Title: New York Area ANers
Post by: Debbi on December 11, 2008, 10:34:00 am
Wendysig and I want to try to have a lunch with fellow ANers from the NY/NJ/CT area in January.  We've tentatively picked the date of Saturday, Jan 10 to meet for lunch.  We last got together in the summer, just a week before Wendy's surgery, and had a great time.  Hoping more folks can join us this time.

Wendy and I will pick a restaurant in mid-town, something walkable from Penn Station, Grand Central or Port Authority.

So, who's in????  Let's start some momentum for this!!

Debbi :)

Please count me in, too! I can't think of a better way to celebrate my "one-year-and-a-day" AN surgery anniversary date than meeting up with fellow ANers. Let's hope for 60-degree weather (like yesterday) instead of rainy 40s (like today) for January 10th.

Thanks to Debbi and Wendy for organizing this.

Hi all,

Wow!  This is a great response so far -- it will be great to see Debbi Joe and Eve and meet Catherine and Mike if he can come.  Joe - I'll be happy to buy you a drink!  It would be also great if we can get a few more people to join in the post-holiday fun!

Cheers!

Yay!  Mi9ckey- haven't heard from you in ages!  Good to "see" you hear.

I also PMd MaryMomof3 to see if she can join us.  Will reach out to a couple of other local ANers I know, too.  And, now, we have an offical "cause" - Joe's 2 year anniversary!!!  Yahoo!

I will try to join the gathering--hope you pick someplace that has some vegitarian options. Near Penn Station is good for me.

I will try to join you all, but I often work on Saturdays.  I'm on a very light work schedule though. So perhaps I'll be off that day. Wayne

Ed,

I hope you'll be able to join the NY-area group on January 10! I think that Debbi and Wendy are in the process of finalizing some details, so more information should be forthcoming. Best wishes as you prepare for your GK procedure.

Hi All-

Weather permitting, we are ON for next Saturday.  Wendy and I are just finalizing a location, and yes, we'll make sure their are vegetarian options (maybe not total vegan, though).  Nancy from NYC is also coming.  I will PM everyone with my cell phone number so you can call me Saturday if you have any change in plans.  So far, here's where we are:

Debbi (plus Willie)
Wendy
Joe D
Cetherine (JerseyGirl2)
Eve (JerseyGirl)
Mike I (Mickey)
Wayne (hopefully?)
Ed (hopefully - good luck on the 8th!)
Neal
Nancy

Am I missing anyone?  Can you let me know if you're bringing friend/spouse?  As soon as we finalize restaurant, I'll call to have them reserve a table, so rough head count would be great.

Happy New Year, all!  Can't wait to see everyone!

Debbi (and Wendy)

Hi Gang-

Okay, I made a reservation at Brendan's Irish Pub under my name (Debbi) for noon.  I made it for approximately 10 and will firm it up the day prior.  They don't have a full menu, but have a nice brunch menu priced at $16 and it accomodates herbivores as well as carnivores!

Address:

42 West 35th Street (Between 5th and 6th)
212-564-5405

Website:  http://www.brendansbar.com/ (http://www.brendansbar.com/)

I've sent you all a PM with my cell phone; let me know if you need me to resend, okay?

BTW, In addition to Joe's 2 year anniversary and Ed's GK, we're also celebrating Wendy's new BAHA abutment, which she is having installed on Monday!! Wahoo!

Hi Happy New Year Everyone!!

I think its great that you are meeting for lunch and thank you Catherine (Jerseygirl2) for the invite but unfortunately I will have to take my son to Hockey Game and then have a Birthday party that day so I will not be able to make it.

