::)
Hope mine arrives soon,
Jan

I received mine yesterday. ;D
Jo

Jan:
If 'Notes' has been published and mailed, I should have mine in, oh, about three weeks or so. We'll see. Thanks for the heads-up.

NEWS FLASH.....
I GOT MINE!!!!!
It's a Christmas miracle!!!!
Lori

Lori~
You must have REALLY been good the last couple of months!! Maybe they turned the list upside down and those of us that waited the longest last time are getting it 1st thing time? I haven't received mine yet though...guess I haven't been as good as you have! ;D
K

I got mine today and I am in Canada! ::) ::) ::)
-
I got mine here in Germany on Friday. I thought it always took so long to recieve mail from the USA but I guess not. Info on the 19th National Symposium in Chicago is inclosed, sure wish I could come, my parents only live 2 1/2 hours south of Chicago.

My newsletter came today too. Yeah!
I do not think the registration fee varies by dates as it does so much in the past. Good way to do it. I hope those who may need help can get it via the scholarship fund.
Iowa is in the middle of the next snow. Only 3"-5" this time.

Got mine yesterday and I was one of the last to get it last time like Lori - so maybe they did turn the list upside down this time.
cindy
-
Cindy,
They must not have wanted us to complain this time! ;D I don't blame them one bit!!
I am amazed that it made it to Germany before Chicago though! Go figure!
Lori
-
Isn't it kind of ironic that the title of this thread is "LATEST newsletter" and we all talk and wonder WHO will be the one to get it the LATEST? Maybe it will be the one who started this thread...just a thought... ;)
K
-
You may be right, Kay. I started this thread and I've yet to see my newsletter.
Interesting it's made it all the way to Canada and Germany - and Tennessee - but not to Illinois yet ::)
Perhaps the cold weather - or now the snow - has slowed it down. Or, maybe like you say, I just haven't been as good as Lori lately :D
Dan in Germany, wish you could attend the symposium; I'm looking forward to meeting as many "forumites" as possible. Perhaps it's time to pay a visit to mom & dad.

what newsletter? ??? ??? ???
:'(

Keep an eye out for my "Voyages" piece in this edition! Hope everyone enjoys it. Francesco
-
Francesco,
I thought it was an absolutely wonderful article you wrote! I did enjoy it! And you should put your picture on the forum - you're a cutie! ;)
Lori
-
Francesco,
Excellent and very thought-provoking piece -- thank you for writing it.

Well, my copy of 'Notes' (finally) arrived in today's mail. Not all that late, really. I haven't had time to do more than skim it but intend to read everything as soon as possible. I noticed Francesco's article - that will be the first thing I read. I also saw lots of info on the Chicago symposium. Looks like another great newsletter!
Jim
-
Well, Jan, don't feel bad - it hasn't made it to Tallyho Lane in NJ yet either...

Very good article, Francesco. It was quite informative and should help others with their treatment decisions.
I actually received my newsletter today.
Good job!

I haven't gotten mine yet either. Am I on the Naughty list?

O.K. I read my latest edition of 'Notes', the ANA newsletter. I enjoyed the cogent piece by our own Francesco and the article from the Ohio support group was interesting. The AN survey was very informative. However, that was about it. The bulk of the newsletter focused on the Chicago symposium. It was chock-full of details, registration forms and so on. The symposium seems to be very well-organized and has the potential for being the best yet. I wasn't surprised but just a tad disappointed that 'Notes' cut out a lot of it's usual features in lieu of promoting the symposium but I'm sure those features will return in the next newsletter. Considering the fact that I received my issue within a month of its publication and Francesco's excellent article, I'm pleased. :)

I received mine 2 days ago... beat ya all....lol
Francesco, that was a great article. And so true about docs not knowing about post treatment side effects. My CK doc's know nothing about it and I have been educating them. I am going to give them a copy of your article.
Thanks again,
sher

Wendy -
if there is a naughty list, I'm right there with you - and apparently Debbi. But that doesn't explain how Lori got her newsletter already ::)
I'm looking forward to reading Francesco's story; I've read his blog and found it quite good.
I'm also very excited with the prospect of finding out more details about the symposium. Hope I don't have to wait too long.
Jan
-
Still nothin'...& I ain't been nothin' but good!!
K :(
-
Are you SURE??? ;) :D
Jan
-
Hey, Phyl hasn't tripped over my fallen halo lately, so I've obviously been good. ;D Either that or Phyl has just been watching her step a little closer lately.
Lori
-
I vote for the latter :D
Jan (still newsletter-less)
-
Ok, still don't have mine, so don't feel too bad. You have company, after all!
Marci

I received my copy yesterday. Great article Francesco, but I agree the bulk of the newsletter was about the symposium.
Who is thinking of going ?
Lainie.
-
There is a really long list of who does hope to attend of us forumites. Many more than the one 2 yrs ago. I can not take time at the moment to find it but there is a list of who is planning to attend among the posts. This will be my 4th one due to being an ANer since 2001. Very interesting to attend.

Great article, Francesco. That says volumes about the business end of the AN world.
-
Got mine two weeks ago. We have a great pony express here in CO. I agree, great article Francesco! Thanks for sharing your journey. You have helped so many folks on this board. A big thank you from me. Happy Holidays and a healthy and happy 2009 to all.

