Post by: Battyp on April 12, 2007, 06:33:49 pm
I know strange question but...my mom just got back and forgot to cash in her ticket at the casino so asked me if I knew anyone she could sent it to so they could benefit as she didn't want to give it to the casino :o)
Send me a PM is you are near gulfport or beauxrivage.. Not sure how to spell that.

Hi Michelle,
I'm only 2 hours away but don't have any plans of going any time soon. I used to enjoy going to Gulfport before the Hurrican. All the beautiful 200 year old beach front homes are gone. Just cement steps where all the house once stood. The only thing that has built back is the Casinos. It's a very sad place!

Thanks for the offer.

Boy do I miss our trips to Biloxi/Gulfport.  Used to be a fantastic charter out of Fort Myers - $199 round trip, two nights hotel, two buffet dinners, baggage transport, and bus from airport.  Those beach front homes were beautiful wonder if the Jefferson Davis home/museum is okay - what gorgeous grounds.

Hi Sheryl,

The Miss. gulf coast was the most beautiful place before the hurrican. The only home left that they are trying to preserve is Jefferson Davis's Home. It was severely damaged. The wrap around porch and roof were torn off. The furnishings were scattered all over the property. They have been raising money to rebuild it. The last time I went down there it was so depressing I couldn't wait to get back home. Insurance is a big problem for homeowners to rebuild. State Farm has pulled out of the state and no other company will insure them. Right now the few that are rebuilding are doing it at their own risk.

If you like to go to the Casinos they have all rebuilt and going strong. Hard Rock is scheduled to reopen soon. The week that it was originally to open was the week before the hurrican hit. It was a total  loss. They have been rebuilding on it for over a year now.

dang, I'd jump that in a heartbeat! Lord knows I need some time away in sun and fun (sans hurricanes!  I did Hurricane Dennis in Pensacola just over a year ago!)

Whoever takes it Batty... I hope they have a great time... and VERY sweet of your mom!

They took my grandma who's 86 for a little vacation and drove her around to see the sights.  She told my mom she couldn't believe the part of town they took her to.  My mom kindly pointed out there was nothing wrong with the part of town it was katrinas wrath they were seeing.  How sad. The first thing I remember after getting into my regular room after my surgery was turning on the tv and seeing the big red ball announcing katrina was coming.  l