Sounds like fun and maybe I can make another in the future.  Have a great time!!

thanks

Hi fellow NY area AN'ers
I'm so glad that Debbie got in touch with me to let me know about your lunch date.  I'm really glad to be able to come and meet more of you.  Joe, if you are reading this, lunch is on me- it's a promise I made to you the first time we talked and I haven't forgotten - and it's especially delightful to me now that I know it's your two year anniversary.
I haven't been much of a poster but I read from the sire relentlessly - I had many unusual symptoms before surgery and with my history of cancer, I decided not to make newbie readers on this site more scared of possible outcomes, like I was.
In actuality, my surgery went very well and the best news was that it was only an acoustic neuroma.  I'm 7 months out of surgery, still healing from some facial weakness, and waiting for my BAHA this month, after having had the abutment put in 2 months ago.  I'll be bringing my smiling (more than half these days) face to see you all on Saturday!

I'm really looking forward to next Saturday's lunch; many thanks to Debbi and Wendy for making the arrangements! We'll have a couple of additional milestones to commemorate besides the ones Debbi mentioned previously -- Eve (the number one Jersey Girl!) and her outstanding MRI results (posted on another thread) and the one-year-and-a-day anniversary of my own AN surgery/BAHA implant. It will be fun to put names and faces together. Wendy, best wishes on your BAHA surgery tomorrow!

Joe- Yes, drinks included-I'll definitely buy you a drink- a two year anniversary is awesome and if I have it right, you already have a promise of drink one- third one is back to me if you can handle it!

PS- I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and raising my glass to celebrate important milestones in your lives, Joe, Eve, Catherine, Wendy, - wow, it seems like this is a group where good things are happening-hope they have a back room, I'm wondering if this is a roudy group!  And thanks Debbi, for getting in touch with me.

I would love to join you all on Saturday, but it's my 10 year anniversary and my husband and I are planning to go away.  Hopefully there's a next time - because I'll definitely be there.
Have a drink for me

... and Joe, congrats on the 2 year anniversary!

Okay NY/NJ ANers - we are ALL SYSTEMS GO for tomorrow!  Willie and I will get there a little early (hopefully) and make sure they are ready for us.  I sent everyone a PM with my cell phone number - PLEASE send me a PM tonight if you didn't get it!

We are expecting 5-8 inches of the dreaded white stuff tomorrow afternoon/night in my little part of Heavenly NJ, so Willie and I may have to leave a little early, just depending on weather conditions.  We have to look out for his parents, who live about 30 minutes north of us.  However, one way or another, I am going to be there - and can't WAIT to see everyone!!  I'll be the one with SSD!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi everyone!

Today's luncheon was great but apparently, everyone except Debbi forgot to bring a camera.  She will hopefully be posting the couple of pictures Willie took soon.  It was great to see Debi, Eve and Joe again and great to meet Debbi's husband, Willie,  Nance, Catherine, Mikckey and his wife Pat who as it turned out I already knew (it really is a small world) and Neal!  I really love being able to put faces to names.  Brendan's was really nice and the food was good.  They were also nice enough to turn the music down since Debbi told them most of us had a hearing problem  We had quite a few things to toast -- Debbi's upcoming birthday at the end of the month and her wonderful  smile -- Debbi you really look great  ;D, Neal's birthday next week and his upcoming surgery on January 27th -- good luck Neal I know you will be in great hands,  Nance about to receive her BAHA processor, Eve's clean MRI, Joe's 2 year ANniversary and me haiving my BAHA surgery behind me.  Unfortunately, Wayne was unable to join us because he had to work -- I hope he'll make it the next time along with Ed (I hope your GK experience wasn't too bad),, Mary and Dawn who were also not able to come.  I know I can say that a good time was had by all!

I'm here - and I've got a picture!!  As Wendy already reported, we met at Brendans (perfect spot for us, and centrally located) and we had a wonderful time!  It was great to see everyone again - and to meet Neal and Rob for the first time.  Unfortunately, I forgot my camera, too, and had to take a picture with my Blackberry, which came out a little blurry. Never the less, here we are!

