Title: Social Security Question
Post by: LADavid on September 05, 2008, 01:48:57 pm
Hi All

Since I have the patience of a kid on Christmas morning, I just have to know something.  Jim already got back to me on this and said it sounds good.

This is really a question for those of you who have been approved for Disability.  Yesterday I got a letter from the SSA.    It gave me a temporary password for my account to use to create a permanent password before Oct 6.  It went on to say, if you are a new beneficiary, please wait to create your password until you have received notice of your benefit payment.

Does this mean I've been approved and I'm just waiting on a notice of benefit payment?  Did this happen to any of you who recently were approved for disability?

David -

as K suggested, I'd ask the Captain - she's bound to know since she just finished her SSA saga recently.

My vote is yes, they've approved you, but I'm only basing that on what you just told us.

Here's hoping I'm right  :)

David,

You should get a letter in a day or so telling you when to expect your first check (the BIG ONE).  I received the information you got about a day or two before the decision on my case was reversed in my favor.  I also received the letter from my attorney the day after the one from SSD.  Congratualtions!!  Your checks come acccording to when your birthday is.  Mine is on the twelfth of the month so I receive my deposit on the third Wednesday of each month.

Wow, David, sounds like Brendalu is the bearing of wonderful news this morning!

I remembered that Captn Deb fought the "bad guys" and finally won, but I forgot about Brendalu - no offense, Brendalu  ;)

Sounds like a major happy dance is in your immediate future - not to mention a toast with an alcoholic beverage  ;D

Thanks, K, Jan and Brendalu!  I haven't popped the champagne cork just yet.  But yesterday, I peeked at my account.  It gave my payment amount (the full amount that I am entitled to), the day the deposit will be made (the fourth Wednesday of the month -- my birthday is the 27th of the month), and under status, it said a benefit letter and a SSI payment was being mailed out.  It sounds like a done deal.  But until I see that letter, I'm holding on that celebration.  But once I get that letter.... ;D

Sounds a little like Publisher's Clearinghouse, but even better cuz it's not a hoax :D

Let us know when it arrives so we can pop those corks right along with you  ;D

David,

Do you receive mail on Saturday?  In Canada, well in Ontario we only have mail delivery Mon-Fri.  Our postal service is a "Crown Corporation".

Here's an interesting tidbit, tomorrow our Prime Minister is meeting with the Governor General to dissolve parliament and the Federal election is scheduled for Oct 14 of this year.  Amazing consider how you our neighbours to the south have been campaigning for the last year and your election isn't until Nov.  I must say your election process is much more entertaining and expensive than ours.  I guess we Canadians are truly boring ;)

Well now back to the issue at hand, way to go David, I'm so happy you are receiving Social Secuity ;D

Guess we'll just have to put the party on hold until Monday.

Keep the faith, David, we're all behind you.

David,
I checked my SS info and I dated every envelope when it came.  I got my letter on a Monday!  Hopefully today will be your lucky day!  Check your bank account balance, you may have a pleasant surprise.  The first big deposit doesn't come on your normal day of the month!  Just make sure you haven't changed banks since you initially filled out the info.  I did and it was quite a pain!!
Good Luck,
Brenda
PS, Jan, it's ok that you forgot, you remember a whole lot that I miss completely......besides I have now been getting mine for one year and Capt Deb is a newby!!!!

The mail comes at 3:00 PDT.  I did call my intake agent at Social Security and left her a message on her private line.  Haven't heard back.  Three more hours.  I am still thinking why would they post my payment amount and the day of the week I would receive it if it wasn't a done deal.  And why would they send me a password letter to manage my account.  So many questions.  Too little patience to deal with it.

URRRRRRR!!!  I keep forgetting about the time change  :P

Like you, though, I think it's a done deal.  I just don't want to start the celebration too early - Murphy's Law and all  ::)

Guess I'll just have to tune into this thread later.

It's a virtue, m'dear. You have waited too long for this end result. I'm cheering you on and hoping today's US Postal brings you the news you've been waiting on! :)

Ok, this is just a wild guess, but if your claim has gone thru and passed.  It "the password" maybe due to the fact that Social Security has been trying out a new system, in use in about 13 to 15 states where your money is directly applied to a Debit type card.  I know it's being tried out here in Washington State, I think it's been in use a good 6 plus months.  So the need for a password could be a very good thing!!!!!!

Hope it means what I think it means!!!

pissa! (as we say here in Bawsten).  Raydean makes a great note about use of password for possible direct deposit. Have you checked your bank account online (If you gave them your bank info ie: routing number, bank acct #, etc).

Hang tough!

David,

Unfortunately SSD isn't as anxious as we are.  I was awarded SSD April of this year.  I  first received a notice of decision.(about a 10 page letter).    Followed by  the notice of award(which tells the amount you'll receive)  Then I received the letter for a password(which I didn't do).  It doesn't matter what order you get these in, sounds to me like its time for you to celebrate.  Have a glass of champayne for me (I can't have my glass of wine because it makes my spasms go hey wire).  I received my check the fourth wednesday of the month also because my B-day is also the 27th.  I just called SSD to have it direct deposit into my checking account.

Thanks Mema.  I was looking for a connection between the password letter and the approval.  I was beginning to think the Password Letter is something generic that goes out to all applicants.  Why?  I don't know.  But you definitely connected the dots.  Thank you!

And to everyone else.  Thanks for hanging in there with me.  Hoping for the official word today.

David -

it's very heartwarming to see you finally get what you are SO entitled to!  Congratulations!!!  I'm doing the Ecstatic Jump right along with you.

BTW, keep the commission - you definitely deserve it.  Steve would probably do something frivolous with his share anyway, like buy fuel for the moderator's jet  ;)

Again, congratulations  :)

Thanks everyone.  The first round at the next Symposium is definitely on me -- even if I'm not there I'll figure a way to do it.  That's the commission, Steve.  Jan's right, you would squander it on fuel for the Moderator jet.  I've been up since 4 am -- I can't sleep just thinking about the lavish lifestyle I'll now be living  ;).  In reality this has been a huge relief and a blessing.  I am very thankful.

And Anne Marie, in answer to a question that you asked earlier, yes we have mail delivery on Saturdays in the United States.  Please don't tell anyone here that you don't in Canada -- they may start getting ideas that mail carriers here need more time off.  I actually remember as a kid that during the Christmas season, we had two mail deliveries a day.  Of course milk and potato chips were delivered to your house as well (anyone remember Charles Chips that came in a large can?).

And Brendalu, I'm not really dancing -- it's more of a somewhat controlled stagger.

Thanks again everyone.  And for the record, it was three months from applying to approval.  Have a great day -- I know I will.

David

David:

I've already sent you a PM but wanted to offer my 'public' congratulations on your approval for Social Security Disability.

Actually, three months isn't that long a wait (as these things go) - but it is when you need and deserve the income.  I know, my wife went through this hassle 11 years ago.  She needed an attorney and numerous appeals before she finally wrenched her monthly checks from the jaws of the SS beast.  The bureaucratic monster that takes but doesn't want to give back when called upon to do so by people who need and deserve the money, which isn't exactly a fortune.

Anyway,I know this has made your day and that of many others who have followed your battle with the Social Security behemoth.  It sure has brightened mine.  Enjoy your success!  :)

Jim

David,
I just reread your post and I am truly amazed!  Three months from applying to approval?  Wow, that restores my faith in the SSA!  Mine took three and a three years almost to the date.
I remember Charlie Chips and milk being delivered.  (My grandma had that...we milked our own cows!)  Do you remember the Jewel Tea Man??

Again, Congratulations!!