I am thinking of going for two reasons. One because I love Chicago. Two because I would love to challenge doctors on post-surgery and the lack of understanding. But since I have been knocked out of my acting profession, finances may be a bit of a challenge. We shall see.
David
-
David~
I REALLY thought it one of your reasons would be because you might get to meet ME!! ;D
K
-
Thank you all for your positive feedback on the article! I've received a number of wonderful emails from lay readers across the country. None so far from any doctors -- I hope they are reading as well.
David, Lainie, let's go raise some hell in Chicago!!
Happy holidays to all!

Still waiting on my newsletter :(
Am definitely attending the symposium.
Note to David -
I believe the ANA has something where those who are strapped for cash might get a little sponsorship from other attendees. I don't know how this all works, since this will be my first symposium, but I believe attendees can somehow contribute funds to help their fellow forumites/ANA members out. Those who want to take advantage of this sponsorship would have to contact the ANA and ask for more specific details.
It seems like most of us are strapped for cash these days, but hopefully things will work out for everyone and we'll all get to meet each other in August.

Still waiting on my newsletter...
I believe the ANA has something where those who are strapped for cash might get a little sponsorship from other attendees. I don't know how this all works...
It is all explained in the registration materials included with the current issue of the newsletter. ;D
Steve
-
Thanks, Steve.
If I ever get my newsletter I plan on giving something to the "sponsorship fund" when I pay my own registration - and I urge others to do so. Every little bit we can give will help someone else in our "same boat".
Being from the Chicago area I won't have to pay much to travel (just the cost of going downtown), so I'll only have hotel and registration fees.
This year won't be as costly for me as future years when the symposium is further away from where I live, so I'd like to help others who will have to pay more.
I'm also assuming that this contribution will be tax deductible - just like any other contribution to the ANA - so that's a nice "perk" when it comes to filing my taxes 8)
Jan
-
I hope whoever goes has a great time and learns a lot. I didn't "re-up", so I don't get a newsletter anymore. But, I think the last symposium was very interesting and a lot of fun for the folks that went.

I finally got my newsletter today - or it could have been yesterday; I just got home from being out of town tonight.
Haven't had a chance to read Francesco's column, but will do so tomorrow.
Did peruse the symposium materials. The registration fee is definitely very reasonable; wish the hotel rate was a little more so :P
Jan
-
My bad. Of course the main reason why I would want to go to Chicago is to meet all of you -- then take on the doctors -- and of course sample the Chicago nightlife. It's my favorite downtown city.
And btw, the issue with finances is that at this time I have to watch my spending with all the medical things I'm dealing with. It may be no issue at all as time gets closer.
Have a great week
David

David -
I hope you are able to make it to Chicago.
I know Steve is buying ALL the drinks @ the symposium, but if you do attend, I'll personally buy you one ;D
Jan

Grey Goose on the rocks with a twist.
-
You're on ;D
But you have to remind me of the drink specifics in August. I don't know a Grey Goose from a brown one LOL
Jan
-
My newsletter was here when I got back from Houston!!
K ;D

I finally got around to reading Francesco's article in the newsletter and all I can say is Bravo! Job well done!
I especially like the suggestion to doctors about not just giving patients their opinions and recommendations, but fully informing them of all the debates, disagreements, and treatments available. I was lucky enough to have a neurotologist who believed in "full disclosure" and IMO it's something every patient is entitled to.
Jan
-
Francesco, what a great article! Bravo! Bravo!
Capt Deb
PS We need to get all folks who are attending the symposium solo hooked up with roomies to cut hotel costs. Who wants to play concierge?
-
Great idea, Deb - would definitely cut costs.
Is this possible though? I haven't looked at the hotel "specifics" in a few weeks, but I thought I saw something about king-size beds.
The only time I stayed at The Drake, back when I was married, our room had a king-size bed and a little sitting area that had a couch. I believe we also had a roll-away bed - since both our children were with us.
Jan
-
Oh, Jan, after a grey goose or two, you won't care about only having a king size bed! ;)
Oh oh, I feel a virtual slap on the wrist coming... :o
Lori
-
Duck, Lori, here comes Phyl with the stick :D
PS - your halo is slipping again :P LOL
Jan
-
*chuckle, chuckle, chuckle...* ;)
K ;D
-
Jan, I wasn't sure if it would be you or Phyl with the stick! ;)
I'm more worried about Phyl - she could get her vicious attack dog after me! :D
Lori
-
Thanks Jan and Cap't Deb -- I really appreciate it. Happy new year!
-
We need to get all folks who are attending the symposium solo hooked up with roomies to cut hotel costs. Who wants to play concierge?
I think you should start a new topic for this; this one has quickly headed off in the wrong direction... :o
Steve
-
Sorry, Steve, this is all Lori's fault! :D (And I thought Phyl would be the one with the big stick) ;)
Perhaps we should start a new topic in AN Community since Capt Deb had a great idea.
Because The Drake isn't cheap, and many attendees have transportation costs in addition to the registration fee, sharing rooms is something that a lot of forumites might be interested in.
I'm not playing censor here, but I think the good Captain was talking about same-sex forumites sharing rooms, but hey we're all adults, so I'll just stay out of that issue :-X
Anyway, my point was I don't know how practical or possible it would be to share a room at The Drake. From my recollection the rooms typically have a king-size bed and a seating area with a couch. I don't know if the couch folds out into a bed or not. My children both tell me it does; I don't remember - but then again, I'm 34 years older than they are :D
Anyway, want me to start a new topic? or do you?