Starting at the left: me, JerseyGirl (Eve), Mickey (Mike I), Rob (Mr. Wendy), Joe (JTD), Neal, Pat (Mrs. Mike), Wendy, JerseyGirl2 (Catherine) and Nance.  Willie said we were all swaying and that is why the picture is blurry!   ;D

As Wendy noted, Wayne was called into work at the last minute and wasn't able to make it, but he sent his hellos and deep thanks to everyone for their support and friendship - we'll see you next time, Wayne.

Sorry that the picture is blurry, but I can think you can see that we are all smiling - even Neal, who is only a few weeks away from surgery!  And, Catherine, happy One Year Anniversary!! (It was a hear ago yesterday...)

Let's plan to do this again in the spring, okay?  I'm thinking sometime in April ...  Next time, hopefully Mary and Dawn and Wayne can be with us, and whoever else wants to join in, from near or far.  I must take this moment to tell you guys how much you all mean to me!  And thanks to the ANA for providing this forum that allowed all of us to meet.

Great get together, you guys!  The blurry picture is no problem - Willie said you were all swaying...well, we're all swaying as we look at it, so it looks perfectly normal!

Thanks for posting it, Debbi!

Boy, what a GREAT group of people--I'm so glad I went and met everyone. I can't say how much more confident I feel about my upcoming surgery after lunching with this group. For me, to sit and talk and laugh with a group who have experienced what I am going through now is so helpful. I'm soooo glad I went.

Thanks everyone for the good company, and thanks Debbi for putting this together.

Had a great time! To get an AN is not being lucky but one of the lucky things that comes about having one is to meet and know such great people. I count my blessings for that. By the way I got unlucky with a parking ticket. (TRAP) You worry about getting robbed on the subway so you take your car and get robbed by the city. Ha Ha! Just a little twist I`d do it all over again to have such a nice day!  Mickey and Pat

Well, I think we can safely say that our acoustic neuromas may be removed, but congeniality and senses of humor remain very much intact! I had a great time at the NY area lunch today -- thanks for organizing it, Debbi -- and it was wonderful to meet such a great group of folks. We had quite a few milestones to celebrate, which made the occasion even more special. I'm looking forward to getting together again, and I hope that we'll have an even larger group next time!

It was fun being in the city on a "snowy day" and I'm glad to report that I made it back to my train with just a couple of minutes to spare. It reminded me of my days of commuting into New York, and I'm happy that I haven't lost the ability to zip through Penn Station quickly. Hope that everyone made it back home safely, without encountering too much snow. We got about an inch or two here at the Jersey Shore.

Thank you again, Debbi, for a fun afternoon, and best wishes to everyone.

well, we did get the storm (thanks for trying to blow it away, Debbi!) but, thrilled it didn't interfere with your get-together! Looks like you all had a fabulous time and thrilled everyone enjoyed! Nothing like a bit of laid back atmosphere, filled with food, good talk and cheer and more food to bring the AN gang together! :)

We missed you, Wayne!  Lets start looking at calendars for April for our next get-together?

Meanwhile, I am making a big loaf of wheat walnut bread - it's on its second rise right now.  Willie and I spent the morning clearing our driveway and walkways and he is now off to his parents to finish clearing their property.  I am thinking he'll appreciate a nice hunk of bread, warm from the oven, when he gets home...

Stay warm, everyone!

Hi Joe -
It was  great to see you yesterday.  A summertime poolside get together sounds great and that's a very generous offer!  I'll be the first to say I would love to come!  I still owe you that drink for your ANniversary so I'll bring something good -- let me know what your favorite drink is and I'll supply it!

Great picture, Debbi.  Didn't look at all blurry to me - I just squinted like I do when I forget to put on my glasses  :D  It's great that everyone had such a good time and I think it's very interesting that Wendy knew Mickey's wife.

Thanks everyone who was at our get-together for such a good time!  It's so healing to be with others who can not only give out great information but can joke about AN's and we all really "get it."  You're all so supportive and helpful- it was a very memorable day for me I won't forget.  Let's do this again when the weather's better and take more pictures with big (or bigger) smiles as time goes on.
