Phyl,
I enjoyed your column and the picture in the newsletter. You "rawk"!
Hugs,
Brenda
-
;D YES, Phyl's article was great!! But I wished EVERYONE would know what an inspiration she is to all of us who have had the pleasure of meeting her and bruching with her... Phyl has given so much of her time to the ANA forum and is a frequent caller (can she cash in on her frequent caller miinutes!?!>)-- We are so fortunate to have her!!! And what a nice photo of Phyl and the "Cheeky Bloke", Ian... ::)
Hope to see them both at our next brunch May 4...
Regards, Mary from MA :-*
-
Phyl -
I am so jealous that you don't live around me :(
We'll have to plan a brunch during the 2009 symposium so those of us who don't live near you can spend some quality time with you also :)
I hate to sound like a broken record, but I STILL haven't received my newsletter. If it's not here by the end of the week I'm going to contact the ANA and ask them to send me a new one.
Jan
-
aw, sheesh! Thanks Brenda and all.....very kind. I was asked to share in the newsletter about the discussion forum.... I only wrote what I witness here that YOU all do! :) So, a "shout out" to you all! :)
Jan, the ANA was kind enough to send me a few copies.... if need be, send me a PM and I'll get one in the mail to you. :-*
thanks again all... its YOU all that rawk that make this site what it is!
Phyl

I look forward to '09 when we can hopefully have brunch(or at the very least a beer) in Chicago.
Joe-

I look forward to '09 when we can hopefully have brunch(or at the very least a beer) in Chicago.
Joe-
Joe, will buy you the first "pint" :)
-
Joe -
don't drink beer myself, but will be more than willing to raise a glass of whiskey with any and all AN members in Chicago in '09 - or do brunch, or whatever.
Count me in ;D
Jan
-
I'll take Jan's beer!
And Phyl - once again, that article was great and the picture was sooooo cute!! :)
Lori
-
Hmm great.. the two Joe's can head out for a few beers... and I finish off the night with a JD nightcap with leapyrtwins!... 8) 8) 8)
-
well, just make mine a Gray Goose Martini, shaken/not stirred, extra olives, slightly dirty... better make it a double... for what JoeF and I do here... and to meet so many of in person.... I think I'll need it! :D
(jk, folks... hoping to make it next yr!)
Phyl
-
we better get a bottle... ;)
-

It's a date Joef - but JD is a little too rough for me; I'll be drinking Crown Royal ;D
Phyl - thanks for the offer to send me one of your copies of "Notes" but in light of the article about you, I think you need to keep all of them. I just emailed the ANA and asked them to resend my copy.
Jan
-
I got mine but haven't been able to read it yet -- I've been a little busy traveling to different time zones!!
Jan's right -- I'm jealous I'm not closer too...
K
-
Yeah, congrats on the article from me, too, Phyl! I opened up the newsletter, and I said, 'Hey, there's Phyl and her Cheeky Bloke!" And a handsome couple they are, too!
Suein Vancouver

