Post by: Tumbleweed on June 19, 2008, 12:41:45 am
Hi, everyone:

Has anyone had hearing or balance improve after CyberKnife treatment? How soon after treatment? To what degree did it improve?

Many thanks,
Tumbleweed

HI Tumbleweed,

haven't heard of anybody, but good question! Mine got worse by about 5%. Was useless before anyway...

Ciao, Lorenzo

Was lucky.... 5 doses/days of CK... my hearing remained 100% intact (I have over 80% serviceable with word recognition around 94%.)

As for my balance, I have a 2fold issue.... AN and Chiari. Both contribute to the great impersonation of a drunk that I do.... but, for the most part, I know the AN throws it off at night, esp. in darkened areas..... (ie: walking the dog outside at night).

Hang in there!

Mine got worse before it got better, but was never a serious problem.  I think my hearing is probably still a little worse than before CK, mostly at high frequency.  Balance is probably as good or a little better.  Nighttime walking was a little unstable for awhile, but doesn't seem to be a problem now at 10 mos. post-CK.

Hearing has remained unaffected.

Balance has improved in the sense that before treatment, I would have acute episodes of imbalance.  Now I just have very minor, almost imperceptible sensation of imbalance that can get a little worse at night or when I don't get enough sleep.  Hoping for continual improvement on this front.
