Title: Gender affected rate ?
Post by: satman on December 04, 2007, 12:22:28 pm
Is there any way to start a poll ?
It would be interesting to see if A N affects one gender more than the other.
When I was in in-patient re-hab it seemed that women were affected more.
I was the only male on the floor.
I think those women had A N ,they all had the question mark looking incision.
It might have been something different,no one really brought up thier ailements. [sp?]

Ok Satman, I'm female, but my incision is kind of straight up and down!  I had no question about what I had done..........................

Female here too - with the question mark incision.

Looks like men looking to find a girlfriend should start hanging out in the neuro unit.  Odds are pretty good.   :D

Satman, do you mean there are more women with AN's than men or that AN's have more of an effect on women than men?  I know the general stats are 51% women and 49% men diagnosed with AN.

Yup.  Another interesting bit....a bunch of us used to spend a lot more time on frappr.com, and we were able to map all the left, right and NF2ers on it....left and right were pretty much 50-50 as well, so no side is more prevalent than another.

Consensus seems to be that AN's go through growth spurts when women are pregnant, so maybe that has something to do with the little bit more women than men thing....who knows, just a speculation.

I think your question was answered as about 51%/49% but your observation at the rehab facility may be a different question. Maybe something like, Which gender on a general basis has a tougher time recovering from from AN surgery and utilitizes rehab facilities. That may explain more females to male ratio at the rehab facility. This is by no means a slight against any gender. I am a male and had to and still am dealing with the entire recovery process. I chose not to go to rehab and do it myself at home. Maybe I'm just hard headed.