we better get a bottle... ;)
AYE-MEN!!!!!!!! 8)
thanks again all... again, it's me writing about what all I see here from YOU, so YOU all are the subject matter and what makes this discussion forum rawk... not me.. but you. :)
Phyl
-
So if I come to Chicago in August 2009, I can meet Jan and Lori and check out their BAHAs, and then have a slightly dirty Grey Goose martini with Phyl, who will be wearing that fine dress in the picture that she wears all the time, and then have a JD with two Joes and a Crown Royal with Jan and a beer with Lori, and this is all at the brunch? How can I pass this up? I am assuming that conscious attendance at the actual symposium afterwards will be optional... ;D
I will pencil it in, it is a possibility, I have been back to Chicago once already with less of a reason. I am glad they did not pick January, though.
Steve
-
Steve -
it would be great if you could make it. You can even bring the green hat you are going to knit for me. Please make sure it's large enough to cover my BAHA though. Oh yeah, and you may have to knit one for Lori too - as she's sure to be jealous of mine ;D She may or may not be bringing her husband, it depends on how busy his garage surgery business is in August.
Seriously though, put it on your calendar. We'd hate to have to drink without you - but we will if necessary :)
Jan
-
I haven't gotten a new newsletter yet either. ???
-
jb, please email the ANA and keep me updated if you don't get one. I do have an extra and the entire "Notes" it a definate good read.
Phyl
-
Update on my issue of "Notes".
I sent the ANA an email on Monday through the website, but didn't get a response.
I called there yesterday morning and talked to "Marilyn" who said she'd be more than happy to mail me out a new one.
She doubled checked my address - which was correct - and said that my membership doesn't expire until June, so we pretty much figured it got "lost in the mail". Maybe somewhere there is a mailman (sorry, mail person) reading my copy of "Notes" and finding out a whole lot about ANs. LOL
I'm hoping the copy Marilyn mails to me gets here soon.
Jan
-
Steve, if we're all unconscious at the symposium, we can all blame it on Post-AN fatigue.
Jan, August may be a slow month for the garage surgery business. It's hot as heck here in Nashville in August and we don't have A/C in the garage. But, he may have no choice - I may need more spending money for beer in Chicago.
And can we get tickets to Oprah? Maybe it'll be one of those shows where she gives things away. I liked the refrigerator she gave away before Christmas, but I suppose I can settle for a new car.
Lori
-

Lori
You know, this may be something to ask Kate to look into since she seems to be very resourceful. She should be back from her international tour any day now. Maybe we can ask her to research this for us. We have plenty of time until 8/09 so I'm thinking it shouldn't be too hard to get tickets. Maybe if we mention our AN treatments Oprah will take pity on us and give us not only new refridgerators, but new cars also 8)
I'm glad you didn't ask Steve for a knit hat. Being new to this hobby, I don't know if he can complete 2 before next August - and I did ask first LOL
Jan
-
No new cars although that would be nice. New BAHAs and Transears! She could afford it. Since it is summer so they do tapings in the summer? It would have to be closed captioned for me too!
Every so often on her website she has sweepstakes to win tickets to see the show but I have never got lucky and won.
Cheryl R
-
Well, Jan, you're in luck - I'm not much of a hat person. I was hoping maybe Steve could stitch me up a nice sweater. And some matching socks.
Steve, you'd better get busy...
And what's this about Oprah not taping in the summer? Must be nice. I think I want her job. :D
Lori
-
