Title: Mykey's "marble" is gone!
Post by: mykey on May 01, 2007, 09:31:47 pm
Hello all AN friends. This is mykey's wifey, Lisa. Just wanted you all to know that Mykey's translab surgery was successfully done last Thursday 4/26 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta by Dr. Mattox and Dr. Olson. They were pleased to remove the entire tumor and all nerves remain intact. Any weakness should be temporary. He is being released from the hospital tomorrow!
You have been a wonderful support for both of us through these past 4 months since his diagnosis, we cannot thank you enough! I'm sure he will post himself soon, once he gets back in the swing of things.
Thanks again for being here! It is so important...You guys are great. Lisa

Lisa and Mykey,
Congratulations to your doctors for a successfull surgery! Very glad to hear it went well. Hoping to hear from the patient how his recovery is going and until then it's awsome to hear from you. This says much about your devotion to mykey and the positive attitude you project in your posts. As you must have been reading from other posts regarding post surgery and healing you will probably tire of the saying, "Give yourself time, time to physically heal, adjust to what is different in your life (this means both of you) and say goodby to the old and hello to the new!"

Congrats.
Get him lots of rest, and don't let him be pigheaded like I was post-op, and try to do too much too soon.

Hi all. It's mykey's wifey, Lisa again. Well, we were literally 10 minutes from being discharged from the hospital last Wednesday when we noticed a small drop of fluid around his incision. Sure enough, it started to leak CSF. He was so disappointed!! :'( So now he's back in ICU with a drain. Today is day 4, and they began cutting back on the drainage, so hopefully in a few days he'll be done with that and will be able to come home.
Other than that, any weakness is already showing a noticeable improvement and he's looking great! He's still anxious, but he's trying his best to relax and sleep through it. I'm sure many of you can relate.
So, just wanted you to know. I'm sure he'll be posting soon as a "postie" -
thanks, Lisa

Hi, Lisa:
Thanks for the update.
So sorry to read about the incision leak, but this can sometimes happen with AN surgery. While Mykey is naturally frustrated and anxious, just as I would be in his situation, at least he seems to be otherwise recuperating pretty rapidly. I'm certain your emotional support and physical presence is helping him more than you know. I hope he'll be home by the weekend. Our prayers are with you both.
Jim

Good news! Mykey came home last night!! ;D
He's feeling good and slowly getting around more and more. It's amazing what home can do for your recovery and spirits! Your good wishes have been amazing and he is so thankful.
He knows he needs time to heal and have everything come back to "normal" so he's just going with the flow for now. Not so sure he'll remain so patient after a week or two, but we'll see!
Brucifer - good luck with your appointment with Dr. Mattox! Let us know how it goes and what you decide. We have a follow up on Friday with he and Dr. Olson. I can tell you, we cannot say enough good things about them both! They were great to me (and obviously Michael too!) the day of surgery, and thereafter. We feel very fortunate to have found them and to live in Atlanta so close to Emory. Even in the hospital, every nurse I spoke with said that if they ever needed brain surgery, Dr. Olson would be the one! He really is fantastic, and the nicest man. And those who knew Dr. Mattox were equally as complimentary (although in ICU we were under Dr. Olson's care so they were most familiar with him.) Also, the new Neuro ICU floor at Emory is quite amazing. I think it's been open about 4 months. Felt like we got the presidential suite! Even I had my own room connected to his.
So thanks again everyone...Mykey will be online soon.
Wifey Lisa
