Title: Tongue w/sensation of being freezing cold after surgery. Why?
Post by: CROOKEDSMILE on October 28, 2008, 04:09:59 pm
After my surgery my tongue felt frozen solid. I would drink hot cocoa or hot tea just to warm up my tongue and mouth. It was very uncomfortable. What would cause this? It has gotten better although today 15 months later it feels sooooooo cold. Strange. The terrible metalic taste has resolved but the sensation of freezing cold tongue still bothers me.

I don't have the freezing tongue, but 16 mos post-op, I still have a spot on my tongue that tastes salty...  no matter what I eat or drink... its salty.   My high school classmate who is my dentist said it the stress on the nerves.  Hopefully it will go away....  First my tongue hurt.... then it was the metallic taste.... now its a salty....

Well, I have a cold nose!  Just like a nice healthy pup, I guess.  But in the cold weather it really bothers me.  Didn't have that before AN.  Now I do.  Drives me nuts.

It's nerves regenerating or just firing up.  I'm having big-time pain in my gums, teeth and tongue.  Occasionally it will feel numb as well.
Good luck,

I am glad this is normal for some - - I still have that 'novacain' sensation on the side of my tongue, teeth, gums and throat - but I am only 2 weeks out of surgery - so this does go away then - right?

It will probably go away/recover but there are no guarantees.  I'm trying to deal with it as if it were permanent.