Yeah, I'm not much of a hat person either - especially the knit ones. But on days like today when I had to shovel 6+ inches of snow off my driveway and sidewalk, they sure come in handy. Can't remember the last time it snowed on Good Friday ::)
Don't know much about Oprah's schedule - never looked into it. Will have to do so.
Jan
-
Hmmm... then I guess I shouldn't mention it was 72 degrees and sunny here today....
-
No way!!! :o
-
I emailed the Oprah Show this past week and asked for a show on the AN Symposium and if not then tickets for all of us! I haven't heard anything, but I am going to start a call in campaign next week. I figure if we start early enough, maybe we stand a chance.
Brenda
-
Great thinking, Brenda.
Maybe the rest of us should email the show too. I'll do that later today.
Jan
-
Chicago is a wonderful place to host the symposium!
Oprah tickets sound like fun, but comeon you guys, it has to be a CUBS game in August at Wrigley Fielld. Pass the peanuts, hotdogs and beer!
-
Jan, will follow your suggestion today and email Oprah Show. Couldn't hurt?
Kate B are you a Cubs fan?! I'm up for that day at Wrigley's! It will be great to get back to my old digs, well sort of, as I grew up and married in the western suburbs of Chicago. I have family there and will be attending the Symposium, taking in a meal in Greek Town, driving through the "old hood", and now attending the Oprah Show and Cubbies game, WOW! 8)
-
Arushi -
actually the email to Oprah was Brendalu's idea. Don't want to take credit for her great thought. But the more emails we send, the better.
Kate -
the Cubs would be great, but won't tickets be pretty hard to get for a large group? Despite the fact that they regularly lose, tickets are usually hot commodities.
PS - Welcome back; hope your trip was good :)
Jan
-
If Oprah and the Cubs are involved, I would have to check into coming!!
K
-
PS: Phyl, I got my newsletter yesterday -- THANKS -- Very interesting to read about your story and involvement with the forum.
Now back to Oprah and the Cubs......
-
K -
it would be great if you made it to the symposium ;D
jb -
glad you got your newsletter; still haven't seen mine; am hoping for tomorrow,
Jan
-
So far we have a brunch, beers, whiskey, an Oprah show, and a Cubs game. Oh yes, and a symposium.
I think that Kate and Jan can work on getting a block of Cubs tickets for us - or the tickets to Oprah - or maybe get Oprah to buy us the Cubs tickets... It seems to me that a year and a half should be far enough ahead to get seats.
I'm not knitting hats for everyone, though.
Steve
-
I accept this assignment, but will definitely need Kate to help me out as she seems to know a lot of things about the city that I don't - I'm such a suburbanite! Can I count on you, Kate?
We'll need to have an estimate of how many will be attending the show and the ballgame - and it would be nice to know the symposium agenda so we don't lose sight of why we will be in Chicago in the first place. Thanks for the reminder, Steve :)
It may actually be difficult to fit Oprah into our schedule, since the symposium is on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and Oprah probably only tapes on weekdays. Also, the Cubbies may be on the road - anyone know how early their 2009 schedule might be available?
And, Steve, don't worry about the hats; everyone doesn't need one - just me; I'm sure the others will understand. As my neurotologist likes to tell me - I'm special LOL
Jan
-
Well, I'm not a Cubs fan, but I suppose I could go anyway... I did hear mention of beer, right? Weehooo - then I say "Play Ball!".
A friend of mine was just on the Oprah show - it was taped last week to air in May sometime - something about weird childhood fears or something - she won't spill the beans, but I'll see if she's got some connections to get us tickets... I do think Oprah buying us tickets to the baseball game would be a nice idea. I'd do the same for her if I had a show and tons of spending money.
Lori

