I'm just about 10 months post and there is still a large portion of my scalp that is numb. How long does it usually take for this to subside?

17 months post op and still numb and sometimes very tender. Its weird. I guess we are are a bunch of numbskulls eh? LOL ;D

very amusing comment about numbskulls LOL
I'm almost 9 months post op and still have slight numbness and there are days when my scalp around the scar feels "tight".

I am thirty-one months out from translab and the whole side of my head is still numb! I do have occassional sensitivity where my scar is and where the ,getting bigger by the day, major indention is.

You know Brenda, you're right! - I'm feeling around the temporal area, & yes, it is still numb! What a numbskull - I can't even tell what's numb or not!

Thanks for the input. It helps to know that other folks have this same problem. I also have the feeling of tightness in the incision area and some days it's worse than others. I guess it's just one more of those "learn to live with it" consequences of surgery.

Interesting. I am not numb at all. I wonder if this has something to do with nerve type pain in the back of my head. Maybe numb works like a nerve block. Are any of the daily headache people numbskulls?

I'm 12 months post-op next week and I'm still (or maybe.. always have been) a numbskull - but not a daily headache person. I have one section that isn't quite numb, but feels like my hair hurts. I guess it's just hypersensitive in that spot. It's kinda weird, but I guess I'd rather be numb than in pain.

Well, I have you all beat...I am 12 years and 2 months post-op!! I remember that my scalp was VERY sensitive for a long time, but don't really notice it now. I would notice it the most when I would get my hair colored and she would pull on that side -- i don't think it was undue pressure as it didn't bother me on the rest of my head. I guess I would say that my scalp doesn't have as much feeling on that side. It is one of those things that comes along w/ it & I don't really ever think about it anymore! I have always been a NUMBSKULL!! I did have horrible headaches before my surgery, but thank goodness, none now!

I am a numbskull - and a fathead to boot ;D - but I have no headaches; daily or otherwise.

I got a huge scar after my first surgery and was numb for at least 3 years after which the intense itching started. The scalp numbness was lessening but the itching increased. Unfortunately, it did not prevent headaches at all. Sorry, Janet, I am an exception to your theory about the existing numbness and no headaches! I could not feel the sensation but I could definitely feel the pain. Weird, huh? I was over 30 days in the hospital and I did ask a question about it. The answer was that the surgeons cut the nerves on the scalp that control the sensation but those are peripheral nerves and eventually they regenerate. They did but it took a few years.

I suppose we all react differently. While my incision healed quickly, the 'tightening' feeling lasted for months, post-op, as the area healed but eventually (close to a year) that sensation subsided. The 'incision side' of my skull was rather numb for about 18 months post-op but that has also returned to feeling near-normal. The area is a bit less sensitive to the touch but no longer feels numb. I never had any pain there. It seems as if the feeling does return as the nerves all heal but the timeline varies with the individual.
