how awesome is that!!!!

2 weeks ago I watched as a blue Jay painstakingly built her nest close to my dining room windows. It was so amazing to watch, but sadly a few hours later it was destroyed. Squirrels >:(

Bruce, thank you for sharing this with us!

Hi Bruce,

What a great idea! I'm from Indiana, and the Cardinal is our state bird. It makes it even more exciting! I hope they hatch?  Ann

How much fun can you have?  Today at 1:45 CT the Cardinal arranged the eggs and sat down into the nest.  Thank you so much, Bruce.

Hi Bruce,

I'm really enjoying watching the cardinal.  Yesterday, the nest was empty for the time I was viewing, but today I got to see the bird in the nest and watched her fly away.  I called my son up and he watched it with me.  Thanks for posting it.

By the way, I'm starting my 28 day FSR tomorrow.  I feel good about the choice and the team that's working with me at Piedmont.  Crocker actually was there last week, and my file just happened to be on the radiologist's desk.  He consulted with him on the treatment plan.  What a wonderfully synchronistic experience.

The tumor is very close to the brain stem, but there also seems to be an area of necrosis already located in the center of the tumor.  It's so hard to tell on an MRI what you're looking at, but it looks like a dark hole on the films.  I'm taking that as a promising sign.

Ms Cardinal is fun to watch.         I decided to try to get the website without going thru the AN site and discovered that if you forget the s on camstreams you get females of a much different nature.  My oh my!               I also put in www but found you don't need that either, just the http.                      We feed several types of birds as live in the country so am looking forward to the babies.             I am glad you shared the site to your fellow ANers.

This is totally cool! I watched the mama bird today and can't wait for the babies to hatch.  I had wrens build a nest in my little greenhouse on a shelf behind the fertilizer and I had to wait for them to fledge before I could Miracle-Gro. I would sneek in and peek at them while mamabird went for food. I was really fun.

Hi Bruce,

Momma Cardinal is just too cute. I catch myself turning on the computer a couple of times a day just to watch her. She was gone for a while earlier in the afternoon and I was worried that she wasn't coming back. But I just checked the webcam and there she is, doing what moms do best, taking care of the little ones! Thanks again! Ann

Thanks again Bruce (and Sheryl for giving me a heads up on this!  :-* )

I love the visual, but for the life of me I can't tell if I hear cardinal chirps, the airconditioner, or my own tinnitus! My head chirps and hums all on its own, all day long.

Bruce,

Watch the number of hits count go up... I shared this link with co-workers and some in my office bldg... we are hooked!  This is SO addictive and we are all waiting with baded breath on the babies arrivals (it's minimized on my computer desktop)!  I think the girls in my office bldg are now going to hold a baby shower for the baby cardinals.

Cardinal cam is now addictive... thanks a bunch, Bruce! Dang you!!!!!!!!  ;)

(sorry Ann... it's been minimized on my desk all day at work... me bad.... )

Bruce, make it Cuban Vanilla! :D

OMG! she's such a doting mom!  Everytime she tries to settle/sit in the nest to protect the babes and keep them warm, I think someone is "poking" her from underneath cuz then, she jumps up!  She's protecting them, keeping warm and OMG, she is feeding them in such a way, brings tears to my eyes. Oh, the joys of mother nature! Bruce, thank you (and the folks at camstreams) for sharing this with us! :)

Ok, baby announcement!

Momma Cardinal would like to annouce the arrival of twin... um... boys... girls... boy/girl...er... birds on (or about) June 20th in the early hours.  The twins weigh in at...er.... less an 2 oz(?) and are a length of.....er... .um..... petite.  Grandfather is Mr. Brucifer of GA and the twins have many aunts and uncles based on the AN Discussion forum website.  Momma and babies are healthy and fine

(gawd, someone else come up with one better, will ya?)

After spending the last few days being constantly "poked at" by my little ones I can feel for her lack of ability to rest.  Never any downtime for a new mom!  ;-)

Mama Cardinal and I both really need a nap.  Or perhaps I'm just projecting onto her a bit...   ;)

Hi Bruce,

It is just amazing how instinctive birds are (as well as all animals)!  I've been watching her take care of her chicks for a few minutes.  I also can't believe that they hatched right on time.  Thanks so much Bruce for letting us all get a peak at mother nature's miracle.  I'll be watching over the next 10 days like everyone else.  By the way, it's around 7 pm, and I had no trouble logging on.