I would talk to the ANA about what it is wanted for the symposium as they themselves do not do the work of setting it all up but do thru an events organizer. They have used this one lady for the last 2 and I personally think it has been well done. Maureen is the events organizer and is an outside company. There were some organzied outside tours last time. She (or who ever is the one doing it) could maybe accomplish what just a individual might not be able to do.
The only problem there has been is having background music at the Sat night banquet which does not work for SSD people and that has went on multiple years.

GO RED SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, Phyl, any connections at the ANA Hdqtrs that could give us a heads up on "outside activities" that might be scheduled during the symposium? Or is there anyone we could lobby for specific activities? Cheryl also has a good point about the music. Who do we contact about something like this?

yeah, I got me a few connections...... Chicago, eh? Yep, you all note suggestions and I'll be the big-mouth...er.... requestor... for the suggestions.....
Phyl
-
Cool, Phyl 8)
I think right now we are at Cubs game & Oprah tickets. I don't know what types of events the people at ANA usually plan, but those have been the suggestions so far. It would also be nice if we could have some kind of ANA Discussion Forum reception so that we could meet each other. Maybe I'm pushing my luck in asking for this, but it's worth a try. I'm actually seriously considering being a symposium sponsor, so maybe they could some of my donation to fund something like this.
Anybody else have suggestions ???
Jan
-
You have a name tag that you wear at the symposium and everyone is on the lookout for other forum members. You soon kind of band together. There is a hospitality room with places to sit and talk with drinks and snacks. (tea, and coffee and that type beverages) It's not hard to find each other if one makes an effort. Usually the exhibit, lobby areas aren't all that big or spread out. The ANA should know if the same organizer is doing this symposium.
Cheryl R
-
Cheryl -
thanks for telling me about this; 2009 will be my first symposium, so I'm kind of clueless as to how it works. I, for one, will be more than willing to seek out other forum members since I will be attending the symposium by myself - a much needed break from my children. So, I'm hoping others will want to hang out with me.
BTW, yesterday I got my copy of Notes - the one I called the ANA and requested - then today, I got the original one they sent me ??? My mail person must have finally gotten done reading it LOL
Jan
-
Well, Jan, I don't know. If you decide to wear that weird beret, we might not want to hang out with you! :D Hopefully Steve will be done knitting your hat by then!
Lori
-
You know, I just threw out my beret yesterday. Don't know what made me wait so long. I must have been more attached to it than I originally thought ;D
I'm hoping Steve comes through with the knit hat by next August. No word from him recently :(
Jan
-
Gee whiz, its only been three days or so, I didn't realize there was a commitment involved... ;)
So it's going to be a Red Sox vs Cubs game, even though they are in different leagues? Boy, that Oprah is really good at pulling strings...
Speaking of pulling strings, I have yet to start knitting any hats. Are you sure you want a hot woolly beanie in the middle of August? I think maybe a yarmulke is more like it - isn't that pretty much a doily with a little dent in it? :)
Steve
-
Darn, do we have to wear hats? I guess since I'll be coming for my first one from Texas I can wear a cowboy hat! Hopefully by then this bad haircut will have grown out!!! Steve, do you knit cowboy hats, too?
Brenda
-
Oh my... I've been missing out on this thread..... I may have to see about coming to the symposium too
Oprah, Ballgame and Steve knitting hats.......Wow how exciting ;D
Maybe Oprah would consider flying us all to the symposium and giving us a little spending money too... I could come for sure then :D
I'll be hanging onto this thread.....
Glenda
-
Glenda -
there have been promises of brunch and drinks, also ;D
So definitely put the symposium on your list of things to do in 2009. It would be great to see you there!
The more, the merrier,
Jan
-
Whew, poor Steve is going to have to find a Carpal Tunnel Forum after knitting all these hats...
Lori
-
Last symposium I passed out 3 dozen pirate bandannas to people not to mention the 3 dozen I sent to forum members as "uniforms." It was easy to spot folks. I found Batty P right off the bat by her PBW T shirt! We never did find "Flyersfan", though, but we found just about everyone else. We need Oprah to have Mark Ruffalo on the Oprah show to tell his story, and then all of us there for support and she needs to "Give Big" and buy us all transears which we will have fitted on our cruise! Nice fantasty huh?
Also, the band at the last Symposium put me to sleep. If we're going to have loud, let's go all the way and get Crazycat and his band! Rawk On!
Capt Deb 8)
-
Mark Ruffalo on Oprah is a fantastic idea!
We could ask her to do a whole "AN" theme and talk about the symposium as well.
I'll let Steve off the hook for my knitted hat, if I can have a pirate bandanna ;)
-
I wonder how long it would take me to drive to Chicago??? have a fear of flying ...and it makes my
arms hurt...
This sound like a fun trip but probably couldn't swing it ... but nice to dream
-
Soundy -
maybe we can lobby the ANA to have the 2011 Symposium in your neck of the woods.
If we start our campaign now, we might be able to convince them. I'd imagine they haven't picked a location that far in advance, but I could be wrong.
Jan
-
I just told Dave the other day that we (or at least me) might have to go to Chicage in August of '09. Sounds like a blast to me if you guys are all there...Jan, are we all having a slumber party at your house?? He ask me about the actual symposium - I told him I didn't know a thing about it - that I was just in for the baseball game, Oprah show, drinks, hats, & whatever else there was!!! :D
K

When I emailed the Oprah Show, I asked about having Mark Ruffalo on as a special guest, so that people can see that no one is immune, plus maybe he could get a special invitation to the Symposium? Phyl??
Brenda

