As most of my A N family members know , I had a 17 1/2 hr surgery to remove 8 cm tumor and I was in I.C.U. for 6 days ,3 of those were in a induced coma, with a hospital stay of 15 days. From there I was transferred to a in patient re-hab, for close to a month,I had in-home re-hab for 2 or 3 weeks ,sorry i dont remember exactly. All of this started on april 1 2007. I was then scheduled for the 7-12 nerve jump [to get facial movement back], this surgery was supposed to be 2 hrs ,turned into 8. i have been going to out patient since june,i had a lot of things to work on, i have went from wheelchair to walker to cane,to nothing. After25 1/2 hrs of surgery in a 4 month period I noticed my hair was falling out.[that has stopped].
I still have facial paralysis , some balance issues, deaf in left ear ,left eye that will not blink, eating is a mess ,and a few other issues.
Well today was my last day of therapy and I thought that day would never come.I'm still stiff legged and walking like OZZY,but I
get to where I'm going ,now I just have to do the exercises on my own. I still have a very long road ahead ,but at least I have
reached some sort of sign.

And the sign is TWO THUMBS UP!!!!
Congrats!

John: I think it's amazing how much the body/soul can endure - you are an example of that. I wish you great results with the 7/12, once again, patience is needed for that; but after all you've gone thru, you know all about it.
Always good thoughts, Nancy

Hi, John:
Congratulations! :)
Your optimism and determination in the face of what must have seemed like overwhelming obstacles remain an encouragement for all AN patients. You may not realize it but you are admired and respected by lots of folks you've never met. I wish you continued recovery and reason to celebrate in the near future. You've earned it.

Mazol Tov !! I am so happy for you. One step at a time and it seems to be working quite well for you. This summer I got to donate my walker to a Vet form WWII and he was the happiest guy in the world but I was happier because I felt resurrected form that part of my life. Rather than have it languish in my basement and be a constant reminder, I put it to continued good use. good for you. Now, enjoy the coming weekend off, you deserve it. Holly