We saw the FAther (bright red) check in this afternoon.  He gave the mum some food.  They were each feeding the babes.
Either food is scarce or the mum knows how much they need to get their own strength and motivation to forage.  These babes want a hand out constantly.

Hey Grandpa Bruce,

Your "Momma" bird didn't appear to be feeding both of her babies! One looks stronger than the other and it was the stronger one that got fed! Both babies were begging for food, and she just watched them! I couldn't watch anymore! I felt helpless! Can you sneak them some food?? Please??

How wonderful to watch.  It's amazing that since I lost my hearing a year a go I enjoy hearing our birds early in the morning sing.  My favorite time of the day now with a good cup of coffee. Bruce, I did see the bird take the baby.  I wasn't sure if that was what had happened, but thought so.  It's ok though.  We all enjoyed it so much, before that.  Many  times we have found a baby laying on the ground that fell out of it's nest, and didn't make it.  Sorry for you as I know you must have got attached to the little guy.  BB

I saw momma guarding the nest something fierce this afternoon and had a feeling the jays were coming in... I am so so so sorry to hear this news.  As you know, many of us around me have been enjoying mother nature at her best... and now at her worse.  My heart is heavy knowing this has happened and am thrilled that I got to witness the family portrait together today.

So sorry to hear that a jay took a baby. Poor little tykes.  Did any of you watch Planet Earth when it was on the Discovery Channel awhile back?  Magnificent photography and magnificent creatures caught in some truly outstanding moments of time. The photographers did an amazing job of capturing wild life as they are...and that includes the weakest becoming somebody elses lunch.  Although, I thought they did a pretty nice job of not showing that side very much, because most of us aren't comfortable seeing nests being robbed etc..

Thanks for the webcam anyway, Bruce.  I only saw it twice, but it was fun to see the birds.

Have a good weekend.

I am so sorry Bruce.  I know it has to be so disappointing after all the work you put into the webcam.  I must say, it was the best view I have ever seen from a webcam.  The picture was so clear.

Such is nature.  My dog would catch rabbits monthly.  I couldn't get mad at her, she was a golden retriever.  It is what they do.

If anyone wants to see a few bald eagles fledge, gennysmom gave me this link a few months ago:  http://wdfw.wa.gov/wildwatch/eaglecam/index.html (http://wdfw.wa.gov/wildwatch/eaglecam/index.html)  The eaglets hatched about May 1.  They are starting to get very restless and you can catch them flapping their wings often.  The Kent nest has two eaglets. The Puget Sound nest has one.  There was another egg in the Puget Sound nest that never hatched.  The egg finally disappeared last week.

Have a good week everyone and again, thank you Bruce.

OMG...I just went to the website because I had been busy all day and I am so sad.  My mother will be too since she staarted viewing on Saturday.  What a shame, but it was a wonderful treat, honestly.  My husband and I live in Vermont and we feed the birds all year and watch them out our kitchen window.  I have to say we were captured by that webcam of yours and watched it at great length.  We are looking forward to the new hummingbirdcam.

Bruce,
Thanks so much for the life lesson of never expecting things to turn out the way we want.  Which is why we are all here in the first place.  It was a real treat.  I guess the reason we were all so fascinated is that none of us passes up an opportunity to celebrate life in any way shape or form anymore. We all know there are lots of other brain tumors out there that many folks don't get to survive.

Thanks also for the opportunity to save on my sugar bill.  My hummies go through a full feeder every three days.

Obita--the eagle cam is AWESOME!!!! Thanks to Gennysmom for sending it to ya.  I watched a Mama (or Papa--are the females really different like the cardinals?) feeding it's baby today.  They are officially off the endangered species list as of this week thanks to folks like Kathleen.

Peace

Thanks from me, too, Bruce for the webcam and the opportunity to see the nest. I did learn something, because I didn't know that Jays would do that.  We don't have Cardinals here in the West, so I was looking forward to seeing more of them...but.

Anyway...maybe next year!  Or do they have another try at a new family this year.  Anyone...anyone?