I looked on the home page for info about the last symposium so you might get a view of what goes on but they have removed it and just tells the date for the next one.
A typical symposium starts on noon or so Fri with a general session to the whole group. Later there are the small group sessions on varied topics and you have picked out ahead which one you want to attend. The Hospitality room is open in the am. there also have been some tours and non AN related events in the AM. Fri night is free although they do have group sessions where one can just meet and talk about your own experience with ANs. Sat am is a breakfast and more large general sessions and then later the small group ones again on varied topics. Lunch is provided and more sessions. That evening is a banquet. Sun am has varied with either breakfast or a later brunch and more sessions of both types.
We have always came on Thurs and then stayed over for a few days to dosightseeing. They usually give you the discounted room rate for a few days for that purpose.
We did not rent a car for the Anaheim or Philadelphia but just used shuttle or taxi to the hotel. We did rent a car for the Orlando one and it has all worked out well. We are from a rather rural area so not used to alot of large city driving.
Cheryl R
-
Sounds like fun...
hmmmmmmmmmmm Nashville ...Huntsville Alabama or Birmingham sounds good as a location
My husband told me Chicago isn't really that far away to drive ...this from a man that will hardly go to Huntsville
with us because it is toooooooo far from home ....45 minute drive away ...
living in the sticks I am not real used to or fond of driving in big cities... I have found my way including side
streets to get from doctor to doctor in Nashville and don't do alot of rambling about Huntsville either ... just right to
where I want to go and back... and most trips come back thinking there is probably something there I would like to
see or places I would like to go if it was not for driving around to find them
-
When I emailed the Oprah Show, I asked about having Mark Ruffalo on as a special guest, so that people can see that no one is immune, plus maybe he could get a special invitation to the Symposium? Phyl??
Brenda
Geesh! My newsletter article brought all this on? my oh my! ;)
ok, did some checking... it seems that many celebs that have endured AN journeys are not interested in doing public works about their journeys. M. Ruffalo and many other celebs (there actually exists a "celeb" AN file) have been approached to participate and contribute for other AN patients and due to their own private, particular reasons (primarly, since they are in the public eye and since many are "disabled" in one form or another by their AN's journeys), they prefer to remain low key when it comes to their AN life or, as many here do... just move along in life ......
It was shared with me (by the powers that be) that any attempt to having him participate as a potential speaker or guest, etc, to discuss his AN journey needs to be done directly through his agent. M. Ruffalo, directly, has had communications with the powers that be of the ANA.... but, he now prefers to keep the public's focus on his accomplishments in the entertainment community and less focus on his AN journey.
that is the long and short of it as of today......

