Can anyone recommend a type/brand of earplug other than the foam kind. I've been using one on the AN side, when I know I'm going to be around loud music/noise (theater, church, concerts, etc). Anyway, the foam ones just won't stay in for any length of time.

The orange ones with a small plastic pusher insert are my favorites. These are dense, easy to get all the way in the canal, and don't hurt.
My audiologist recommends altering the cheap foam ones for emergencies. Cut the foam barrel in half with scissors longways. The half cylinders can be pinched down to a point and inserted to stay in the canal fairly well. You get two for one! ;D

Thanks. Will try that one out. I'll have to admit. It's makes me wonder what those sitting around me think at church when they see me plug my ear. As in, what in the world is she here for if she doesn't want to listen - HA!!

I work on idustrial construction sites and have found two types that work. 1. The softest pair and then cut of the big end, then they can be put in better and will stay in place. 2. Kayakers use this stuff that looks like clear putty, it is very moldable and works very well.

I have custom molded ear plugs as I occasionally work in noise and they are far more comfortable than the squishy kind. But they are provided by my employer and I have no idea how to get them on your own.

Hi there: I bought a 'musician's plug' at the univ. of miami ENT clinic: it cost $75. It's molded to fit inside your ear.
I used it today at a co-workers retirement party - it really helped with deadening the sounds of others talking at different tables,
& I was still able to hear those sitting at my table (my hearing ear is at almost 100%, so I think if your good ear isn't so good, it may
not work as well) - I chose the one that decreased decibels by 15%, the other one I think decreased it by 30%).

I love my musician's ear plug and never leave home without it. I have a couple of different db filter sizes, 15 and 25. (25 I only use for concerts) Previously I used foam plugs, but found sound distortion to be a problem, I have not found this to be the case with the musician's ear plug.

Hi Cheryl: oh, the other one must have been 25, & not 35 like I said....thanks for clearing that up (I was close though !!).
Yeah, it worked really well today, only after a few hours it got a little annoying feeling, but easy enough to get use to !!
I think I should wear it more often....

Hi Nancyann - There might be a 35 available, my audiologist only recommended the 15 and 25 for me.
I attend alot of concerts and notice an increase in the number of the people (young and old) now wearing musician's ear plugs. I am glad to see people more aware of protecting their hearing.

I hate the foam ones as they are colored and noticeable. I recently found some clear silicone ones that worked well. They do not fit down in the canal but in the outer ear area, stay, are water proof and can be shaped to fit your ear. They work better than the foam. I found I can put them in at loud rests and still hear my table mates, buffer out the nose and they have yet to fall into my hair. Not noticeable at all.

I use some blue beeswax ear plugs...I like them, but they will be really noticeable :(...I may check out the musician's earplugs from the earlier post...
