Title: Mark Ruffalo interview on NPR

Did anyone hear the 2007 Mark Ruffalo interview on NPR?  It was replayed 12/27/07 on NPR Fresh Air. You can download the podcast at NPR. org.

He talks extensively about his experiences with his acoustic neuroma.

It is interesting.  He had balance issues, hearing loss, facial paralysis.

I saw him interviewed on Inside the Actor's Studio.  Very interesting.

I have heard several interviews with him about his tumor.  Something seems strange because when he talks about it he doesnt seem to know that it was an AN.  He says things like "the doctors have no idea why I had facial paralysis or deafness."   OR he talks about it being a noncancerous brain tumor.  And ANs are non cancerous (thank goodness) but it could be said that AN's are noncancerous.   Sometimes I wonder if he is playing it up a little.  Of course when I told Eric this he said to me incredulously,  "How do you play up a brain tumor?"  Good point.  But I do wonder if he even know it was an AN.  I have never heard him say it was an AN.

I totally agree...i have done so much research on him because it is cool to have someone famous go through what we are going through....he doesn't ever call it an AN....weird....

You know, it might just be the term he's most comfortable with using.

I was at the doc's yesterday and he referred to my AN surgery and talked about when he removed my "tumor".  I said, you mean my "AN" - I don't like to call it that (meaning tumor). 

Technically we were both right, but I just don't like to refer to my AN as my tumor.  Not sure why  ???

When my ENT got the results of my diagnostic MRI, he called me and told me I had a "growth in my ear" - never used the words acoustic neuroma or tumor.  My first introduction to acoustic neuroma was on the MRI report and I couldn't find a medical dictionary fast enough.

BTW, Robyn, your son is so right.  Kind of cute "How do you play up a brain tumor?"  :)

Hi all,

In one of the interviews I read about Mark Ruffalo he said that he did a bit of phone counselling for newly diagnoseds?  I thought it was shame he didn't highlight the symptoms as that's something I am telling everyone not to ignore - any tinnitus or feeling of pressure/fullness on one-side get themselves off to a specialist - I didn't realise that here (UK) just having one-sided tinnitus should get you a referral to an ENT specialist on the NHS.  Too late for me as I ignored my 'niggles' until it was too late for my hearing...

....I call mine (amongst many expletives!) a benign growth as once you mention the word 'tumour' people don't seem to take in anything else you say....