Phyl
Thanks for the information on Mark. I was trying to track him down. I've worked with him before briefly on Zodiac and I thought he might be open to talking about it and giving others encouragement. I wonder why he's so resistant. If I run into him again, I'll ask -- carefully.
Other celebs seem to be supportive in hearing issues. William Shatner is very involved in Tinnitus work.
I guess it's a personal thing. Maybe I'll have to become famous and I can talk about it. When ever I get back to work :-\
David
-
Phyl,
I knew that if anyone could find out what the deal was with Mr Ruffalo, it would be you. You are faster than Wonder Woman!!!!
Hugs,
Brenda
-
Thanks for checking, Phyl.
I don't want to be negative here, but I'm personally disappointed in Mr. Ruffalo's reluctance to be seen as an "AN spokemodel" so to speak. It's obviously his right to choose not to do this and I'm sure he has his reasons, but I'm disappointed nonetheless :(
IMO, it would be a great opportunity to bring ANs to the attention of the general public and I personally think it would only add something positive to his image - not that his imagine is currently negative. I guess I just can't imagine this being a negative for him; but then again, I'm not in the entertainment business.
I was going to say that we should lobby his agent, but we'd probably have an easier time convincing Oprah to do a show about ANs. She's probably more the type of personality to do something like this.
And, David, I'm all for you becoming famous and choosing to represent us,
Jan
-
Jan
Me too. And if I become famous I promise to make ANdom my cause. It may take a while though -- because it seems that once I am through recovery well enough to go back to work, we're facing another strike. Ugh. So maybe that fame will have to come through commercials instead. More money in that anyway.
David
-
Just read backwards and realized that I missed a few posts before Phyl's.
K -
slumber party at my house would be great but I'd never have room for all of you guys! Besides, my house is always messy and I'm truly looking forward to spending a few days at The Drake without my kids. Nothing personal - I love my kids - but sometimes a mom just has to get away ;)
Cheryl R -
thanks for the example of the symposium agenda; good to know how things work since this will be my first time. I love your suggestion of staying an extra day or two, gives us more time to watch baseball, see Oprah, drink, wear our knit hats or bandannas, etc.
Soundy -
I say, if your husband is willing to make the trip take advantage of it! Hopefully the registration information will be out soon and once you register and book your room it will be harder for him to say it's too far to go ;) It's probably not a short trip to Chicago, but once you are here you can pretty much keep the car in park. The Drake is located very close to just about everything and if you care to venture farther, there is always public transportation. I'll probably go the public transportation route myself, since I hated city driving even before my AN and Chicago to me is somewhat like a foreign country. I grew up in the suburbs and haven't spent as much time in Chicago as most would imagine. I didn't even take the "L" until 3 years ago when I had to attend divorce court in the Daley Plaza. Even then, I sometimes got lost just going around the block - navigating it with a wonkyhead is sure to be an exciting adventure LOL
Jan
-
Jan
Me too. And if I become famous I promise to make ANdom my cause.
David -
speaking of making ANdom your cause, I had an opportunity to talk to Judy Vitucci, the Executive Director of the ANA today. In the course of our conversation, I told her how you have been writing about your AN journey in one of the posts here and that I had encouraged you to look into having it included in a future issue of "Notes". I told her that you seemed pretty open to this and she seems to be very interested. She may be contacting you about this.
I know it's not a paying job, but it is for a good cause :)
And, when you do become famous, don't forget all us "little people".
Jan
-
Hey Jan
Thanks. I do hope she contacts me. I know it's non-paying in the monetary sense, but there are other things that are far more rewarding. And by the way, we are all little people with brave hearts.
I Samuel 17
David
-
I say we get David to be the guest speaker at the symposium. To heck with those "other" celebrities that don't want to help the cause. Besides, we all know David - so that makes him famous to us, right?
And David, when you are really, really, really famous - Jan and I can be your agents. Doesn't that sound like a great idea? Okay, maybe it's a great idea if you don't want to work again....
Lori
-
Lori
Quite amuzing. Although I have had a past of public speaking in my corporate days. Always with a big audio/visual thing. That was long ago.
As far as being famous -- LOL -- there are about 30,000 other "famous" people like me in Hollywood. The closest I came to fame was when some elderly lady came up to me in a store and said "Say aren't you the carpet guy?" I was a carpet salesman in a Home Base commercial for a couple of years. And I did sign an autograph once -- the Caveman ad I did on the back of TV Guide. That's about the extent of my fame.
And as far as being really famous -- I hate to disillusion you, but I'm putting in two more years to qualify for my pension and then I'm getting out of here.
Thanks again for the synkinesis advice. I gotta deal with that before I even think about acting again.
David
-
You know, one of the things I like about Lori - in addition to all the great BAHA information and tips she shares with us - is the fact that she's very interested in helping me make money LOL
And, David, public speaking! All I can say is, you are truly a brave man!
Jan
-
Jan
LOL. To be honest with you, giving speeches at conventions is far easier than auditions and speaking on-camera. I've had a teleprompter for most of the big meetings. When you're acting, you're speaking, emoting, moving and hitting marks while making it look natural with a camera lens right in front of your face -- and a director, crew and other actors hanging out behind the camera. I think I'm talking myself out of going back.
David

Jan... my husband would not come with me to Chicago if I made it ... if he isn't on home soil by midnight
he will turn into a pumpkin... :)
he lived in one house til he was two and a new house was built and the old torn down and lived in the
new house til we married and moved to the house we built about 1000 feet from his parents home ...
he has spent six nights away from home in his whole life... one night each
when our daughters were born...and he was hospitalized at 5 years old with strept...
-
Jan... my husband would not come with me to Chicago if I made it ... if he isn't on home soil by midnight

