Title: I'm back!
Post by: Joef on March 26, 2007, 11:25:53 am
I'm back from my checkup/MRI at House Ear Clinic ...

the results are in .. my MRI was free of any AN  ;D and I do have a brain !  8)  ;D

He (Dr. Brachmann) was dead set against the 12/7 graft .. said my nerve was intact and progressing ... I wont come back 100%, but give it 3 years ... (ugggg) ...electric stimulation or exercises wont help ... just time.  He did strongly recommend a gold eye weight .. so any good doctors for this in the NYC,CT or Boston area? and the next MRI in 4 years...

Hi Joe:   YEEEAAHHH!!!!!   Wonderful news on the facial nerve coming back.
So, YOUR doc said give the nerve 3 years, my neurologist said up to 2 years,
hhmmmmmm.... are these guys ever in agreement...  I geuss Dr. Brachmann has seen
            improvement thru 3 years....
My docs also said no electric stimulation/exercises UNTIL movement comes back
(so, they agree on that !).
The eye weight really helps with appearance & protecting the cornea (but I'm sure you
know that already..).   The surgery isn't a big deal;   as you know, my gold weight had to
be removed, now I'm waiting for the lid to heal & the doc will see how I do once he puts in
            the platinum weight.
Again, Joe,  glad to hear the GREAT NEWS!!!  All the best, Nancy

Hi Joe, great news on your recovery. Gold weight implant is very simple. I was somewhat awake for the surgery and didn't feel a thing. Took about 30 minutes for the whole procedure. I used my opthalmologist and he had no problem doing the surgery. He is recommending me see another surgeon to correct my double vision. That type of surgery is a bit more complicated.

Joe,

Congrats on your clean MRI! I was hoping that he told you of some exercises that would help! I also asked Dr. Brackmann about exercises and he told me to wait till I seen movement first. I know it's still too early but I haven't had any movements yet!

While I was in LA, Dr. Roberts put my weight in. I was awake for the entire surgery. The best part is I rarely use eye drops anymore. I still have to use the clear patch to work outside but that OK.

Good Luck on your continued recovery,
Ellis