Then by all means, come without him ;D
-
Jan, I'm just hoping you'll share it with me!! :D
Besides, I'm terrible at math - I figure I'll need a business partner who can add.
Soundy, I have a brother-in-law who sounds like your husband. I think he's grown roots where they live - which is a block away from where he grew up. I guess some people just like the comforts of home. I do to, but I have no problem with enjoying the comforts of a hotel - where there is someone else to make the bed and pick the dirty towels up off the bathroom floor for a change!
Lori
-
Jan, I'm just hoping you'll share it with me!! :D
Besides, I'm terrible at math - I figure I'll need a business partner who can add.
Lori
It's a deal, but I'm still trying to decide if we should pin our hopes on David becoming even more famous than he already is, if we should market all your great BAHA ideas, or if we should go with your husband and his garage-surgery business. So little time, so many choices!
Jan
-
Well, I just finished cleaning out my garage, so we could probably start booking appointments for surgery any time! That should hold us over until David gets his Oscar nomination or we get enough orders for BAHA cake boxes - whichever comes first. We'll need to save up some money for that trip to Chicago next year. Well, not much of a trip for you, but you'll want to eat once you're downtown.
Lori
-

True, I'll definitely need some spending money for the Hershey's store ;D

I have a couple of old strollers I need to get rid of -- you want to throw some plywood on them and use them for the operating tables...they'd roll pretty well...they even have locking brakes...
Just a thought!

Great idea, K. What do you think, Lori ? Should we cut her in on the deal ???
Jan

Don't worry about the money. I order Canadian and US money every Monday for Thursday delivery, just send my your request. I'll charm my way through US customs.

Well, maybe the locking brakes might be a good idea. I live on a hill. Wouldn't want our patients to roll away on us.. Safety first.
And, as an added benefit, my husband has his beer making supplies in the garage - we can use that for anaesthesia. Or to toast our success afterward.
Annmarie, can you place an order for me. Small bills, please. ;)
Lori
-
Unmarkred of course ;D
-
Annmarie - I see you've done this before... ;)
Just kidding - don't want the Mounties coming to your house to arrest you or anything! It's still too cold up there for me to come bail you out of jail. You'd have to wait until summer.
Lori
-
Do they really have Mounties in Canada? 8)
I remember Dudley Doright when I was a kid, but I wasn't sure how true to life that was.
BTW, what was his horse's name ??? I'm thinking Trigger, but I know I'm wrong!
Jan
-
Yes you silly girl, they really have mounties in Canada. The proper name is The Royal Mounted Police. They are Canada's national police force.
-
Cool 8) Do they wear red uniforms like in the cartoon?
And what was the name of Dudley's horse? I was thinking Nell, but that was probably his girlfriend's name.
-
Yes when in uniform the jacket is red and the pants are black with a red stripe. There is a hat also, don't remember the proper name, 4 might since she's a Canadian girl.
Yes, Nell is the girlfriend and I do believe the Mountie's name is Dudley Do Right. Come on my follow Canadians help me out here, I'm on prednisone and my brain and fingers aren't co-operating at the moment.

I ask my sweet hubby the name of the horse b/c: A) he always remembers weird stuff like that & B) he lived in Canada for a good while...but, much to my astonishment, he didn't know. I ask him this morning so maybe he has thought about it all day & has come up with the answer!! He has taken all 3 girlies to the LIBRARY (bet he won't do that again!! ;D)...sure is quiet around here!
K
-
OK...I looked it up & what I read said that the horses name was...are you ready for this???? HORSE!!!! Go figure!
K
-
Horse ??? LOL
-
I was a huge fan of Dudley Do Right and Rocky and Bullwinkle when I was a kid. Actually I still am. (Why are they still not on the air?) But I wracked my brain over the name of DDR's horse. I completely drew a blank. I would never have guessed Horse -- but you're right.
And Anne Marie, while it was a bit before your time, I loved the Sargeant Preston and Yukon King show. Ever hear of it before?
David
-
I remember Sargeant Preston and the Yukon King Show. It was on every Saturday morning along with some other great shows. (where I lived) I also remember going to Niagra Falls and crosssing over into the Canadian side just so we could see the Mounties. We went often.

Those Canadians are so creative, eh? Naming a horse "Horse". Anyone remember "Petticoat Junction" with the dog named... you guessed it "Dog"?
Lori
-
Lori~
I used to love Petticoat Junction - I loved the opening where there was the water tower & train...
K
-
I don't remember Sargeant Preston and the Yukon King Show, but I remember Petticoat Junction!
Anyone remember Clutch Cargo? I don't really recall what it was about, but I remember the guy's mouth was kind of like a steam shovel. It's weird the things you remember from childhood - or from last week when you watched TV Land ;D
I used to love Tom & Jerry and Heckle and Jeckle.
The shows my kids watch these days are so pathetic ::)
Jan
-
thanks for the gray hairs, folks.... I'll be sending you all the hairdresser's bill for the hair color she's now going to have to do on me......
-
Jan~
My girlies LOVE Tom & Jerry -- they watch this one video over & over...it is so funny. I agree - some of the other stuff they want to watch is just TRASH!!!
K
-
Nope, I don't remember the Sargeant Preston and Yukon King show, just a little too young ;D
Being married to a much older man LOL, my husband remembers. He was one of the first kids to have coloured TV. The day Elvis died was the first day we had coloured TV. Talk about being deprived!!!
I remember Petticoat Junction and Uncle Charlie. Do you remember My 3 Sons? I loved that show and their Uncle Charlie too.
A walk down memory lane............ I love the Honey Mooners, Ed Sullivan Show, the Red Skelton Show.........were's that hair dye,
Anne Marie

AM~
OH MY GOODNESS!! I LOVED My Three Sons...I guess now I have my own My Three Daughters...
Is your husband really older? Mine is -- that is why I have always said that he spoils me so much b/c he thought that he was going to be a bachelor for all his life!! LOL!! I am ALL for older men!! ;D
K
-
Oh, the Honeymooners.... I love that show. I got the set of DVD's of a bunch of them for Christmas last year!
I grew up with 3 sisters - no brothers. My poor Dad... a friend of his made him a sign that hung out in the front of our house that said "Petticoat Junction" on it.
I'm always telling my older kids about how the old cartoons were so much better than what they have on today. Nothing like Bugs Bunny and Wile E. Coyote...super genious.... Ah, the good old days...
Lori
-
Wasn't the uncle on Petticoat Junction Uncle Joe ???
I remember that because the song at the beginning says something about Uncle Joe moving kind of slow.
It's shocking the things that stick in my head from so long ago; I don't know if I should be amazed or appalled :D
Lori, haven't you heard that Wile E. Coyote is now considered to be a violent cartoon? Probably because he was always trying to blow the roadrunner up with TNT or drop anvils on his head.
Jan
-
Yep, your right!!! Cheap drugs I'm on clouding my brain.
-
Lori, haven't you heard that Wile E. Coyote is now considered to be a violent cartoon? Probably because he was always trying to blow the roadrunner up with TNT or drop anvils on his head.
That is so lame, and such an uneducated view of the world. The predator-prey relationship is a profoundly important element of the ecological balance of nature. Wile E. was doing what any good coyote should do - hunt for prey. And Roadrunner was doing what any good prey should do - run away.
The ineptness of Wile E. at completing his task taught us valuable lessons about the foolishness of playing with dangerous things. (I can't say the depictions helped anyone learn physics, though).
Besides, when I was a kid, a movie was not a good movie unless it began with a Roadrunner cartoon. ;)

Steve -
I agree. My siblings and I loved Wile E. Coyota/Roadrunner when we were kids - watched it all the time on Saturday mornings. I couldn't believe it when I heard it referred to as violent.
Guess it's all in the way you care to spin it ::)
Jan
-
Jan, you're right - it was Uncle Joe - which was even more fitting of my family, because my Dad's name is Joe. And these days, he does move kinda slow.
Wile E. - violent? Please. I guess the people who decided that have never watched any of the current cartoons or video games. I think there were very valuable lessons in those cartoons. I have to say, to this day, I've never had an anvil land on my head - thanks to watching cartoons. How are kids today going to learn to watch out for things like that?
Lori
-
Lori~
You know, come to think of it, I've never had an anvil fall on my head either...
K
-
No anvil for me either - although at times it's felt like it ;)
